USAID has a budget of about $40 billion. If they gave all adult citizens of the U.S. a million dollars each the would still have $39,737, 000,000 for their projects. Some sources say something like $ 22.58 billion was dispersed. Either way I think that would be a great way to boost the economy. U.S A. aid. Maybe we could give our veterans an extra million for their service

Congress funds the USAID - to do their charter. Executive branch executes the charter by managing USAID. Was the charter being executed on efficiently? No, so the executive branch gets to manage it better. What's all the fuss? Oh, USAID was converted to something different and the previous management was ok with that. This one is not. The current direction is what the electorate voted for. Case closed.

I think one of the prime examples, and probably a model for current usaid methodology was the success of the End Apartheid movement of the mid 80's. A just cause for sure, but it was a fringe movement that began a couple decades earlier. It never got media coverage and the US was a partner and weapon supplier to the SA govt, so no critique or mention of the apartheid structures in SA was up for discussion in DC, until... 1980's US/SA relations cool, and SA begins to normalize relations w/Russia and suddenly a well funded and highly promoted /marketed global End Apartheid movement appears out of nowhere. Scene of protests in Soweto and Cape Town permeates media daily(although same kinds of protests occured for decades). Mandela had been in jail for more than 20 yrs before most in the US ever heard his name. The SA govt deserved it's collapse, but it was a US govt/intel regime change op and not some organic global social movement.

I believe embassies in various countries fund grants of $10,000 occasionally to the winner of a female entrepreneur and the money comes from USAID. This is very minimal help to these developing countries compared to other countries efforts and money to supply and maintain things like clean water or internal to small farming communities in various regions. The US Diplomacy and Embassies do not help citizens enough so what help do you expect for the countries they are in?
