Wow! I recently had a lumpectomy to remove 2 suspicions. My doctor was shocked to discover in the same breast, atypical ductal hyperplasia in one area and DCIS in another. Getting a double mastectomy without reconstruction so I can heal faster and get on with my life. Recently discovered breast cancer runs in my family.

I was diagnosed with this and now my surgeon recommends surgery to remove the cells but I don’t understand why? It’s not cancer, why can’t it just be watched?
@lsls-lb7qv
@lsls-lb7qv Жыл бұрын
Because during a surgery a doctor will remove the entire area for another biopsy. During first biopsy only a small amount removed for testing.

Dr Spencer.had a large core biopsy..I have been dx: Focal Atypical Ductal Hyperplasia I guess Nurse of Surgeon will be scheduling me for surgery. Scared that it can progress fast to the next stage of DCIS or Invasive cancer

Great video! Question - what happens after you are finished with Tamoxifen? Does your risk go down and then you are "risk free"?

I have DUCT ECTASIA WITH STROMAL FIBROSIS AND FOCAL MILD INTRADUCTAL HYPERPLASIA what that mean iam in 21 years
@aprilspencerm.d.1505
@aprilspencerm.d.1505 2 жыл бұрын
It means some of the ducts in your breast are wider (ectasia) than others, there does not appear to be a mass inside that’s been reported so this is not problematic. Stromatolites fibrosis means the supporting tissue (stroma)in your breast has some firmness (fibrosis) or increased density. This is not abnormal for a 21 year old. This density tends to decrease with age and the stroma is replaced by fat (that’s when we call our plastic surgery friends for a breast lift). The intraductal ( inside of the ducts) has some hyper (rapid)-plasia (means cell growth). It doesn’t appear that they reported any Atypical ductal hyperplasia here do you do not appear to be at increased risk. Although you’re young make sure you follow up with your doctor that ordered the biopsy for a yearly clinical breast exam, then yearly mammograms starting at age 40. Was this helpful?

I was just diagnosed with hyperplasia. I breastfed for many years which is frustrating because it's supposed to lower your risk. Anyway, I've also had a former heart attack and stent over a decade ago. Still have my ovaries, too. The side effects of tamoxifen are lousy and I don't do well with many drugs. Suggestions for tx?

Wonderful question. Physical activity is my recommendation. I know what you are experiencing may be frustrated because you have to weigh the risks vs the benefits of Tamoxifen or any drug. Data shows that exercising 30-45 minutes 3 x per week can reduce the risk of breast cancer by 20-40%. That’s almost just as good as or better than the Rx

You can get close observation defined as a clinical breast exam and repeat imaging every 6 months or removal. Have your doctor assess your risk to see which is right for you. If you’re worried about it now, seek a 2nd opinion right away for removal

Make sure you either commit to close follow up, ie a clinical breast exam and repeat imaging via a Diagnostic MGM and breast Ultrasound in 6 months. You may want to strongly consider removal. Consult with your doctor to assess the best approach for you based on your imaging, exam, personal and family history. Bottom line is be your own advocate and be proactive!

I know this diagnosis may seem overwhelming but it is very manageable. Make sure you are scheduled to have a lumpectomy and referral to a medical oncologist for risk reduction strategies and high-risk surveillance.
