Watch Atypus affinis - The Purse Web Spider in this heathland habitat in northern Germany . Atypus spp. are the only Orthognata in northern Europe and because of their secret lifestyle extremely hard to find.

One of the best videso Ive seen on this group of amazing animals. I am absolutely obsessed and have a few as pets. Insanely underrated in the hobby.

I found some spiderlings dispersing in spring , so I knew there must be burrows as well . So after half and hour of intense searching I spotted a few but only at one spot and nowhere else around

To find these, it's good to look in areas that get a decent amount of sun. Good places to see them will be under rocks or on the side of vertical surfaces, where they will hang the aboveground portion onto some slightly higher vertical bit of earth, rock or vegetation. Over time, the threads that keep the "purse/sock" hanging will break and it will just lie around, usually covered in dirt. It can be distinguished by itself, but it's even easier to spot if there happen to be any recently ripped spots, through which the spider got it's prey, as even after repairing, until new dirt gathers on top of it, it will just look like a blank white spot of silk. Edit: Can also be found in North America, love your work by the way, you are an incredible help for the spider fans on KZbin, as many "learn" from people like Exotics Lair, which is why we need more people like you instead.
