@em_mlynarek, @e.llesig, @abitross, @chef_amie, @samlawson37, @naty_nat_nat, @alice.markey, @ahia.kaeser & @orlamarie_ - How did you find your Au Pair job? - I used greataupair.com but I know a few people who used aupairworld.com - How did you feel about safety? - It’s always a little nerve racking but I skyped with my family a few times and met the kids, saw my room etc. I also had a friend of a friend in Spain I could go to as a plan B. @im_alina_maria - When do you get to explore if you’re working during the day? - This totally depends on your family! The kids in my family had class all day so I could go into the city if I was back by the time they got home! @accordtohoyle - Do you need to speak another language? - NO often they prefer that you don’t because they want you to teach their kids YOUR language. @mscourt19 - Would love to help out with this video! - PLEASE comment on the video comments and answer any questions people have! @backyardbeerguy - No questions about au pairing but I just wanted to say “hey Seth!” too! Hey Seth! - bahahaha @samlawson37 - What qualifications do you need to have? - Every family is different! Some you need no experience, but for you some experience with kids (so you know you like working with kids) would be great! @naty_nat_nat - How can you do it without having to go through an agency and pay fees? - greataupair.com didn’t have any fees but the fees are sometimes there for your safety so it’s up to you! @abi_evans_2001 - ooo yay I am hoping to au pair next year and I was wondering how you get paired up with families! - I used greataupair.com but I know a few people who used aupairworld.com you search which countries you want and how long you want the stay to be and they pop up! @adam9young - Can guys do it? Is that frowned upon? @matthewjohnson1934 is doing it now and said it’s been pretty easy to find a family! @fernando_degadog - Can you be a male Au Pair? - @matthewjohnson1934 is doing it now and said it’s been pretty easy to find a family! @chef_amie - What age were you as an Au Pair? - I was 22 @aspatina & @chef_amie - Is the pay good? Can you also set some money aside? - Every family is different but I only got paid $400 Euro a month, but while living there I had no expenses and it was perfect for me. But I couldn't put any money aside. @lost.boyphotography - What even is an Au Pair? - An international nanny! @laurenclarke2080 - Hi! I’m in my last year of HS and think being an Au Pair is how I want to travel: over all would you recommend it? - Did you find it worthwhile? - YES - Agency or online? - I used a website greataupair.com but I know a few people who used aupairworld.com - Where are the best places to Au Pair? - Depends what you want, if you’re English speaking and language intimidates you choose an English speaking country. If you want to immerse yourself in another language choose a country that speaks another language! @lana.stockwell - What is the process to become one? - Once you connect with a family you decide if it's a fit - How did you find your Au Pair job and how did you feel about safety? Is it hard to find a family? - No it’s hard to choose one! @Katieneedsaninsta - Is there any expectations to be with the family for a long time? Does a short placement confuse the kids? - Nope, every family is different! @theresagonet - I used to be an Au Pair!! - Of course you were! Hop in the comments and share your experience!!

I am Currently an Au Pair in Switzerland, been here for over a year. Found my family on aupairworld.com, I really recommend the site because they have ranked the legal requirements for every country which helps a lot. Make sure you're not underpaid(check the lowest they're allowed to pay you) also look on how many hours you are allowed to work each week according to the state. For example; in switzerland you're not allowed to work more then 30h per week and you have to have at least one full day off. The lowest payment per month is 700chf. Working more then 30h makes you legally a nanny and your payment should be at least 2k chf each month. Make sure you have a good feeling with the family and no questions asked are stupid when finding a family.

Hey! I was an Au pair in Germany and did find my family on aupairworld.com. Sadly I had some negative experiences but the overall experience is great. Some tips I wanna give is. BE assertive without being rude. Because yes you are going in their home to essentially do a job. but don’t let someone take advantage of that. If you feel something is off TALK TO THEM. SPEAK UP. Because nothing gets solved with a quiet mouth and sadly at the time I did not have that. That is a big one. Because for my first, 3 months I had not one day off even when they were home doing nothing I had to care for the kids and house completely while they went out and partied and sat in bed all day. and they were not supposed to do that. Aupairworld list the legal aspects of this job in every country so you know what you are supposed to do and what the family is supposed to do regarding pay and hours. Research. Ask questions. Speak up. That’s all I have to say.

Just adding on more info and my experience~ I decided to be an Au Pair in order to travel Europe as cheaply as possible! I did not know any of the language before moving here, but your host family can help get you into language classes and of course can practice with you at home! Be picky when choosing a family, specially if you are deciding on a year contract! You have to be comfortable working for them and living with them so as Shayla says, Please have ALL the awkward conversations before moving! Don't be afraid to ask questions and establish expectations! Try all the food, go to festivals, and try to understand and appreciate their culture :)

Thats so funny you say that about Peanut Butter..My Italian girls fell in love with it so much I had to hide my PB from them 😂😂 Being an Au Pair in Italy and living with a host family was one of the best most special experiences of my life!!! My family had me helping the girls learn English, also. It really is the best way to get immersed in the culture, anddd eat all of the homemade amazing food. If you don’t gain weight while living in Spain or Italy you aren’t doing it right! I actually just got back from visiting my Italian family 3 years later and stayed with them for two weeks. We are still very close and I have family in Florence forever now. It was so fun catching up and reminiscing on being an Au Pair! -Chelsea from Sea to Cea

Yes yes yes! Speak up. I did not to do this for my first au pair job and to say the least I left more relieved to go home then to have stayed. If I would’ve sat them down and had the conversation of “ I’m not a maid or a slave and I need days off and to be treated respectfully” then maybe things would’ve changed and I would’ve had MORE fun. Not to take away from the experience but that kinda put this overcast over my trip

Thank you for sharing and also the comments from others are really helping me. I just signed up to be an au pair on the au pair site. I started viewing some of the profile and got scared. I quickly came off. Some of them seems like they are looking for a maid not an au pair. Clean, cook, help with home work, pick up from school, drop off to school and the list goes on. It does not seem like you would have any time for your self, to even study the language or even the the location you are at.
@acaya6 жыл бұрын
I'm from Spain and I was an Au pair in Germany :) It was sooooooooo so so great, but I truly think you should have at least a basic knowledge of the language. Before I went to that family, they had another girl that spoke no German at all and they had to ask her to leave because the kids really didn't stand not being able to comunicate with her (she could not understand why they were crying, what did they want to play, etc. Little stuff, but important for the kids). I mean, your kids went to a British school and probably at home the parents were constantly introducing them to films, TV, etc. in English. But mine were normal German kiddos that had never heard a word in English, so... they really needed someone that would be able to communicate with them in German.

I have a extensive amount of experience caring for children: babysitting, preschool teacher and for the past 7 years i have been a nanny. I love to travel so naturally becoming an au pair sounds like a dream however, I am hearing some things about how you can only get a work visa if you are 30. Is there a way around this work visa or simply another option for older people?

Have money saved up, you always want your flight home paid for or enough to be able to buy one whenever. It was only an extra $100/ week and everything I NEEDED was taken care of but it was nice to have the extra money!

It depends on what else is offered, what you’re looking for in the experience and what your jobs are :) some countries have minimums so google that too. AUPAIRWORLD.com has a ton of great information!

Do people go to some college or do some courses there if they want to along with being an au pair ?
@Geanieinabottle5 жыл бұрын
There is no course at college to being an Au Pair, I did it via a travel agency which directed me to Au PairCare! Its a really simple and trusting program! You can find me on my youtube channel "EVERYTHING AU PAIR", ask as many questions as you'd like and also tell me on how your experience is going so far!

Hi there! I am an au pair in Chicago. I personally don't think there'd be any disadvantages because remember, some families only have kids that are boys and are looking for an "older brother" figure. Honestly, just take the chance! What do you have to loose? This experience will teach you so much! You can find me on my youtube channel "EVERYTHING AU PAIR", ask as many questions as you'd like!

I looked into being an au pair, still kind of looking. I took ASL in school so it limits some options for me. Any suggestions on learning a new language? What programs are the best ect?
@aboutLeonie6 жыл бұрын
you don't have to learn a new language. I was an au pair in new zealand and now I am an au pair in australia and it's been great! (I am german so I kind of had to learn the language :D ) There are so many families in europe who wants their children to speak english and the parents mostly speak english, too. But there are also options where you could do a course and work as an au pair at the same time!

I was just wondering, was it hard to find families that were willing to hire you? I would love to be an Au Pair in Germany because that is where I would like to go to college next school year. I will only be turning 18 this summer though and so I'm worried that that would be a factor that would make it hard for me to get hired, since I'm so young and possibly planning on studying at the same time.. I will still apply and see if it works out but I just figured I'd ask for your opinion as well. :)
@aboutLeonie6 жыл бұрын
It's not unusual to be a young au pair as most of the au pairs are 18 or 19 y/o. Also there are many au pairs who are studying at the same time. Just give it a try and I bet you will find a family :)

You don't need to be fluent at all! Sometimes they prefer you aren't so that you only speak your native language to their kids!! I'm so happy you love the videos, that is so great to hear!
