ik im a couple of years late but would you suggest a host family in china or living alone?

Hello, it depends on the kind of experience you want. Living with a host family can be helpful to help your learn the culture and customs more naturally and give you more opportunity to learn Mandarin. It also can be less challenging in that you don't have to figure out how to pay bills or a find your own accommodation and things like that. Living alone can also be great if you prefer to be more independent and want to have more personal space. With a host family you have to work with their schedule and live by their rules. So it depends on your preference.

I'd suggest something your home country is known for. A particular sweet or something with your country's name on it like a sweater or Starbucks cup.

@@colincha1674 Yes! At least for the host parents, grandparents (who you may also be living with) and of course for the child/children you will be caring for. :)

Watching these videos, related to being an au pair, make it more real. I'll be traveling to China next year, and I'm nervous because this will be my first time traveling abroad, and it is to the other side of the globe.

Oh I understand that feeling for me it was the first time traveling abroad and the other side of the world! 😬 If have any advice to offer I’d say be open minded but stay true to yourself. It’s not always easy but it’s mostly wonderful! In the midst of all the change don’t forget to slow down and look around and just take it all in. 😊

@@ham8043 I'll take that advice for sure. The real thing when dealing with this is the culture, the distance between your family and you, and the experience itself, because you don't know the language and barely anything related to the country. However, I'm still excited to take this, and the reasons behind it are the reasons why I'm partly afraid of. Thank you so much for answering! Have a good life.
