Aubrey, you are the very best wallpapering teacher on KZbin. I will follow your techniques in my business exactly as you have taught me. Your ways are exactly as I remember my father practising wallpaper hanging back in the 60's. Thank you from Somerset Handyman.

Single Mum, so very grateful 👍! 2 sockets to cut around from 1 peice of paper (redecorating porch - water damage - only 3 drops required 🥴), but NOW I have confidence - on it 🤗. TY!

Very good video Aubrey. The only thing I’d mention is that by using the large plastic spreader (to push the wallpaper behind the socket) there’s a small risk of damaging the wallpaper. To prevent this I just use the hanging brush.

My only question is, if you’re going to loosen the switch plate to tuck the paper in anyway, why don’t you just take the switch plate all the way off and cut the square in around the working bits and put the switch plate back on?

Hi Rory, this is usual practice by decorators when papering around switches. It is safer not to disconnect the wiring and the regulations may mean that you need to be a qualified electrician to do this. Regards Aubrey.

Also tucking in to much paper behind a socket or plug can be a major fire hazard

Well this isn’t from my mouth, my good friend who’s a fireman and has been for 30 plus years says that this is one of the most common cause of fire after carelessness etc, just passing on what he said that is why like you I won’t put too much paper behind the light switch/ socket, just a few millimetres, I’ve seen jobs with inches in there .

Doesn’t matter if you use a plastic caulker you are touching a switch that has wet paste on it with your hands. The only way you should be putting paper behind sockets and switches is if the power is off at the consumer unit and you have tested to make sure there is no power to the outlets. Paste conducts electricity. Also on certain sites you would be put off the site for health and safety reasons as you are not qualified to touch electrical fittings .

Everything you have done is correct but it is a fire hazard to put paper behind any socket so your video is wrong
@Andeecee
@Andeecee 3 жыл бұрын
No it’s not wrong. The paper only goes 5mm behind the socket so there’s no way it would come into contact with the electric wires.

Best not to mess with the electrics in my experience. e.g Sometimes there can be a lot of wires going into the socket - they don’t always re connect that easy. Aubrey’s method is the one most pro’s use.
