Just checking in from the Isle of Wight Aubrey to thank you kindly for your patient, clear & informed videos. With your help I found the confidence and motivation to finally give the decorating of my own room a good go. From stripping down my previous wallpaper, cleaning and prepping my walls, through painting the ceiling, skirting & door frames - I was able to take time to work in a structured and measured way thanks to your tuition. All I have to face now is my new Paste the wall vinyl wallpaper; and although you don’t have a specific video for this, feel through the advice and tips you’ve shared in other videos, I’m in a good stead to tackle this also… My very grateful thanks to you, here’s hoping you are able to enjoy a wonderful weekend ahead. Well thank you Aubrey for showing how Brit paperhangers do it. I've been a professional paperhanger in USA for 40 years. I've never not wrapped an outside corner. There's tricks if the wall is twisty. After wrapping we plumb next sheet and double cut if needed. I know you can't teach an old dog new tricks but I thought I'd throw it out there.
@iangrayson3817 Жыл бұрын
there is some benefit in wrapping and over cutting. It has the benefit of not leaving the edge of the wallpaper exposed to persons or animals rubbing round the edge and lifting the paper... we see that quite a lot. Particularly prevalent with the thicker papers.

Hi Aubrey, Great vid, I was taught to hang paper this way many years ago (bout 35-40) looks like we have the same tools as well, I will say though that I was taught to use the brush to sweep the paper round the corner! I got up to 2nd year City and Guilds but couldn't do my third year as the job I had @ the time was drywall partitioning and my boss wouldn't let me have time to finish. Only did decorating for a few years but it was good to see the finished rooms! TFS, GB :)

@@AubreysAbsoluteDecorating Regarding saving our 40 year marriage, can you suggest how we deal with removing a little foreign object under the paper on the finished wall? It's just a tiny little thing under the paper but it looks much bigger now the paper is over it, it draws the eye I'm afraid. It's distressed rough plaster effect vinyl if that helps. We have a few scraps left over but we can't replace the whole strip.
@AubreysAbsoluteDecorating2 ай бұрын
You could try making a small incision with a craft knife (Stanley Knife) and flicking out the foreign object. Then use an artists brush to apply some PVA glue under the cut and press back down. Wipe away any excess glue with a damp cloth. If you can, try to make the cut along the edge of a pattern so it is less obvious. This has worked for me before. Hope you get it sorted soon.

I've done similar, but cut through both overlapped pieces and removed the waste, ending up with no overlap. Is that also a recognised technique, or is it frowned upon?
@AubreysAbsoluteDecorating Жыл бұрын
Yes it is ok to do this. I often do this myself especially when there is not a match on the pattern as you do tend to loose it a bit of the pattern due to the larger overlap required for the splice.

Great video. Could I ask you if you would do the same with type II vinyl 20oz. I have to do this job where I have to join two different colour w vinyl on the corner. So one wall has the vinyl and when I turned around the corner the other wall, still vinyl but different color. 20 oz is pretty thick. Can I still do this method?

I would suggest overlapping it and splicing it to make your own joint slightly back from the corner. This is because being a thick paper it may stand proud on the corner.
