My iPad was on silent so I couldn’t hear you, but I KNEW you were English. Nice video. Nowadays, here in the U.S. we’re often paint washing our solid wood furniture.

do you not use paste on walls as well as paper
@AubreysAbsoluteDecorating4 күн бұрын
The paper shown in this video was the type where you need to paste the wallpaper. If the instructions say to paste the wall then I would follow those instructions. It may be necessary to first apply a thin paste solution to porous wall surfaces to provide a surface of even porosity. This is called sizing the walls.

Hi Aubrey, great video! I am fighting a battle with peeling paint in 2 rooms. I've stripped most back to bare plaster but in areas the paint is adhered so I can't full remove it. I was planning to seal/bind the edges with Zinsser Peel Stop, maybe go over all of the remaining paint with it. But I have a 5l bottle of PVA from when I patch repaired the blown plaster. Your video has me wondering if I can use this instead. What would you recommend? Many thanks, Kerrie
@AubreysAbsoluteDecorating4 күн бұрын
You should be fine using PVA as instructed in the video. The ceiling shown in the video still looks great now and the video was produced more than 4 years ago 😊 Hope all goes well for you Kerrie.

A proper decorator, not someone who sprays the paint on and thinks their a decorator.

Thank you for the great video. It appears that if you overlap the corner as shown, on a pattern without any solid color fields the design would not match up. How do you account for that?

Just came to THANK YOU for your video and excellent explanation! We were wallpapering our bedroom last week and prior to doing it we watched this! You are very talented teacher, we managed to do such a tidy job thanks to your explanation! Our house is almost 100 years old and walls were very uneven! I am happy we came across YOUR video amongst thousands of others on wallpapering on youtube!🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺

Why did you not use a small gloss 4inch roller
@motormouthalmighty24 күн бұрын
did it on wednesday.made a bit of a pig's ear of it.the wallpaper is slanting quite clearly.i even left an uneven gap between two strips so now ,the end piece is on top of a narrow strip because I cut a perfectly good drop in two,to avoid leaving a two inch drop at the end of the wall.luckily it's a beautiful patterned wallpaper and the house was in very poor condition anyway.not good protocol!I want locking up and taken before a tribunal in the Hague!shocker!

Very well explained and like you said, the overlap is hardly visible on very thin papers. However, I do prefer to splice (double cut) my wallpapers and having them butted up nicely instead of having a visible overlap.

Glad you didn't skirt over the final bit where the paper needs pulling to the skirting. Hadn't thought about using a roller behind the rad. There is always an easier way to do things. Well explained video.

Very good indeed. My only question, is this:- With those lovely flat walls, why would anyone want them papered and not given a nice coat of emulsion instead?

Hi Aubrey, What paint would you recommend for ceiling and walls? Going to be white on everything as it’s a rental, preferably the same on ceiling and wall or if you suggest something else I’d appreciate the advice :) thanks
@AubreysAbsoluteDecorating29 күн бұрын
White vinyl matt emulsion should do the trick. Best to buy it in 10L tubs. You can buy cheaper white paint but it will not be so durable.
@mflong12329 күн бұрын
There is no need to cut the paper in two because the usual way is to take the paper straight around the exterior corner with a cut at the top and bottom. . Then trim to the ceiling and skirting. 45 years experience!

Instead of using a putty knife to mark the paper ,I just fold the paper over and crease it , then fold it back and cut it down the crease, whatever ways easier,

No harm to you but I am a professional decorator of 36 years experience. I have never in my life and I would never recommend ever painting a ceiling with a paint containing vinyl ! This is DIY only
