Thank you for an excellent review. Although both of you described the product with finesse, I feel that Horst Luening captured the essence, the subtlety, the differences with the 10 year old in a more complete manner. He was also able to describe both the original almost watery taste that metamorphosed into the sharpness of the Bourbon casks, the sweetness and bitterness after taste of the Sherry casks. 12 year is a great buy in my area at the age statement. american oak is too close in price for what it is, not worth it. Totally agree with the well balanced nature...my go to for a regular drink. Has enough complexity, but just a really nice relaxing drink.

Auchentoshan is an okay distillery but considering the price of their products it makes up for it.

Surprised no mention of cedar, pine cinnamon, cardamom, Christmas spice, nutmeg. I get a lot of that with Auchetoshans entire lineup - and find this 12 to be the sweet spot - with the three wood a little to oaky bittery to me

Out of topic question: What should i pick, Glendronach 12 or Glenfiddich 12?

Definitely the Glendro. I don't dislike Glenfiddich, but there is something better for every age/price/style that they produce. Just my opinion of course.
