That life Jacket the skipper is wearing looks like a shirt

Well done mate, good throttle control and sensible decisions.

I would have sat in a safe spot just before the bar and assessed the waves and watch set patterns.. definitely new how to navigate the bar was a great job.. hop you fullas had a secondary propulsion.. lol and bro where’s the life jacket
@markuswilmes36948 ай бұрын
The skipper did a good job considering he kept picking the shallow area to go through

Thanks for posting the video. Ive been through once 4 hrs before high tide & we had a few troffs & waves stand up. Fishing was fantastic. Great skippering, though.

I never really appreciated the hazard crossing the bar is till now. It must be unbelievable in a strong westerly . Good skills .
@Insert.anger506 ай бұрын
If the weather isnt totally perfect you dont even bother trying to cross itll be certain death, angry 20 foot leaping white cap waves that crash into each other, leaping up from the bottom and waves that drop away underneath you

I was sitting on my couch watching this and getting motion sickness. Better to stay home I think.

Calm day. If a skipper isn’t prepared to wear a life jacket they’ve got no idea what they’re doing. Wouldn’t trust this person to take me out on a glassy day

He should cop an instant fine. Sick of these clowns not wearing jackets. How hard is it!!

Out going tide through the shallow parts , no wonder waves were standing up . Skipper did a good job though , this time.....
@Insert.anger506 ай бұрын
It was incoming tide, its a totally different scene when the tides going out, theres rows of 12 foot high stationery waves rolling in between the 2 channels, when the tides coming in the waves leap up into you
@Insert.anger509 ай бұрын
Awesome, hell yeh the Manukau bar can be nasty af
@courierdude72505 ай бұрын
LOL. That's the Cook Straight just about every day. Just take it calmly and count the wave sets.

Easy peasy bar crossing. Try The Mokau bar, and The Waikato river bar. Mokau river in a 8m boat, first wave you look down on, Second wave you at at , 3rd wave went over the roof. That was on a good day. Waikato river was like a washing machine in full wash cycle. Left hand prints in grab handles that trip.

How’s the life jackets working out ?
@mitseraffej58128 ай бұрын
There is an ocean rescue adage that 50% of the population wouldn’t survive a 50 metre swim in the open ocean. I’ve been crossing this stretch of water for many years and each life jacket has a locator beacon attached, and my jacket a VHF radio, an LED flare and sea dye marker. No fun to be had if you don’t want to take a few risks bit on saying that you may as well give yourself a reasonable chance of survival if things go bad.

Didnt realise the bars so long
@q.e.d.91126 ай бұрын
You chose to go out where the waves were breaking. You could have had a less lumpy ride if you’d chosen your way more carefully.
@toranarama14 ай бұрын
If there's breakers you are either out on the wrong day , wrong tide or wrong course.

Why not go down to the fish market, have a pint at a real bar on the way, check out the lovely ladies, save this mental illness for another day?

Am I missing the editing or is this bar 10 miles long?
@littlebitofeverything83078 ай бұрын
Probably going against the tide. Water goes pretty fast through here so can be tough for some boats depending on ya engine size. It is also a pretty long stretch too.
@cmmc5028 ай бұрын
this is quite a long bar crossing it can take up 20 min to cross sometimes depending on conditions at the washing machine and in the south channel itself the overall crossing is about 6km from start to finish
