Lots of good buys here including the 1958 DelRay which sold for $6500.00. For comparison sake I looked back at your year old video of a Chevrolet dealers vintage auction, with all their cars being in mint condition. One of those cars was a 58 DelRay which sold for $11500.00. Both DelRays appear to be in equally as good shape,
@mr.goodpliers6988

The one here was significantly worse. It had rust in the lower quarters, and tire well, plus the front fender was scraped. The one at Hill City was by far the better car
@ernielaw

@@mr.goodpliers6988 Didn't realize that. Maybe the one at the dealership was worth the extra $5000.00. This one was still in better shape than most and had only 53000 miles.

The DelRay was the deal of the day. Congrats on the 49 too, can’t keep ‘em all. I’m sure you’ll find another one. Most trucks up until maybe 55 had the Choke and Throttle cables to the carbs too.

Excellent video. I hope all of those cars got new owners that will drive them. If the man that was explaining the throttle control to you was the owner, I believe he did keep them in running condition. After some maintenance, many of them would have been great spare, short-trip cars.

My family and I saw this in the 1060s at farm auctions - Auctions being stuffed with old cars, trucks, farm equipment, and other merchandise from various sources to make the farm auctions look plump and ripe for the picking... however, it was a ruse. We would see the same things time and again at other auctions, and the same cars too. It was then we realized that the auctions were a gimmick and a con. I have a hunch that online bids are nothing more than a way to fatten up the price when auction buyers aren't bidding the kinds of prices the auctioneer wants to see. After all, he gets a commission! They are still playing this game with people up to this day.

They certainly sold cheap based on Mecum auctions but then I never did believe the Mecum and the others were legit. The Del Ray was exceptional. Very rare to see such a budget old 4 door sedan car in that condition. Probably one of the nicest almost all orginal ones on the planet. Sorry you had to sell the 49 Chevy.😢

Reminded me of the best parting shot at an estate auction 30 years ago from Randy Smith ( AAA R@J a legend in his time). After an unbelievable 20 hrs of auctioning , the wrap up was at 3am, he takes off his cowboy hat ( of course) and declares " Now get this junk outta here"

Sorry you couldn't keep the 49 Chevy as it seemed like a nice one. My Uncle had an early 50s Dodge panel van that he used in his refrigeration business. I rode with him once for us to cut two Christmas trees out in the country. His had that same throttle knob. He would get up to 50 or so on the two lane highway and pull out that throttle and I guess it was early cruise control as long as the road was flat it would maintain the approximate speed. Hope you kept the IH freezer. The old appliances are so well built and unique.

That auctioneer is taking too long on each car a few hundred more. Take the first bid on the first car and set off a bidding frenzy on the rest. I like the 58 Delray and the burgundy Buick sedan.

It has to be that way when there is online bidding. There's a lag on the internet connection, so they take a little extra time to make sure no bids are missed. Also, when the vehicles are selling under market like these did... he wants to make sure no one's sleeping on a deal

@@mr.goodpliers6988 good points, not much competitive bidding by farmers, I’m surprised if you don’t get internet bids from the Swedes or Danes. The Delray was a nice survivor example.

Why do the auction companies tape vehicle data papers to painted surfaces and then the tape cooks in the sun ? It makes no sense to me when there are windows side,/front that can be clean easier and safer from damaging paint
