Auction houses have a fake watch problem. This appears widespread. A recent example is an auction of a watch "marked Audemars Piguet, Automatic", whose movement is neither Automatic nor an Audemars Piguet. Auction houses try to disclaim responsibility, stating that they "do not guarantee the authenticity, brand, or stamping on any item". But, this is bad for the whole ecosystem.
