Working on our second auction saw a Stihl 026, will it run or did I pay too much? Thanks for watching!!

My first saw probably 30 yrs ago. Still have it today. Built a few and have 3 or 4 more with a couple pro's. Same with me, larger saws came later. 026 is where it all began. Thanks.

I am blessed to have a 026 with a muffler modification and some port cleaning. The saw is a favorite when walking the UP of Michigan, clearing any tree issues, and even falling firewood . Buckin mentioned you and I subscribed. Thanks for taking the time to make this content and sharing your knowledge.

I bought my first saw at a pawn shop! I bought it so I could refurbish it. The only cost me 99+tx I bought all my lawnmowers used and they just need a little maintenance and TLC and they start running. good video

Love my 026. Thanks for the tips on the muffler. Im definitely going to do that, and take a look at the base gasket. It would be great to get a little more umph from such a light saw. I started with an 025 and hated it. Picked up an 024 for occasional use. When i started heating with wood, i started looking for an 026, but found a very nice 036 instead for $200. Eventually, i found a used 026 in good shape for $250 usd and added it to my tool list. I have a couple of big saws now as well, but the 026 is still my favorite for limbing tree tops, and storm cleanup/disaster relief.

Good saw! The kill swich is funny because the spring normally gets preloaded by the airfiltercase. Without this filter it hooks up on the lever...

Nice one. I like 026s - good balance of weight and power for a general purpose saw. Stihl hit a kind of 'sweet spot' when they made it. The 261 wasn't as good. But if you have a 261 with blown electronics and a 260 with worn out top end, you can build the 261 crank and top end into the 260 carcass to end up with a very nice saw. I did that for a mate who blew 3 260s/261s in a year and he reckoned the hybrid saw was better and stronger than either of it's parents. Years later, it's still going.

The legendary 026. super common chassis also over here in Europe. In my eyes still a competitive saw in the 50 cc class. I have a super minty red lever one, with heated handle 🤩

Scoop X 2. It's a little grumpy but appears to only need minimal tlc to bring ot back to life. I'm sure the 268 will be a keeper as well. The 268 is one of my favorite saws. Parts are on the way to rebuild my 371xpg. Excited for that build. Will be reviewing your 372xp build for pointers, for sure. New SKF bearings, seals, throttle cable holder (metal upgrade) and gaskets, (from Ryan at Wolfcreek), piston clean up, base gasket delete (maybe), new crank cases, new clutch, carb boot, open up the muffler. Should be a great addition to my firewood saws. Your auction saws were a good scoop anyway you cut it, for sure. TC Mahalo Tinman 🤙🤙🤙

I bought my father in laws 1989 026. Bone stock saw and it had a 16” bar on it. The muffler had baffles in it and it was so choked up it actually melted the top cover. Cut the baffles out and had the carb rebuilt and then stuck an 8 pin .325 sprocket on it. Ran great just prefer 60cc and so I sold it back to him. Ran fantastically actually

That's what happened to me. Ran a couple of 026s and ms260s and the I got an 038 magnum , 266 and a 365 special. That was the end of my 026 days.

I have built many of these, this one looks to be a very early red lever model. I use the case splitter to split them no problems, I remove the base gasket, cut out that section in the muffler (vs just drilling holes) and retune the carb and they run pretty good. My first one I ever built I got 210psi compression out of it when I was done building it. I have one now that is an 026 pro which as I understand it was the last model 026 before they went to MS260 saws. Also it looks like you didn't refit the muffler cover back on correctly.

I love my 026, and the MS260 Pro was the first saw I bought new. I still have both. By modern standards, the power is fairly low, but they take a beating and just run despite how light they are. I hear that porting them can really wake them up, but the small carburetor is a limiting factor. I think there's a way to put an 044/440 carb on them...?
@bluelightguy16 ай бұрын
If you have an un ported stock muffler 026 get the porting and muffler mod done an put a smile on your face, wakes it right up
@Matt-4166 ай бұрын
@@bluelightguy1 Indeed. I have a modded muffler and tightened the squish (factory MS260 base gasket is very thick). Plus I cleaned up the ports, but didn't raise or lower anything. You are correct, it's a different saw now, so I could only imagine a quality woods-port.

The red lever stihls have a fully adjustable carb, and on certain 044s the cylinder has better ports. The later black lever stihls, some of the carbs stink
