great tutorial. Just want to add that to match the tempo, you can count the BPM and time stretch it or adjust the tempo under Effects. Cross-fading also helps when mixing 2 very distinct tracks.

so far as all the vids I have seen, this one is the most useful to me. I have been suffering trying to shorten a piece of music from 6 minutes to 90 secs for a skating routine. not knowing a hoot about audacity, i keep cutting and pasting breaks that sound like a broken record. now I can try this beat matching instead!

Disappointed. I wanted (and thought this video was about) to learn how to match the BPM, it's not, this is about just putting two tracks together so you can almost "glue it" together without interruption, but they don't even play together a whole phrase. It started pretty great though. Thank you for your video. I'll keep my search on how to match the bpm's on audacity.

Depending on the music, you can also use the fade-out tool on one track and fade-in on the other for special effect.

dude if your planning on mixing 2 tracks you gota get the beat to match as close as possible depending on how long they are going to be mixing and playing at the same time, most mixes would atleast match songs for a good few seconds and if they dont totally match it will end up sounding shocking.

Hi Yoko, This process works better on some songs than on others. If you don't mind experimenting you could try playing the Equalization effect to boost the beats before to do your Remove Vocals. Thanks, I will do. I'll research what I can about Audacity. I don't like the way fade in and outs are created in audacity but if you know of any other programmes where tempo change can be done relatively straight forwardly, I'd appreciate it. I am looking for something allowing cut (erasing bits) away of tracks just like Gband/Audacity with an easy control of altering the tempo. Fade in and out like Gband or Toast is fine. I find the way one changes tempo in garageband much too big a job, it takes forever to do a few tracks. Currently exploring Cubase. I find that Ableton is a bit of an operation also. Vinyl is much more straight forward and completely controllable. But we have come this far for making mixtapes and saving projects, its got to be feasible. Kind regards Nik

Another name for matching beats is synchronization, which the presenter overlooked. Audacity is a super audio editor with great logic, but it does not sync tracks well. The excellent Time-stretch tool can do the job but with great labor. Hopefully in the future, quantization will be added. Until then, we use Albleton or amazing Melodyne.

Hey Andrew, what if I have the same song recorded at different tempos. One slow version and one faster version. They are exactly the same words and chord changes but at a different speed. How can I line them up. One song has better vocals and the other has the addition of a mandolin. I want to join the two. I believe it will raise the frequency on one but I think they are close enough where it will actually make it sound even better. Any suggestions about matching the tempo's?

Sorry if you have a video on this, but quick question: I've tried turning up the volume on a guitar track I've recorded, and I get a lot of fuzz/static surrounding it. Any idea how to get rid of that?
@deadeyedfae10 жыл бұрын
The way i get rid of it is by isolating the static in noise removal and then allying it to the track, its a bit of a long winded method, especially as you have to record X amount of minuets of nothingness to isolate it.

Andrew, in Audacity, my MP3 song has uneven tempo. My daughter recorded herself playing it on a keyboard. Slows up a bit, speeds up a bit? I added a percussion track with perfectly even tempo. BPM are accurate between the two tracks. Roughly 152 BPM . Is there a way to even out the song's tempo to match the percussion track? To make the song even at 152 BPM throughout its playing time? Thanks for any help!
@SynthApprentice7 жыл бұрын
Captain Bob yes, it's theoretically possible, but it's a huge pain. Your best option is to start with the percussion track, and then use that to keep the keyboard track on tempo. If re-recording the keyboard isn't an option, you're going to have to go in and manually slow down the fast sections and speed up the slow sections. Like I said, it's possible, but "fix it in the mix" is rarely the right solution.
