This guy's understanding of music, keys and modality had my face so firmly embedded in my palm that when I wave goodbye people compliment the self portrait I'm holding. Seriously though... anyone struggling to figure out which key works best for their voice... Research the key of the song you're singing (if you don't know) and put it to that key. For greater success with adjusting your voice to not sound slightly offkey all the time. Choose Chromatic and make sure all the keys on the piano are highlighted on. A Higher correction amount and Speed will make you sound more robotic, a lower one more natural (but potentially at the expense of better tuning).

When you download the 64 bit version of the plugin it WILL NOT work. The solution to this is to follow these steps: 1. Download the 32 bit version of gsnap. 2. Extract the folder to your desktop 3. Copy the file and paste it into your plugins folder. 4. Open the program. 5. Enable the plugin 6. It will be called 'gsnap' located to the bottom of your screen without scrolling. Hope this helps :)

The scale option is pretty much the key the song's in, what you would want to do is find the key (scale) that the version of the song you have is in, and then select that scale in the option tab, this causes the auto tune keep your voice with in key, this is my understanding of it anyway as a musician. Hope this helps! ;)

If you did everything right and then went to Enable it and it gave you an error that says "Gsnap.dll failed to Register" its because audacity is only 32 bit for windows and 64 bit is only for Linux so even though youre used to downloading the 64 bit version of things, this time you download the 32 bit version of Gsnap, do what he says to do and then everything will work perfectly. Youre welcome.

For anyone that is encountering an issue with G-Snap not being there, or not being able to enable the GSnap plug in. Make sure you are using the most recent version of both GSnap and Audacity, as well as making sure that the GSnap version you are using is 32bit. When GSnap provides two downloads (32bit and 64bit) it is not referring to your PC's specs but whatever program you are trying to use the plug in with, Audacity is a 32bit VST Host so you need the 32bit version.

Okay, to start off... Awesome video man, I enjoyed it, I think your singing before autotune wasnt actually all that bad, and this tutorial told me more about this GSnap program/plugin and gave me examples and explanations which I appreciate. Now for the other long thing: Okay, yeah, I guess we all figured it out here already, but the key that you set the tuning to definitely doesn't have anything to do with the type of voice you have, and is not something you mess around with to "find the right one for you". It's about the key that the SONG is in, and what notes are in the scale of the song. Major, Minor, Dorian, Locrian, these are all SCALES of 8 notes taken out of the western music 12 note octave and used in a particular song. When referring to scales other than Major or minor, most people call them "modes". Now when you write a song, you CAN sometimes choose a key based off of your voice type. And you do have to experiment to find what works best for you. This is where some of what you were saying does apply. Some people just naturally sing better in certain keys than others. This is mainly because of singing range, and how your vocal range happens to align with the harmonies you like to use in your songs, in the different keys, and how high and low the notes are. And other factors like emotional statement, how loud you want to be, etc. Basically, some keys will have you reaching for notes a little more than you want, and others could have you going down too low to feel comfortable or give off the energy level that you want. Of course, you can always change the octave you're singing in. But especially for singers with limited range, there are many times the lower octave is too low to achieve the desired effect and feel, and the high one is too high. Situations like these are when people transpose (move up or down) the key of THE SONG. The key of the autotune matches the key of the song. "The key" being the scale of music notes the song is written in. If you are referring to a single note, you actually would call it a "note", unless you were telling someone to press down a key on a piano or something. For instance "how close were you to the note you were trying to sing?" Which is another way of asking "How on pitch were you?" The reason you sounded better before is because you were actually singing half (3 quarters? Perhaps a dollar) decently to the song. When you turned tuning on, having it set to the wrong key (a key a half step below the correct one, no less!) It sounded TERRIFYING because it suddenly sounded literally a HALF STEP flat... Because it was! Autotune was correcting your voice to the wrong notes! Set it to C major for this song, you will sound pretty on pitch, fairly nice, actually. Then add some reverb, a little delay, and maybr a harmony here and there... Yea boiiii XD. And then as far as attack and release goes, you may want to fiddle with these to help get a balanced, more realistic autotune effect. Some people want tuning, but they don't want "the autotune effect"! Also known as, making it blatantly obvious they have tuning on their voice. Real human beings have natural bends and pitch variance in their voice, that if you remove... It sounds artificial, and robotic. Setting the attack speed very high can cause correction to happen too fast... Faster than a human being would correct. If you're trying to sound more natural, first of all don't HARD tune your voice. Go around 50 to 60 on the amount. Then fiddle with the attack a little bit. Keep in mind you do want the attack pretty fast... You don't want to have too many moments where the tune is out before you get to the note. But you also want to sound natural... Real... I would try maybe 5 to 10 on the attack at first but I'd have to play with it to find the sweet spot. DISCLAIMER: I'm not 100% sure about the following part. I'm not 100% on what release does exactly, but if it's like attack being how fast the autotune enables, but sort of the opposite, it's how fast the autotune lets go of the notes your singing. In which case, setting the release fairly high (a quick reaction time) would be adviseable for a more natural sound because, once again, human beings can very quickly let go of a note and you don't want to spend too long holding pitch variance to one pitch unnaturally with autotune if you want to sound natural. But setting the release a little bit slower than 1ms (millisecond!) Could help tame some out of tune transitions just a little bit. Just be careful. Too much could sound artificial. But if you always have it right at 1ms, you might want to make the release just a little later so the tuning doesn't drop off RIGHT as soon as you do. Just to help things sound a little more in tune if you like to drop off the note real quick after hitting it (fall flat quickly, common in certain styles of music). Final note: Release actually could have to do with how long it takes for autotune to react to a change in pitch, OR it could be how long it will spend getting from note to note when the note sung is changed. Very closely related concepts, so easy to get confused. Basically, I'm saying it could be either 1: how long it waits before it will release a note from tuning, when you change pitch to another note Or 2: How long it will allow the bend or "migration time" (sometimes known as "pitch drift") to exist in between notes when the voice changes notes, before it snaps/tunes you to a scale note. I'm not 100% sure which at the moment...
@thepovdweller4 жыл бұрын
Omg so useful thank you he got be confused near the end!!

Man I read the whole thing and g-snap makes a lot more sense now :D I'll have to go through it again when I'm working on a song to get the correct settings though. If you see this mind listing all the settings I should put for "natural" sounding autotune? And I have a midi pack with a bunch of melodies that I make my beats from and they are all supposedly in C major, so I should set the key to c major right?

I would prefer doing tuning manually from the effects inbuilt in audacity and editing part by part rather than applying effects to whole song. It would take time but it would be worth it. If you're a beginner like me experiment is the key

It made my day. Your voice is cute hehe. I think you did it on purpose to sound like pitchy for you to use in this tutorial.

Once the dll has been saved to Plug-Ins, simply select the EFFECTS drop down menu and the topmost option is ADD/REMOVE PLUGINS. Select the top right option named NEW, and then click ENABLE on GSnap to have it added to your existing list. Very easy.

Alright, to everybody who's still struggling. As soon as you downloaded it and got it into your folder. Go to ->Generate->Add Plugins->And search for Gsnap, enable it, and its done.

Awesome it worked!!! Followed the steps to get the app Gsnap along with the Audacity, the only thing is that when I click on it again it is unclickable? And is in grey writing where it won't let me click it? Anyone know the answer to this?

Auto tune don’t really make it sound like you can sing good just more of a robot
@Nexecy6 жыл бұрын
The autotune didnt work on him 😭😂🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯
@inspiredtobeinspired4 жыл бұрын
they key has to do with the actual key in the song that your trying to tune your vocals to. Not what your voice sounds like. so you have to know a little bit of music theory to make use of that setting.
@joesiu49724 жыл бұрын
ok i just watched all the vid nice vid by the way. but i like the not autotuned version better of ur singing
@ClearAdventure5 жыл бұрын
You should have looked up the key the song is in because as an audio engineer it was even more out of key after using the G-snap. But good job at showing how to use it.
