Whichever tool you clicked on to just allow you to drag and drop tracks next to each other, from separate tracks, is not there in the newest edition of audacity. However I randomly stumbled across the ability to do so by hold click-and-dragging on the name of a secondary track past the end point of the primary track. The secondary track just slipped into place then.

File > Open an audio file will create a new project with that audio file; File > Import > Audio will import the selected audio file into the current project.

How can I perform a join without adding the extra space? I just want to have all the clips back to back with no added space added. Basically I have removed multiple parts of a long audio talk track (which has left spaces) and I now want to join everything up again as one clip without having to spend alot of manual time and effort. Is there a ripple delete function in Audacity like there is for video in Premiere Pro?

I have been using a manual method using the Time Shift Tool but was looking for a faster way. BTW I am taking wanted clips from the original audio track and copying them to a new audio track as I go through it. When I paste to the new track there are gaps present.... which I want to eliminate when completed. I would be nice it the pasted clips would just paste next to the last pasted clip.

Just post produce and edit the haps out by highlighting and deleting. Always "save" each time.

Edit -> Clip Boundaries -> Join Edit -> Audio Clips -> Join (in newer versions of the UI. For example v3.3.3) Video shouldn't be anywhere near 2 damin minutes long.
