A series?? Holy grail!!! This is it. Never seen it in person!

The 15202 was significantly more impactful on the culture because it was the one that made everyone pay attention. The 5402 is of course the original and mostly identical so this could be splitting hairs, but nobody really cared about the jumbo until about 5 years ago (they were trading under retail until then).

Great great info. Thanks. I’ve come to love vintage Royal Oaks & Nautilus much more than modern ones! Just slimmed down enough 👌🏾 😎

It is the original one. I imagine for other legendary pieces, the initial iteration is the holy grail, if attainable at all. Same for the Speedy, Sub, Reverso, or Hour Angle.

Hamilton lcd, Omega skywalker, Bulova accutron, Rolex oyster quartz, seiko king/grand quartz i realy respect and admire the models, old quartz and new quartz have nothing in common

The Bulova Accutron was not quartz, but I see your point.

Sometimes I dream of a world where Gerald Genta would have been an accountant, or a salesman in a car dealership, and had nothing to do with watches. Yes, maybe Audemars Piguet would have disappeared as a company, but we would have been saved this non round bezel / integrated bracelet overpriced watches avalanche.
@Unknown-fl7dj Жыл бұрын
The thing is, if the Royal Oak had not been created, it is very likely that the entire industry would look quite different. After all, steel sports watches were not considered a luxury timepiece until the Royal Oak came along. This accounts for Rolex's entire business model.
@jeanlefranc3817 Жыл бұрын
@@Unknown-fl7dj maybe then Rolex would have kept producing sensibly priced good quality tool watches, the Tudor BlackBay line would not exist and the market wouldn’t be awash with hundreds of microbrands. Yes, that’s a possibility. But would it necessarily be a bad thing ?
@Unknown-fl7dj Жыл бұрын
@@jeanlefranc3817 Maybe. However, if that were the case, maybe we wouldn't even want them. But I agree, it wouldn't be a bad thing.

@@Unknown-fl7djThis is mostly a myth. The day-date was the royal oak of it's day, and rolex would be selling datejusts and day-dates out the wazoo regardless of the steel sports trend. Also, the submariner wasn't exactly a strict "tool watch" like a g-shock, it was a luxury timepiece that was many multiples of cheaper brands. Hell, james bond wore one with a suit in the 50s.
