I've owned all 3. The LCD3 gave me the best resolution and soundstage. If you have fancy gear, it scales really well with it. The bass just falls off a bit too early. The X's gave me boosted bass and treble but average resolution and narrow soundstage. Meh. The 2's is all midrange and flat bass. Highs were the fuzziest sounding. Somewhere there's a perfect headphone between the 3. If I had to pick one up again, I'd take the 2C because of its unique tonal balance. Good for pop vocals.

This seems to be a different take. Interesting.

Ryan Hickory Could you add what gear you find the LCD-3 to scale up well with? My listening impressions of the LCD-3s is pretty much restricted to the Deckard and some mid level Schiit audio gear with which it actually sounded worse than the LCD-2 in terms of soundstage and transparency. I've largely preferred the Xs of the three so far but that is based on my current solid-state gear. I listen primarily to metal as a genre so their energy and intensity is something I enjoy. I've been looking at the 3s again with higher end gear, but am not entirely sure of how they might work with my preferences so would like some insights as to what would be a good pairing.
@RyuMasterEX5 жыл бұрын
when you get good gear, the LCD-3s run away from the LCD-X. Many people report the LCD-X to be non-lush, less detailed, grainy and narrowed in comparison. But at least they're easy to drive...

I went to the music store today to compare 2c's with x's. In the meantime I grabbed focal stellias and meze empyrean. Started with the last two I was like OK... stellias sounded a bit better to my ear. And then guy brings 2c's and I got goosebumps :) sounded pretty damn good for it's price. We put stellias and meze back on rack and I got to listen to X's. Played Metallica - Whenever I May Roam and I was flooded by Lars' cymbals 😀 The upper range was too much for me and I decided to go with 2 c's. Relaxed and good for rock/metal. Jazz and soul sounded also great. For someone who likes to listen to music and not the music production I suppose is the one to choose. But every ear is different so it's always better to check yourself.

Great comparison! Just want to mention that the LCD-X creator package doesn't come with a case and the case they sell on their website is not the same case that comes for the LCD-X fully priced. The one they sell on their website, while not being awful, I would not consider a travel case due to how shallow the foam cutouts are. Rather, I'd just consider it to be a ugly dust protector. If I banged around that case at all then I'm sure my headphones and all the contents in the case would go flying. Still, since I did not buy the LCD-X for travel, I'm fine with this at the reduced cost, just something that I don't see any reviewers who recommend the creators price mentioning. (Oh, btw the box that the LCD-X ships with is much better for storing the headphones in terms of fit than the standalone case you can purchase. And, ofc, the case that comes with the full priced LCD-X is better than both.)

Great video! I have tried all 3 of these headphones as well as LCD-2F and my order of most to least favorite would be X > 2F > 2C >>>> 3. I really did not like the 3s, so maybe there was something up with the drivers or batch it came from, as the other 3 were much better in my opinion. Audio is subjective of course but I found the overall bass of the X's to be the most engaging to listen to and as my preferred genres are mostly EDM and Rap I felt the X's fit my specific use case the best. The 2F come close but lack a little detail in the treble compared to the X in my opinion and the 2C is noticeably darker than X or 2F, which left me wanting more as honestly I almost prefer a V shape sound. I struggled for a really long time with justifying the price of the X vs the 2F or 2C and I finally pulled the trigger recently to have my own. I think the 2F comes really close to the X but after hearing the X I couldn't be satisfied with them. The 2C are probably the best overall value if you're just talking sound for your dollar but they don't suit my taste as much as the X's. All wonderful headphones however except the 3 for me, I found them a bit too bright, narrow, and lacking bass compared to the rest. Weird. I think if you have the cash, it's worth adding an Audeze planar to your headphone collection. The X are my favorite headphones to date and I couldn't imagine not owning some kind of Audeze planar.

Did you notice any difference in the earcup depth? I'm asking because the LCD-2C fits fine to me while the LCD-X are not "deep" enough, so the driver gets in touch with my ears. Kinda hurts after some time. Should it be that way or is that a fault/earcup damaged?

Thanks for the comparison and the individual reviews of the 2C and the X. It helped me a lot today when I went in to test each of them. I will say you hit the nail on the head, the sound stage and detail of the X over the 2C was very noticeable and I thought it was much more enjoyable and yes, worth the extra investment. I really appreciate how critical you are in your reviews, thanks again for the helping narrow down my selection of headphone and help come to my conclusion. I own both LCD-XC and LCD-2. The XC is amazing, and almost passes -to my ears- as open sounding! Amazing! Yet they do a great job sealing in and sealing out sound. Partly satisfied, but I Especially for Trance and Phycadelic I would like to have like the Cerwin Vega 12" hardhitting kickbass :), but still fast and precise(not muddy), and still maintaining the precision and clarity in the other ranges. The shape of it is the same used on the Takstar HI2050, but the sound signature is quite different from takstar and superlux signatures. The sound of the HF2010 is very reminiscent of the Sennheiser HD5xx and HD6xx series and has much more balanced and natural sound than the superluxes and the HI2050 itself. Here in Brazil he is well known among gamers and is sold as the rebrand “Arcano SHP80”. It would be great to see a review of this phone and compare it with the Sennheiser HD600, HD58X, Philips SHP9500S ... I wanted to be able to send mine for analysis, but, from Brazil, it is very complicated to do this, due to the high costs with international delivery and taxes. It was sold there in the USA as "Freeboss HF2010". Currently it is unavailable in amazon, but you find it on Aliexpress for the price of 40 dollars.

@BigLazyMoose5 жыл бұрын
Paranoid Android There is a sound quality difference in addition to volume. I highly suggest a good dac and amp for quality audio listening. However, a good dac/amp can not make up for crappy source material.

How do these Audeze's compare against the Sennheiser 650? Is the LCD X really worth $900 more than the Sennheiser 650??
@levilambert93916 жыл бұрын
HD650 were my daily driver until I upgraded to the LCD-2C; upgraded being the operative word. I won't go into the specifics of each aspect of the sound but I can say that to my ears the 2Cs are a substantial enough upgrade over the 650s to warrant the extra cost. I can't speak for the Xs or the 3s as I have not heard them but if you're thinking of upgrading your 650s I'd say you couldn't go wrong with the 2Cs.
@garychen21815 жыл бұрын
I currently have both in my collection and I have to say that the x wins in every department possible except for 650 having fuller vocals. bass, treble, mids all sound more detailed, faster, more controlled and clearer to me, soundstage is wider ect. Its a clear upgrade, the question is do you really need to spend 1.2k to enjoy your music.

I feel Audeze are the hardest headphones to review . I think the dirty truth is 5 minutes after audeze designs a set of headphones they forget who they designed it for . It also a set of headphones many reviewers come back to and rethink and lower their opinions . Initial thoughts vs 15 months later . I love my LCD-2 and LCD-3 and my LCD-X and my LCD-XC but the LCD-4's got sent back. I would never be foolish enough to buy the LCD-2C for about 100.00 less than what is considered by every major reviewer as the second best headphones ever made (LCD-2) . So for about 100.00 more you get CNC machined bamboo cups case fazor angled jacks and A stock drivers and longer cable, Hello earth to Matilda ? I feel Both the LCD-X and the LCD-3 are each great for their intended niche . Lets say they all are 500.00 bucks each, you are never going to buy The LCD-3 for portable use. It takes at least a watt just to get the LCD-3 going . Maybe if the LCD-X sounds better than the LCD-2C that has more to do with the amp? did you ever think most solid state amps output more power at 20 ohms than at 70 -110 Ohms ? Logic tells me LCD-3 is for high end high output amps LCD-2C mid level amps and LCD-X no amps .
@jim86434 жыл бұрын
But did you compare the LCD 3 with the X ? I want to buy an X but also found a good deal on a 3, is the 3 superior in any way because people seem to rate them at the same level.

Why did you return the 4s? How’s the bass compare to the 2?
@joefilter29236 жыл бұрын
Well done. We have different tastes but can I understand that the X’s highs would be ear piercing for me! Hmm Ryan Hickory seems to have a different conclusion on bass. I’ll have to double check, and check out metal571 new vid too.

@@Berkanann I have never listen to the Amiron but I read some good things about this headphone but I have listen to the DT1990 Pro and I liked it especially for mixing. But I need also a Headphone for just relaxed music sessions and for this is the 1990 Pro a bit to flat so I thought the Amiron is maybe a good choise. I've tried it, it still sounds different to my ears, the bass still felt a little more bloomy and while the recessed treble can be changed, its still lacking that little extra bit of detail in the x
