I just got the maxwells today and man am I impressed. The directional sound is amazing for gaming and the clarity of audio is insane. Chat and game are both clear even when a lot is going on. Music, game and discord all sounds crystal clear and are audible without any muddy blending. I changed the EQ to be a bit more bassy because the stock EQ wasn't as clear sounding to me, could be that I'm so used to bass since I've used the astro a10s for about 5 years. Another thing I notices is the bass isn't overpowering and it has a bit of punchiness to it and no distortion. It really sounds amazing because your mids and highs don't get muddy from the bass. The microphone isn't as bad as I've heard it sound on some of thr videos I've seen. It's marginally worse than my astro a10s but not so bad that it ruins peoples ears. Honestly the best pick up ever. I bought the set brand new from ebay with the 1 year manufacturer warranty for $250. A great pick up for $300 but i got a good steal for brand new. If you can get a pair of these I highly recommend forking out the extra money for this especially if you're looking to go wireless.

damn I was disappointed when I bought one after this review. What this man completely forgot to mention is: - Extremely low volume, even on 100% it's not loud and on top of that the sound quality becomes ugly. Jokes on you, chat channel is louder and clearer than game - Quite bad build quality, which sounds insane, but I can't call it anything else than bad, if the strip doesn't fking fit in the headset on the longest setting. And since it has predefined settings, I wasn't even able to find the one which fits my most basic head. It's even too loose or too tight. - You can BREAK diaphragm if you squeeze it on your head or if you PUT them on table - Static noise when there is no sound on any volume - weird cuts of audio when it starts and stops (noticeable in discord or when music starts and stops) - Non-existent support, which didn't even bother to reply me when I asked for a refund

The review quality on this is insane :) I have the original Mobius and am on the more audiophile side of listening. The Mobius had its issues, but it was basically the best all rounder headset for both average consumer and audiophile listening. It did have its issues though that made it less competitive in today's world, so was super excited about the Maxwell - they basically took everything (except weight) and improved it as mentioned on paper. Now with this review, I'm even more confident that they've smashed it out the park - can't wait to get mine. Also new sub, great review - thank you for the time and effort used to spread the knowledge :D

Great review! I got my Maxwell on Saturday, it's pretty good, but the footstep performance is a little disappointing. Too bad they didn't have custom EQ, I was hoping to get your COD EQ. Footsteps EQ sounds ok, but felt a bit too harsh for long sessions.

I am surprised that this channel is not in 500k range of subs, the review quality is impeccable. I did order this headset a while ago, and wasnt 100% sure, then canceled because it took too long to get them, and saw this video 2-3 days ago and I legit took it as a sign. Great review as always! Btw did you notice anything weird around the part where the two pieces of steel meet? Near the hinge... I've seen a couple of cases where it already broke, and after the Penrose defect (mine broke both sides) It would really suck... let's hope it was a isolated case.

Very informative.👌 I spend way too much money on headphones, headsets and iem's and I was worried the Maxwells would be perfect and make me spend a fortune when I just bought the Senheiser HD560s (P.S. i am loving them BTW! Would love to know your opinion on them). But the heavy weight and the lack of soundstage turned me off. Can you please make a comparison video of stereo vs spatial audio (Dolby Atmos, tempest, etc) on headphones? I am passionate about gaming audio but I never managed to come to any conclusion about which is the best option. I game mostly on xbox and i tend to lean on wired headphones because every audiophile out there says they have the best sound but then i connect it to a wireless controller, isn't that defeating the purpose of wired vs wireless? Is there any solution? I am shure you channel is going to grow exponentially! Thanks! 🙏

Hi, I have a PC and a PS5. On PC, I tested Windows phonicy, dolby Atmos for headphones, DTS:X, Sxfi and soundblaster G6. Only the 2 soundblaster feels ok for me. SXFI is superior is soundstage but has too much echo. G6 feels ok but not perfect. The PS5's 3D audio is lot of better than soundblaster's solutions. It's the best surround virtualisation I heared. Personnalisation is the key imo. And it works even with no 3D audio games (simple 7.1), Netflix and KZbin. But not with Apple music, shame on them.

I think with a little EQ the Maxwell will be the one to beat personally. Just waiting for when we can do it. For now, the Nova Pro Wireless will still be a good option (purely for FPS). For music performance, the Maxwell is another level.

The EQ is applied to the internal DAC. The feature isn't published yet, anyways. But I would strongly assume that it remains applied, including Bluetooth audio. Since Bluetooth audio can also be configured via BLE Android and iOS apps.

For anyone worried or on the fence about the maxwell and it’s size. I have a fairly tall and big head, 7 3/4 hat. They fit me perfect on the middle setting of the strap. I was worried it might be to heavy, I don’t find it any heavier than any other high quality headset. I use WC freeze pads and the headset is insanely comfortable. It doesn’t feel heavy at all when holding it, just well built. I do have a pretty strong linebacker type neck but I can’t imagine it being too much for someone smaller. It honestly doesn’t feel “heavy” to me at all. Remember these weights are in grams so even a bigger number still isn’t heavy. It will feel heavier if you’re used to all plastic headsets but to me it just feels solid and well built. Should fit any head very comfortably and I played for 7 hours straight with no weight or neck issues. Hope this helps

Hey whats your opinion about the battery life of your Audeze? i don't think it can go the 80hrs as advertised. I've used mine for roughly 15 hours and its down to 66% . If my Math is right then this thing wouldn't go past 50hrs and a couple of people on reddit have similar experience with their Audeze

The mics sound way better now, compared to the year old reviews, especially the beamforming mics. With beamforming mics I don't have that static/interference noise when speaking (like on most older reviews), it is clear. I don't even use the boom mic anymore.

Saw some people, on reddit, where having issues with the flexibility and secureness of the mic. Have you noticed that? Apparently it just doesn't hold its form as previous mics did. Their fix was putting in the Penrose/Mobius mic, because I guess it fits, and it works. Also, and this is probably subjective, they say the mic quality is actually better than the stock mic of the Maxwell. Found that odd and interesting and wondering if that would be a fun experiment to run.

Yea don't, Audeze doesn't support their products. I had to pay to get my warranty work done on my Penrose. Sent it to them in December, and they haven't updated me, and don't respond to emails. They jacked my Penrose and $150 from me.

I have some higher end audiophile type headphones I game/watch movies with like the Autuer Classic, HE1000 V2 Stealth Magnet and Rad-0 coming out of high end DACS and Amps that I doubt the Maxwell could compete with anyway. @@kaplanbeny When I pre ordered the Xbox version of the Maxwell... Audeze was advertising all kinds of stuff it could do and how it was compatible with PS5 blah blah blah... and now when you read their FAQS they basically backtracked on most of it. Lots of FAQS saying "This may not work" or be compatible. and "We suggest you get the Maxwell intended for its specific Console." So other than plugging directly into the controller where they should be compatible... there will probably be some low volume issues when not using the console the HP is meant for. And forget the Xbox Maxwell being compatible and playing nice with the PS5. Now Audeze can't even get Microsoft to license the Maxwell. Why would they even promote the Maxwell until all this licensing and approval type stuff was taken care of? Audeze just made a template for how NOT to launch a headphone. I'm going to pass on these as I'm only a casual gamer who doesn't need a mic and who already has high end HP's to game with. If you only need the PS5 Maxwell for a PS5 console it's still probably a good bang for the buck... but remember the other poster warning about his nightmare with Audeze. I'm steering clear.

logitech is juat falling off generally speaking. they make really bad stuff. also very good review, the games I play usually are rhythm/music games so I think these will do over my very old and busted 2018 G Pro Xs that are just hanging by a thread. if I may ask, is the XBOX version any less compliant with playstation or is it equal in that regard, just that it has the proper XBOX support for dolby? considered buying this headset as I am a man that loves jack of all trait audio with a bit of that extra bass without muddying anything else, and I have the money for them. I own all those headsets except the Nova. The Maxwell is the best headset I've used to date. I go between Phillips fidelity and Burson amp setup to wireless headsets. Depends on the game or music. The maxwell comes close to sounding as good as quality wired headphones for gaming.

I do really enjoy my Penrose, it just does something for me, in the sound, but that combo is just in another world, so I wonder how close or above that world the Maxwell is. I do like the fancy bells and whistles the Maxwell offers but I like the powerful simplicity of my VZR and what it does naturally, and then what it becomes with the Hel. I do tend to chase tech but I'm at a point where it's hard to decide if I need to chase this new rabbit or if I've already bagged the winner.

You'll never know for sure until you try it yourself IMO. I'd say buy it from a retailer with a good return policy so you'd have no problem returning if you decide the Maxwell is not worth it.

Thank you very much for a very detailed video. I finally found an audiophile who is actually a gamer. You don't know just how much I needed this video. I am in need of a wireless headset as I cannot sit on my desk anymore due to back problems and prefer to play on the couch in front of the TV, but I have been holding off on buying anything headset related as I know they have subpar sound comparing to my current desktop setup. My daily driver is a HD800 driven by a HDVA600 and a Topping E30. I watched your Nova Pro Wireless review and it seems you liked them but decided not to order as I found the price silly. 350 dollars for a gaming headset is bonkers. Then I waited for Maxwell reviews and yours is the first and only one that is remotely informative. I want to thank you for your hard work and I really love that you go very technical with your reviews, makes you stand out. Pls carry on with this format. And we need more audiophile content. Can you do a this week in audiophile news? or something? Tnx!

I've seen some people have this issue but not everyone. It's something I hope gets fixed with firmware because I've seen multiple reports on it. Mine haven't done that so I'm not sure what else to test yet. I did purchase an Xbox version but need more hours on it

Does the headset's microphone have sidetone as an option by chance? The noise cancellation is INSANE on this and I love it. Having sidetone would be an instant buy for me so I can monitor if I'm basically screaming into the microphone. haha.

@@GreenerBlazer yes I do the sound imagine is really good for footstep. My biggest complain would be it abit warm and when alots of noise happen it tend to overshadow other noises.

Been hunting for an Audiophile/Gaming headphone for a while and being from the UK 🇬🇧 i was gutted to find out the VZR Model One didn’t ship overseas from the US… but thank god i waited for Audeze to drop these! Awesome headset, worth every penny. It’s quite funny the only flaw i’ve found is the LED being a tiny bit visible in your peripheral vision while gaming😅 (not that noticeable though) And yes… i only purchased these after watching the @GadgetryTech review😂

I cant choose! help me. At this moment i have the arctis pro wireless (2021 model) with the gamedac. This one goes to my sun. I play only Call of duty (footsteps are important) and i only use it on pc. I like wireless but i saw your review about the vzr model one wich i also like i think? With my arctis i like that the batterys are swapable and not screwed or soldered for longevity. I think i would like the combination of a few ones. for example: for footsteps the vzr model one, for comfort and convenience the arctis pro, the sound quality the audeze maxwell, for functionalitys maybe the astro a50x. Witch one would you or professionals in the comments recommend me?

Something I don't think was addressed, and that am curious about, is if there is a difference in sound quality between bluetooth, their provided 2.4GHz dongle, and USB and/or 3.5mm wired?

Another review I saw said the wired was worse because it has to go from analog to digital in the headset for processing. They recommended not using it except as a convenience.

Anyone else's game volume low? I just purchased a set of these and the Bluetooth volume is great but, the Xbox game volume is medium at best. With all known volumes turned up. Audeze so far is telling me that their volume level should be in spec. Any help is appreciated...

I'm going to buy these. Thanks for a great review. But I don't understand the need to play games and listen to music on your phone at the same time. Maybe it's just me. I like to dedicate my energy and focus on one thing at the time. So I'm happy they made this decision for me.

There's a common issue with these headphones that almost all big tech channels fail to mention. The diaphragm on them are INSANELY brittle and will be damaged with even basic use after a while, any sort of air being pushed into them will cause the film to become loose & have an irritating 'tin foil' sort of sound when you move your head or adjust them. Just had to return my pair and found an entire reddit thread of others who have also had the same issue.

I just got the maxwell yesterday and am returning them today. The overall max volume is terrible, there is hardly any bass. Even after messing with the eq for a few hrs I juat gave up. Everything stays flat. I have the penrose and they are louder and better sounding. It's sad because i was extremely excited for these but they are just terrible.
