Beautiful car. The design and color of the car is flawless.

I do agree with you morlvol especially when you look at what was on offer by other motor manufacturers during the same period. 👍🏾

Very nice revisiting memory, I had one 1977 100 GL 5E way back when - exactly the same color scheme and spec. It was a very good car then, the 5E was also very quick for it's time - and looking at this restored example - it was and still is a very good looking car as well :) Thank you for chairing :)

I’m really glad that the short video brought back good memories of your Audi 100 GL. Great cars. 😀

@@WeBlogAnyCar I drove my Audi 100 GL 5E from Tromsø far up north in Norway all the way to the south of France one summer in the early 80'ies. The car was prestigious enough to open all gates to the most exclusive estates on the Riviera at the time. Remember very well being cash drained one Sunday in Antibes, and was advised to seek out the Eden Rock hotel, and try to get access there and have my travelers checks cashed in. I stopped a few hundred meters from the famous hotel mansion, put on a good shirt and tie, and drove passed the guards at the gate, porters opened my door, and rushed me in to the concierge who cashed my travelers checks. Oh yes, the 100 GL 5E was a valid VIP card at the time :)

Hey if you turned up in a Audi 100 GL 5E today and I was a porter, I would rush to open your door then get my camera to take a photo of the car 👍🏾😃

Mine dad had a similar one dude. It was with leather seats (dark green ones). I still crave to find one to restore in the future. What a beauty. Cheers dude.

Dark green leather seats sounds lovely. If you can find one to repair you should definitely restore it. 👍🏾

Revisited this video now, and I think it's fair to say that the 100 GL 5E was the car that brought Audi into the premium game. Grate to see some of them still around :)
@WeBlogAnyCar4 жыл бұрын
Interesting thought. 🤔I never thought of it like that...but it is good to see that some are still around. 👍🏾
@flothchtronk20683 жыл бұрын
It wasn't considered "premium", they played in the same league as Ford and Opel back then.

@@flothchtronk2068 well up till the 5E - that was a game changer, I remember very well one guy I was visiting talking about rich German tourists in their Merch 450 se, BMW 7 series and Audi 100 GL 5E... Not knowing I had arrived in my new 5E. The same experience I had driving up to Eden Rock Hotel on Cap d'Antibe a few weeks later, red carpet treatment all the way. Anyway- that is how I remember it

My grandfather had one back in '78, 1.8 engine. I was only 6 then but I remember it very well, the interior was exactly the same, steering wheel on the right side of course. He bought a 5 cylinder diesel in '80. His latter type 43 had white indicators, whilst the first one still had the orange indicators. I currently drive a 5 cylinder, but not an Audi, a Volvo b5244t5 engine.

Thanks for your memories. You have continued the family 5 cylinder trend. 😀👍🏾

My boss had one of these back in late 70's with factory air conditioning, quite a rare option at the time, he changed it for the newer version c3 in 1983 also with factory air and I bought that one off him in 1990 by which time the air con had failed, it was a 5 cylinder automatic, pretty quick in the day.

Thanks for sharing your memories on Audi’s. I can’t remember the last time I have seen a c3 - 100 version on the road. 😃. My dads mate had a 100 CD and yes back then I remember it feeling so fast and smooth. I love the 5 cylinder engine sound.
@dunk81574 жыл бұрын
My Dad had 2 of these, a 1.8diesel (French model) in about 1980 and then the run-out UK model which was the 5cyl 2.144 with mechanical fuel injection and a 3 speed auto with all the accessories. Both Avants which were the wedge shaped hatchback versions. It was really quite quick, and the 5 cylinder engine made a mean growling sound when racing people off the lights. I think it was 136hp and 0-60 was about 8.5seconds. It was quiet at speed too so you could end up driving fast and not realise it. I thought it was a really cool looking car when I was a kid, and nobody had Audis in the UK in the early 80s, was pretty unusual. The 5 cyl petrol only did 22mpg though, and was a bit complicated, the central locking was vaccum operated which wasnt always reliable, and the mechanical fuel injection was pretty hard to tune. Great car though, the Audi 100 that came after it was a much bigger and heavier, probably more tuned for compfort, and they stopped doing it as a hatchback only an estate.

Thanks for your comments. Good memories for you. Both the original and the wedge shaped Audi 100 that came after it were/are great cars. Like you I have found memories of being driven in them during the early to mid 80’s. Definitely cars that felt way ahead of their time. 👍🏾

Surely a nice car that was bought in Germany mostly by old men with hat back then. The colors were impressive. You could easily show much more of the car. We don’t see the rear end in this video for example.

I own a Type 43 older than the car featured it has a R reg prefix July 77 and I believe made 6 months in production.(waiting on birth info) It is even more original than that 100 in vid. Green 100 had had welding to arches etc and the same inner wing issue I have. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXbCgXqVatKKi9U the restoration. Green 100 kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYLLlWB3hNGMmZY my car 1st run in 31 years. Unwelded sills rear wheel arches front and rear valances stored 32 years. A vid of its 1st start up in 31 years on my channel. I believe my Audi is the oldest C2 2.0 gls same spec as video 40, 600miles. It has factoryv markings extremely original. Slowly recomissioning. Only bit of rust is in inner wings not bad easy to fix. They all go there. The driver in video has great taste. These are very hard cars to restore parts are really hard to find.

I'll do a walk around. I had all the brakes rebuilt and water pump reconditioned it retains all factory castings.

@@WeBlogAnyCar Yes it is a very nicely designed engine. I did a compression test pre firing. From fly wheel 90.95.90.100Psi after sjort run 130 Psi across all cylinders. The compressiin will improve. I then removed inlet and rocker cover to make sure valves were free oiled era. Had the water pump rebuilt (to keep original factory casting marks etc.) I flushed the cooling system and back flused to clean Inspected carb. And put on a temp fuel line.
