Pretty much the same as Tesla's auto-steer feature except that Tesla called it Autopilot and people thought it was an actual autopilot, which it's not. I think that was a huge marketing ploy that sold more Tesla cars. Audi, MB, and others don't seem to value that marketing hype as much.

How does this compare to the Mercedes-Benz A Class (Distronic Plus) or the BMW 1 Series (2020) (Driving Assistant)? Also: What happens when you don’t touch the steering wheel again? Does it turn on the emergency assist automatically then?

Got the new A3 with the traffic jam assist and trust me, in a city drive like you do i wouldnt be so confident about the car's ability to dodge any crossing pedestrian or sudden car accident, its clearly an assist, not a tesla autopilot, i personnaly use it as a way to take the curves in the highway without effort , but always with my hand on the steering wheel, its not the purpose of this option anyway, the car always ask u to take over the steering and if you forget there's a sudden emergency break that remind u "No no no mate, i'm not an atonomous car", great car, great assist anyway, but if anyone plan to drive like this with this new A3, forget it Btw 7:07, u overtake on the right side, you should have accelerate yourself, with the assist on the car breaks if u go faster than the a car driving on your left lane.

Tesla autopilot (European version) in some situations is better, in other worse. Similar to Audi, you have to keep hands on the steering wheel.

The newest BMW Assistant (3, 8 series, new X5) is better in heavy traffic thanks to their camera which observes driver eyes.

When the ACC stops the car in traffic, do you have to manually restart the car or will it automatically drive off by itself? It’s not clear in the video as it’s all going to fast, but I had the impression that you were tapping on the cruise control lever every time the car stopped?

Look at 1:05, the car starts by itself. If stop did not take too long (more than ~10 seconds) the car will stop by itself.

Its the same system in q3 2021 ? today I had a test drive in q3, the system bounced off the lines. Didn’t hold the middle, people from Audi din’t now why its working like that.

Probably you used lane keeping assist only, not proper lane assist. This is two different features.

Can verify. I just bought a 2022 Q3 and there is adaptive cruise control with lane assist, which will pull you back into the lane if you veer too far, but also full lane assist (which you need to turn on in in the MMI menu.) I can understand why full lane assist is not automatically on, as if you are trying to actively drive, it feels very strange having the car sort of "fight" your natural ebbs and flows when it tries to keep the car DEAD CENTRE in the lines. Makes for absolutely beautiful country or highway driving though.

Tesla FSD is so much better. Only car that stops at traffic lights/stop signs, make turns at intersections and navigate around parked cars and through roundabouts.
