Audi A3/S3/MK7 8V 2.0T GFB DVX sound tests

Here are some sound clips from under the hood of my 2016 Audi A3 Quattro. I recently installed a GFB (Go Fast Bits) DVX blowoff valve and several people asked me to make some sound clips so here it is. All but the last two clips are with the DVX fully open. The last two runs are with the DVX closed. I highly recommend drilling a small hole in the GFB DVX lever and adding some safety wire so you can adjust it inside the engine bay without burning your hands. It's simple and took me 5 mins.

Top mods are downpipe. Stock downpipes are highly restrictive. Next, I suggest a tune. I like Unitronics for the ease of use with thier cable vs going to an APR dealer all the time. Upgrade your stock is20 turbo(2.0t engine) to the S3 version is38 and get the proper tune for it. Unitronics rates thier stage 2+ is38 tune at 381hp (crank of course) with required mods (intercooler, air intake and exhaust). I have a catback magnaflow exhaust but it's crazy loud so I took it off. CTS makes some of the most cost effective intercooler and other parts. Also, the TT-RS big brakes for about 2012 year models are a direct bolt on aside from needing new brake lines to fit. These rotors are like 370mm and are badass and most cost effective brake upgrade you can do. Message me for any other mods. I've done a lot to my car and everything was done by myself. No dealer work.

Looks like it gets about 23 PSI of boost? Also, it sort of sounds like there's a slight boost leak because of the flutters at max boost with the BOV opened up?

I was looking at buying an aftermarket DV like this. My stock system makes that fluttering type sound that can be heard in your video during acceleration. I thought I needed to replace mine, but this makes the same sound, just louder. Do you know if that fluttering sound is normal and what it is?

Oduck22 it's normal. It's just the noise it makes because it does flutter.

Ok thanks! All I have is an intake, and I just went to Stage 1. Before Stage 1, it didn't make that noise, but now it does. I'm ok with it, just didn't want it to be a problem to the car. Appreciate your reply, and you have a great car and this video was helpful! 👍🏼

This flutter is normal with stage2+

The flutter is turbo surge. Its where air is forced back against the turbo which can help wear out the bearing faster.

I have this and a turbo blanket going on this upcoming Wednesday, can’t wait! Sounds insane! Is it noticeably loud from the outside of the car? You get looks at lights??

I actually just removed my blanket after the 3rd turbo blew. I think it keeps too much heat in. All 3 turbos sheered the exhaust Turbine right off the shaft. Now I have 3 exhaust turbines in my oem exhaust. Lol. Sold my Magnaflow system and wish I didn't.

I have a similar set up. Did u notice any performance gain from going the GFB DVX over the stock DV? Do you know if there is any benefit to having the dv open closed?

Dave Slight performance improvement with the valve closed actually. I saw 306hp open and 316hp when I closed it on a back to back dyno pulls.

Dave I generally drive with it slightly open since I love the sound vs a slight hp increase.

i have this on my 16 audi s3 no tune just stock Is it ok to leave it all the way open or half way open Some ppl say all the way open can cause harm to the engine

No harm will come to the motor. Been using mine wide open for years. Some people are dumb though. lol.

Is there a difference between the DV+ and the DVX in performance?

Eduan Wessels Not sure but I would imagine there would be as the dvx is adjustable and the dv+ isn't.

Dvx is vent to atmosphere dv+ is recirc like original it just holds boost better and can handle more.

The only literal difference is the dvx can be adjusted the dv+ can not. But the dvx fully closed will fully recirculate ALL the air back into the turbo, where as half open its 50/50 recirc/VTA. I just picked up a dvx for my volvo s40 I'm stoked

Flutter under load is normal and fine without loaf it isn't

To anyone reading this, no it is not fine. Compressor surge under high load (pedal to the floor) is always going to do damage to the thrust bearing and you will lose performance. Dyno on a very hot day showed 316hp at the wheels. Unitronics says that tune should make 381hp though. Pretty far off but their claim is crank hp, which is funny because they never pulled a motor and measured it feom the crank. They even show a car on a dyno and advertise 381hp.

Nice Video! So i Drive a Seat Leon Cupra and have the Same Engine like Golf 7R. I am fucking interested in the new DVX, it sounds so amazing! Is there any disadvantge vs the "normal" GFB DV+? I am quit unsure about the dvx. Here in Germany no one drives it. It Is Not really "arrived" here in europe..

The Gauge I have is called the P3. Very useful gauge with lots of information. Does, 0-60 times, coolant, air intake Temps, timing, rpm, boost psi, and something else.
