I would pick this over the CLA. I like the styling inside out and those alloys fitted I really like too.

I love all the reviews commenting about the boot access not being as good as on the hatch. What are you planning to carry?! As long as you can get suitcases and the weekly shop in and out with little effort then that, surely, is the main thing? I have yet to carry a washing machine or dishwasher in a car, I get them delivered, so exactly _how_ is the boot access bad?
@JMNTN5 жыл бұрын
i think not having such a giant hatch swinging out is also more practical, this boot doesn't swing out any further than the bumper

Audi once again have succeeded in identifying a market that...doesn't exist. The A4 is the direct 3 series rival so I have literally no idea why you'd want a A3 which is slightly less practical than the hatchback version. This is a direct Merc CLA competitor. BMW no doubt will want sort this problem out 1 series saloon anyone?
@gde198911 жыл бұрын
yep, and these vehicles (A3, A Class, 1 Series) are premium offerings of a Focus, Golf, Mazda 3, Corolla sized car. These models offer a sedan version which are more popular in America, China, Eastern Euro countries. The Golf has the Jetta as its' sedan equivalent. So there is a market for a A3 sedan sized car. Here in Australia, hatches sell more than there sedan equivalent, but depending on the model it can be the other way round. e.g. Mazda 3 - more sedans, Golf/Jetta - Golf by a huge margin. I would prefer the A3 sedan as I prefer sedans and it is sized perfectly as mid-sized cars have become too big recently. And I don't mind that it's slightly less practical, as I'm used to a sedan and hardly ever use the boot (trunk) anyways.
@Hopgop16 жыл бұрын
I prefer the saloon to the hatch. It's a much more grown up car than a hatch, its much more stylish too. The added practicality of the hatch really doesn't add much to anything. The boot is still plenty big enough and the opening is absolutely fine. The A3 is the CLA competitor, not the A4. The A3 is the stylish A4, smaller and sexier.

He didn't mention any comparison to the CLA which in truth is its main competitor?

I have an 08 Sportback 1.4T and honestly just can't bring myself to like this new A3 saloon! Just always thought the A3 should have remained a hatchback and only a hatchback, it's kind of the whole point of it because at the end of the day you can get a saloon A4, A5, A6, A7, A8 if you want so it's not like you were stuck so choice when it came to saloons.

Problem with audi is they have wayyy to many cars in their production line sporting very similar characteristics. means less attention to detail, they have improved over the years

Amazing they won´t go through the trouble of changing the position of the start button accordingly for right hand drive countries, lol..."I am going to start the car, but I have to go to the other side to push the button". Small thing, but details are everything.

Think What Car have got confused with their reviews. A3 saloon hasn't replaced the A4 saloon therefore it shouldn't be classed as a 3 series rival. Had a courtesy a3 saloon last week for a day whilst my a4 was in for a service.. A3 has the typical easy non sporty Audi drive. Well made, but road noise vs a4 was terrible. Very loud. Not a huge fan of the interior. Well built but very basic looking. Mmi controls also lower res than the a4 mmi. Nice drive, nice car... but definitely a small brother of the A4.
@monk3yboy6911 жыл бұрын
I think he was meaning if you cannot afford a 3 series and it is a saloon you are after, then the A3 would pretty much do the job of 3 series, just on less money. I am not sure about that to be honest. The A3 is definitely no contender for a 3 series, but, as you say, a nice car for the money. Basic indeed, but they are entry level luxury products. The idea being you move up onto the next model as you earn more money.

What is next, the Audi A3,5? "Everything you need folks, bigger than the A3 but not as quite big as the A4"...and later the A3,75 "bigger than the A3,5 but..." you get the picture.

I'm sorry but I don't understand why everyone praises the A3's interior. I've been in one and apart from the interior being normative in terms of materials, it's very vanilla in design and has one of the ugliest dashboards I've ever seen. Its like a huge black log sitting in front of you. In terms of minimalist design, BMW does it wayyyy better, and Merc's A Class interior is simply gorgeous compared to this pretentious Golf
