I had to do the same, its funny how these Audi springs break so often. My experience was far different, its a cramp area and needs a strong single sided spring compressor, i had to crank the spring compressor down very tight and even then only had a little bit of wiggle room to push the lower A arm down just enough to push the top seat in place. I have no idea how that A arm has that much twist to take the whole spring. The video makes it look way too easy but its not. My springs are different from the video though, they have the white-green-green green marks on the bottom non sport
@robertficek75863 жыл бұрын
@PooJoe Its not too bad, i used a single sided spring compressor bought on Amazon, and it worked out fine. The audi manual says you need to compress a min of 4 coils. Lowering the sub frame will help but is not necessary, i had to unbolt the top damper and either top or bottom hub bolts to allow the lower arm a bit of swing. i unbolted the top as its easy to remove and the weight of the hub helps push down the arm, but mark the alignment position if you do. If the springs are changing the ride height significantly then maybe you would need to loosen the suspension bolts and allow the bushings to resettle to the new height, this would also give you more room to install the springs. The factory ride height should be about 15-15.5 inch from the bottom of the fender to the hub center
@realjiver2 Жыл бұрын
@@robertficek7586 Same as mine. I didn't have a single-sided spring compressor so, I had to lower the subframe so that the arm would come down far enough to get the standard size spring in.
@robertficek7586 Жыл бұрын
@@realjiver2 Its been a while since i did this but i also found out that you can loosen the 2 inner a-arm bolts and the arm will swing all the way down and you wont even need a spring compressor, except you will need to do an alignment after

I have an A4 S4 b6. But as far as i know it’s the same. But when trying to put the new springs in they are a few cm too tall and i can’t get them in. They are exactly the same height as the old springs so it’s not that either. Any tips? I’ll be trying to see if i cant get one spring compressor on the springs today. But not too much space for them 😅

@@diydaly Thank you for such a quick reply! But with some help and a spring compressor on one side of the spring i got them in! Hose clips is a solution i will remember for the future thou! Could I remove the anti roll bar first before the two big bolts on the bottom of the hub? In your video you done the two big bolts then the anti roll bar link after. I only ask as my spring is not broke so still under some tension and I would rather reach in there and undo the anti roll bar while the two big bolts are still on so no chance of getting my arms nipped! @diydaly3 жыл бұрын
Tbh I’m not sure mate , I’ve never replaced a rear spring on an A6 , will try find out for you 👍
@queuing893 жыл бұрын
Yes its similar but not exactly the same, i have just taken a broken spring out of A6 C6 AVANT with standard suspension and the spring is longer and the well it sits in is deeper than the same model with sports suspension. Even with half a turn missing from the spring and the bottom arm levered down as far as it would go, it still had too much tension on it to remove it. I jacked the arm up to compress the spring and put two small ratchet straps through the spring and looped them around it three times on either side to hold it compressed while i levered the arm down and pulled it out, it was still a struggle and i then put ordinary spring compressors on it and tightened them until the straps came loose, removed the straps and loosened the spring compressors. Check the sticker inside the boot to see what suspension you have: 1BA Standard, 1BB Heavy duty (20mm higher), 1BC Special purpose, 1BD S4, 1BE Sport, 1BP Heavy duty (same height as 1BA but with limited bump), 1BT Heavy duty (7mm higher). I HAVE NO IDEA HOW I WILL GET THE NEW SPRING IN AS IT WILL NEED COMPRESSING TO FAR TO BE MESSING AROUND WITH HOLDING IT WITH STRAPS, COMPRESSED SPRINGS ARE NO JOKE AND IF YOU NOT 100% SURE HOW TO DO IT, LEAVE IT WELL ALONE.
