I own the same car, but in sedan form. I bought it in 2013 for a nice price and it's been my daily driver since then. You can get an APR I+ tune with upgraded 386cc/min injectors and 710N diverter valve from the original 2001-2004 Audi TT 225hp version. The APR tune bumps it up to 235hp / 275ft-lbs. It's still not a rocketship, but it's a night and day difference. With the APR tune, 6th gear becomes usable for in-gear passing. Get it, trust me, you'll love it and wish you had done it sooner.

Joe Hutchinson yes the power issue is actually a very simple fix. Check out the company apr and their tunes. Very reliable tune, the stage one will give you 50 more hours power with stock equipment.
@Joe_Rebel7 жыл бұрын
+Joe Hutchinson Did you do it? The APR Stage 1+ upgrade is really good value.
@Joe_Hutchinson7 жыл бұрын
I haven't done it yet. The A/C compressor just went up so I dealt with that first. Let's see how it goes. But that power increase would be very effective on this car.
@Joe_Rebel7 жыл бұрын
Yeah it sucks, you wanna do things then life throws obstacles in your way haha. It would bring it back up to par with modern sport wagons for sure! It would make the car overall more enjoyable, and as long as you stay off of boost you get similar or better economy than stock (reported by many owners). You should also do some prevenative maintenance by replacing the stock DV for a stronger counter part to avoid any "surprises", by that I mean that the stock DV is weak and fails on its own so replacing before you increase horsepower is ideal. Simple and cheap mod as well.

I own a 2003 A4 Avant 3.0 (first and only owner) w/6speed. The original HP rating was 220. IT has 115k miles. No problem pulling out on the highway. Original clutch. It has the sport suspension. No rattles. No squeaks. It drives like new. I love having the extra room with the wagon. The screen partition in the back is great! Drives great in the snow. 14 years of ownership and I still look forward to sliding into the driver seat. I plan on keeping it as long as humanly possible. Wait until you your $3k timing belt replacement! lol

Thanks for watching and you are so right, a wife who truly enjoys driving a manual is a rare thing indeed. She really loves it! She has been using a manual since she started driving I believe. So she is a keeper for many reasons. It's a shame many car companies don't sell performance wagons to the U.S. anymore. I think BMW may still sell one here, but not Audi, which is too bad.

Joe Hutchinson Are automatic transmissions more popular in the Us? I find this strange coming from Britain where 90% of cars are manual
@osternice12375 жыл бұрын
Ronaldo R9 In the US, you basically get your license with an automatic. Even though you have never driven a manual, you are still allowed by law to drive a car with a manual transmission. You have to learn to drive a manual by yourselves, so I guess that most people in the US decides to just stick to automatic

I have an 02 avant with the 3.0. I love this car! The comfort and features of the car are great. Things that are now "standard" are all in this car. Everyone who talks to my wife and I think the car is much newer than it is. I would say by far the best feature is the Quatro system. The car handles the snow and ice perfectly. It almost feels as if you are driving on dry pavement. We also have a 2010 ram which is much larger and heavier so it slides around a little more. The heated seats make winters feel like a breeze. There is alot of maintenance to be done on these cars but it is to be expected on a 15 year old vehicle. Love it!

My Audi dealer suggested that I would have no problem running mid-range instead of premium in my 2002 A4 Avant (and Infiniti G37x) and we have had no problems for the past couple of years. Just be sure to use at least a mid-range gasoline since the regular gas will not have the detergent additives that would be needed. I also had a 2006 Infiniti G35x and always used mid-range instead of "premium" per the manuf. recommendations and I put over 180,000 miles on that car without any engine issues before I traded it in.

the 1.8t is the most wanted engine in the B5/6/7 in recent years. the prices for cars with this engine is through the roof, because of how reliable and easy to tune it is. and in eastern Europe, we install LPG which brings fuel expenses to a minimum. right now my 1.8n/a costs me less than $5/100km. what im surprised is that you had to change clutch so early on. i replaced the clutch on my b5 at 210k km, if the odometer was true and not rolled back.

I have to say it's a very clean B6 A4 - mine is a work in progress and a 2.5 TDI V6 Quattro 6 speed manual with some enhancements (down the line will be over 200bhp maybe 250) but I have to say at UK Audi meets I've rarely seen them that clean. Interesting you mention the power, and it could be the delivery as I've had mine Dyno'd atm at 176bhp and I get my torque from 2k rpm to just shy of 4k when power drops off and I find it accelerates well on the motorway, guessing yours needs ringing out a bit? On one had I want to say preserve it, but on the other I bet a few tweaks, remap, CAI, exhaust and maybe reworked turbo would transform things.
@Joe_Hutchinson6 жыл бұрын
Yes, my wife and I really like this car. My wife is the primary driver of this car and she enjoys it. Several people who we have come in contact with want to buy this car. The guy who details the car, the guys at Audi service, even folks we meet at the grocery store express interest in buying it. We want to keep it. Power is the one thing it may be lacking compared to cars of today. Perhaps one day we will make the tweaks you are suggesting to get more out of the engine. But we are happy with the car overall.

Very Good video enjoyed it. But a question for you Would you trade your GTS for a 991 GT3? Or a Turbo S (Say Money is not a problem, would you do it?)
@Joe_Hutchinson8 жыл бұрын
Wow. Money no object. Well if money were no object I would get the 911R. 500hp, manual transmission and its chassis set up sound perfect to me. But I am sidestepping your question a bit. It's a tough choice between a 991 GT3 and the Turbo S. Both are incredible.The Turbo S is mind blowing fast. If I had to call it today, I would go for the 991 GT3 though. I may change my mind tomorrow, but today, I think that the GT3 with its NA engine, rear drive and personality is appealing. My wife may not like it though. But the Turbo S is a monster that combines incredible performance and luxury usability. So it's a hard choice between the two for me. Today, I would say the GT3 has the slight edge due to the raw personality and NA engine.

No recaro seats like the S4, those are the best feature of the S4 in my opinion.

Manual is only rare in the US because very little people can drive manual. In germany there are really good drivers and the driving test is alot harder compared to the US. In germany there ist still 70% manual drivers.

so overall , the audi has been mainly affordable to maintain and reliable? i have a dreams of owning a wagon , but the advice i hear from so many " stay away from German cars , they wont last you " has prevented me from biting the bullet. I let go of wonderful bmw e46 wagon and audi a4 wagons opportunities because of it ,8(
@Joe_Hutchinson7 жыл бұрын
I hope I don't jinx it but the Audi has been going strong since 2005. Again, the big things we have had to replace are the engine mounts and the clutch. Other than that, everything is functioning as it should. No reliability problem at all.

Guillermo Ortiz bro, german cars are the strongest and most reliable out there!

Actually German cars my friend are usually the state of enginering. The way it feels, the way it drives and reliability are out of questions. I've never had BMW because i am just not fan of it and also Mercedes-Benz was just way too far from my interests but I've owned VW GOLF 1.9 TDI estate and loved it, had to sell it as I've moved abroad but still remember that feeling from driving it. My dad has owned Skoda (VW family group just like Audi) for many years and had no troubles with it what so ever. Just service and tyres and that was it. Now I have surviving Ford Puma from 2002. It has just 76000 miles on clock and I am buying parts almost every month now and it is not fixed yet everything. Have done front springs twice within just one year, because they just keeps braking, wishbones, bushes, clutch, heater valve and more and I am sick of it and this Audi A4 estate is actually what i am just looking for in the market just wish to find one so tidy and well maintained such as this one in video above and with 1.9TDI which is "bullet-proof" engine which is going to last very long, there are examples out there with about 500k miles on clock and they just keep going like nothing happened. I've heard about some troubles with Merc's but could not confirm anything. Also Audi's first generation of 2.0 TDI has had some troubles with oil pumps so engines were failing in few examples, but that has been sorted already I guess. Correct me please if I am wrong. But in the end if considering new or second hand car Germans are for me at first place where to look at. Hope it helps you to decide and get your own experience with them.

First, this is an awesome review for an awesome car. BUT, to this day, I don’t know why Audi decided to call it Ultra Sport, make it almost an S4 from the outside and them, just give it the S-Line steering wheel. Why is there neither a black headliner nor the awesome sport seats, or even the original Recaro seats from the S4. Both, the seats and the headliner were part of the S-Line interior package in Europe. So there is no Point in not including them in this model.

Why do you cover the license plate, when anybody can see it when you drive it?
@Joe_Hutchinson7 жыл бұрын
I go back and forth on covering the plate. On the road, there are so many cars and so many plates that I don't think people pay attention to the plate number. There are so many. But in a video, when all you are looking at is the one car, the number on the plate is front and center. So some people suggested that I cover it for security reasons. Not sure it's necessary really.

Well if you don't like the ride buy 17" wheels and tune the engine a bit. This one can go easily over 200bhp

You need to get a new mechanic if you're getting charged 2,000 for just motor mounts. Also the clutch in my 2006 lasted twice as long - 150k miles and I beat on it. If its going out that soon somebody doesn't know how to drive it right. But yeah, sweet ass car.
@Joe_Hutchinson7 жыл бұрын
You are so right about getting a new mechanic. We had the engine mount service done at the Audi dealership and we all know that dealers charge a lot more. This particular dealership is good about standing behind their work so it was a little bit of a trade off for peace of mind. But yes, I need to research a good local mechanic. Regarding the clutch, I'm not sure what to say about that. My wife and I have always driven manuals since we learned how to drive as teenagers. We have owned other manual cars and didn't have a clutch problem. Perhaps we were harder on the Audi clutch for some reason. As you can see, we love the car and so far it is running strong.
@bfourney7 жыл бұрын
NO WONDER it was 2k, you had the dealer do it! First thing to do with any BMW/Mercedes/Audi/VW that no longer has warranty is find a good mechanic. I think I had mine done for maybe $1200 along with the clutch, flywheel, and CV joints, all using genuine parts. If I had all that same work done at a dealer it would've easily cost at least $3000. Best way to find a good shop is to talk to a euro parts store and see who they recommend, because they probably supply lots of parts to lots of shops. Such a store will also sell OEM manufacturer replacement parts like Bosh, Mann, Hengst, etc for a fraction of the price that the same exact parts packaged in a VW/Audi box will run at a dealer. If you go to a small shop you also get to be on a first name basis with the owner after awhile. Sometimes I'll even just text my guy to let him know I'm having an issue and I'll drop it off, and he also will let me occasionally use his account to pickup parts from my local dealer for a significant discount. As far as the clutch goes it's possible that they had a bad run. It happens with lots of VW/Audi parts unfortunately. They'll supersede the part with a newer version because of some defect in design. I just remember mine lasting to 150k being the sole owner and driver of the car, vs the previous car I had which was also stick that lasted to 50K but I bought it with 20K miles already on it with who knows driving that clutch.

How can summer tires being too rough be a negative on the car? Get some smaller rims with balloon tires if you want a soft ride or put the correct air pressure in them. I run 235/30r20 on my S4 and the ride isn't that bad. Also the clutch not lasting is because you guys wore it out. Same as if you ride the brakes and wear them out quickly. If you aren't using the clutch properly you can kill it after a few months. That's also not the cars fault. And engine mount replacement in an A4 doesn't cost $2000. I seriously hope you didn't pay that much.
