these tops should be a recall. Ive never seen one that lasted.

EXCELLENT job. Ridiculous for companies wanting to charge thousands for this SIMPLE repair. I think u can start your own business doing this. So many ppl have this issue. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻

Excellent job - worked for my A4 / 2004 as well. I probably saved me a CHF 6500 Bill. The "Bostik Simson ISR 70-08" is THE ONLY and reliably working solution - I have tried more than two other glues - Bostik works.

Did you also try cabriodoc 2-component glue specially made for this repair?
@MrOffshore3 жыл бұрын
I used 3M Window Weld and their suggested primer. Followed directions exactly and the repair lasted a little over a year. Not happy with it coming apart, will need to do it again. I’m going to pull the canvas down a bit on the bottom where I had my failure this time to take some pressure off the bond. Hoping that will help as the convertible top material has likely shrunk a bit.

Mine has a direct texas sunlight on the back window. It heats up so hot that it will burn me. I think that will make any type of sealant last less time. Silicone would be difficult for it to penetrate though. But I don't know how realistic it would be for me to add a layer of silicone or rubber around the glue 😅

Thanks 4 that There are loads of audi cabs on the market with horrible black tape all over the back window For almost nothing I would say the biggest problem would be all the damage the water has already done by the time it comes on yhe market Anyway i will buy 1 and try this method myself

Great professional job attaching the window. I am unfamiliar with what written off means. Does that mean you purchased the car at a considerable discount? Worst case scenario with this fine car is that you would just need a new convertible top. Am I correct or is there more to this? Would like to hear your views.

I have a Toyota Celica GT convertible. 1997, beautiful red, hardly any miles. The rear window has completely fallen thru. I wonder if this would work? The window has rear defrost so I guess that’s probably just finished but I would like to get the window back in.
@write-offrescue46413 жыл бұрын
Should work on any car. Might be trickier if the rear window is not glass like the Audi. If the wire to the rear window is not broken your defrost should still work. Good luck!

HV just got the bostik 70-08ap, just when I look into the instruction, it say prepare the surface with primer. But what description say the SMP material don't need any primer. Confuse now do I need to use the primer ? If yes, put on both glass and canvas side ? Or just glass side ? p.s. I cannot get Bostik N40 primer in my region. Only I can get is 3M Primer 94primer... Can I use this with Bostik 70-08 ?? Mind is a Audi TT roadster convertible
@write-offrescue46414 жыл бұрын
I don't know the specs on that Bostic material, but if you clean it with alcohol or metholated spirits it should clean the surface enough for a good grip. Unless your canvas is really dirty I would just use it on the glass.

Hello. I have the same problem with my beloved S5. Unfortunately, the fabric on lower right hand corner sags, which pulls on the glass’s upper right hand corner. Do you have any suggestions to restrict the fabric from sagging. I can send pictures.
@christophermagnan47923 жыл бұрын
Looks like a bolt snapped in the frame and that is causing the sag on the right hand side.

Make sure the glass has good attachment to the outer canvas roof and the inner material 'head liner' should come with it.... good luck

My A5 had a broken cable that allowed it to sag. There’s a small parts kit from Audi that has cables for each side, it was a little over $200(US)…pretty expensive for what you get. Easy to replace though. But because it sagged my glass pulled away and that was a bigger repair, like you’re seeing in this video. I used 3M Window Weld along with the recommended primer and followed the direction exactly. It’s messy stuff, mask off and wear gloves like this video shows. But I did not put the glue all the way out and use it as a caulk, I don’t like that look…it held for a year and pulled loose at the bottom (that’s where I am today and not happy). I also used window clamps to hold the canvas top to the glass while it cured. I’ve seen people use 3M VHB tape with success, though this video said they had failures from water…VHB should not fail from water, we build car trailers that have VHB as the bond to hold the aluminum skin on, and water can get to the tapes edge…no failures. I’m thinking he may not have primed window and canvas top possibly or had a contaminated surface. I’d love to try the VHB, but I will likely try the 3M Window Weld again. I might try not to put the canvas back in the factory position and pull it back down a bit because the canvas has likely shrunk and was putting too much constant pressure on the bond causing the failure. I hate doing this job. Good luck to you.

Just get some pressure on the inside of the car pushing the window out and it should do the same job. Otherwise you could always tie it to a tree or your house gutter and pull from the outside like me. Repair should last at least a few years or more under normal conditions. You can always clean it up and redo it again too if it fails. Just take your time to do a neat job. Good luck

@@write-offrescue4641 the top, left, right of the rear window is already unglued. But the bottom is still fine. You suggest to take it all off to glue it or just do the top, left, right is fine ? My TT is a 07 mk2. Btw, Im also comparing the 3M 08609 Window-Weld Super Fast Urethane Black vs the bostik 70-08 which you using... Any idea ?
@write-offrescue46414 жыл бұрын
Probably not much difference between the materials. I would just glue what has separated as the other side will hopefully stay stuck. They only come apart because the canvas shrinks over time. Once the pressure is removed by the other sides the rest might be ok in the long term. You can always fix it again if that comes off later. Good luck
