I own one like this for about year and a half. Love it. Done some warranty repairs (electronics) The real world fuel economy is different, though. On the highway it gives me solid 32-33mpg at 75-85 mph speed (goes up to 35-37mpg at 55-60 mph) The city driving averages about 27 mpg, may go to 25 mpg during really bad stop and go traffic. I consider it as a very good economy for 335hp engine. No oil consumption or issues of any kind with powertrain, silky smooth and amazingly powerful. It feels different from Mercedes or BMW, it gives this unity feeling, it becomes an extension of your body. Excellent seat ergonomics, I could drive for 16 hours without feeling tired. May be it's not as practical as SUV or minivan, but this vehicle is more about being a part of your life, it can make it happier for sure...

I can vouch for the superior qualities of a wagon over an SUV. I’ve owned three, including two a4 allroads. For one, they are different than most vehicles on the road. And they are practical, drive better, and in the case of the A4 allroad, they get much better fuel economy than their SUV equivalent. I’d get one of these A6 allroads in a heartbeat if it were $10k less and actually available at any dealer in North America. The reason Tom isn’t seeing these daily is that Audi corporate doesn’t send many over to our shores despite demand.

One of the reasons Audi’s stop/start system is so smooth is because unlike other manufacturers’ systems, Audi’s shuts the engine off while the car is still in motion, slowing down. Instead of the engine shutting off at the moment your car comes to a complete stop, which you can feel, Audi’s system shuts the engine off shortly before you come to a complete stop while the vehicle is still in motion so you don’t even detect that the engine shut off.

I drive a 2022 A4 Allroad and really like it - my 5th Audi wagon. More than enough room for me, my wife and our chocolate lab. The car is reliable, goes anywhere, is stylish and nice to drive. Two minor complaints: the MMI is flaky - sometimes things work, sometimes not. And the engine sound is weak - sounds like a lawn mower sometimes. As you say, Tom, it is not a sports car. I know, because my other car is a 911! Another great review, Tom. Thanks!

I just bought a 2022 A6 Allroad in the same soho brown. It looks even better in person. I was getting pretty tired of driving my GX and missed my old Mazda 3's handling so this seemed like the best of both worlds. These are quick but I'm so amazed at how comfortable it is. The power is always accessible. The all wheel steering keeps it sporty in dynamic mode. I haven't driven mine offroad and probably won't go further than a gravel road or the ski slopes, but this isn't made for that. I'm getting about 30mpg driving conservative on the highway which is pretty nice. Negatives that I've noticed... my Allroad continues to charge my phone despite it being fully charged and it actually overheated my iphone, so I have to pull it out of the carrier after it's charged. Also, the rear windows don't go down all the way.

Great review. Like you, I’m a huge wagon fan, owned a few fun ones including a VW GLX VR6 wagon, a Subaru WRX wagon and my favorite, an ‘07 Volvo V70R wagon. Raised 4 kids over the years in the various wagons, but when it was time to retire the last one, the V70R, we just couldn’t find a similarly sized wagon replacement - at least not one that was awd and had a powerful engine and more of a sporty dynamic (without paying big money). We ended up getting a Touareg TDI - gave us the space, plus with the low end torque, it’s quicker than people expect. And I would say that the quality of the Touareg has always been a step above many Audis - at least that is what I experienced as we were cross shopping with the Q7 and they always looked and felt cheaper inside. Hopefully with the coming electric future, wagons can come back as a better option than the now ubiquitous SUV.

I absolutely loved my 2002 Audi Allroad-- an A6 avant with the 2.7 bi turbo and silly black cladding. The air suspension was great and I'd still have it had the typical Audi alternator failure not taken a large portion of the electrical system with it.
@benjaminkohl3422 жыл бұрын
Just one little note: the drivng aids are standard on the mid teir premium plus or part of the convenience package on the base premium trim on A6 sedan, and on the Allroad which doesn't offer a base premium, they're available through a commonly equipped exectuive package on that trim if you don't want to step up to the prestige. Because of how Audi publishes wondow stickers, it looks like you need the prestige trim if you're testin a prestige car, but the package essentially includes all of the premium plus tech PLUS the few additional features like upgraded headlights and HUD.
@DrivenCarReviews2 жыл бұрын
True and I didn't make that clear. My point was more that this is an expensive car that requires upgrading to common safety tech. I think it's $3,800 to get adaptive cruise and BLIS (and it's bundled with stuff like rear seat heating that some could care less about).

Great review as always. Another wagon fan here since my 1st Volvo 1222S. Had an Audi A4 sedan but after 4 years we missed the wagons utility so much we went back to a wagon. Audi definitely knows how to make a great wagon. However, so does Subaru and Volvo. Your comment "... could buy two top of line Subaru Outbacks for the price of this..." is spot on. Could also buy a nicely equipped XC90 for considerably less. If you've got the cash and the marque matters to you, Audi is nice way to go. But for many of us the TOTL Outback ain't too shabby, has more space a bit more space, gets better mpg, and probably costs less to insur.

Great review as usual Tom. I cross shopped this in 2020 with the MB E-450 wagon and ended up going with the E-450. The 2nd row seats in the A6 didn't fold flat which resulted in even less cargo room. I was disappointed when I saw how much smaller the cargo space was compared to the E450 wagon. The A6 had about 20% less space than the E-450 wagon. I buy wagons because I need the space for my two large Greyhounds and I don't want to drive an SUV. I did love the ride and performance of the A6 wagon and the interior is on par with the E-450 wagon. Also, the E-450 in 2020 was the last year MB produced the 'regular wagon' for the US market before the SUV wagon became the norm, like the raised and plastic cladded Allroad which was another reason I went with the MB wagon. The A6 wagon was slightly cheaper than the E-450 was but two years down the road and I'm very happy with my choice.

@@DrivenCarReviews That isn’t true. SUVs can skirt CAFE standards, wagons cannot. Automakers know this and that’s why SUVs and Pickups have been heavily marketed for the past 15 years. Implying “that’s what the market wants” is disingenuous because it was what has been abusively marketed and available. Even sedans now require ordering process versus just grabbing an SUV off the lot.

@@snareman41 I've heard this argument many times and there's a nugget of truth in it. The truth is Americans want large vehicles. And the argument doesn't wash when it comes to vehicles like CR-V and RAV4 which are the most popular vehicles in the US (riding on the same platforms as Civic and Camry). Automakers can market all they want. People buy what they want to buy. And automakers still need to adhere to CAFE standards and want to sell fuel efficient vehicle.

@@DrivenCarReviews Is it honest demand if it’s demand that’s manufactured? Consider the music industry, Taylor Swift has landed 15 songs in the Top 100.
