I am toying with the idea of moving to those helix subs in the same configuration of 2 12s sealed but in seperate boxes. My w6s run out of steam i think and lose some control under louder volumes. I remember my idmax was a noticeable improvement and now these helix seem to have filled that gap.

Hi Peter, nice video! I’m sure it’s sounds much better now. Also nice to finally see one of my favorite brands in one of your vids (sounded you liked them). I am almost done with Steg SQ35 ceramics in the A pillar; goes lower then the ME30. But went for the Ground Zero Reference EVO gold for the tweeters instead of the Focals TWE in the sail panels. Also Ground Zero 6.200 SQ plus amps; but hesitated between them and the Zapco 6.150 AP’s. Read a test at a German Magazine with better results (dampening factor and S/N ratio) for the GZ then Zapco. Hope it pays off. Maybe a visit to you from the Netherlands…..

@@pssound9749 I agree Peter, but specs on paper doesn’t mean anything sometimes, like in the Danish Insignia. I purely based my choice on the test (which is actually also not the best manner). I could have the AP’s for almost the same price, but they don’t appeal to me. mobil.hifitest.de/bestenliste/in-car_endstufe_multikanal_16 (this made me choose these amps over the AP’s, which are tested to). S/N and dampening factor are better of the GZ. They mention that these are very close to the GZ Reference.

@melissathompson7229
@melissathompson7229 3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! Head unit x over is much more accurate than most amplifiers. Also on a head unit you can change the slope to 24 db per octave etc where on most amplifiers its fixed at 12 db. Most of the time its a guess on the amplifier where 80 hz is for example as its just a silk screen on the amp, unless you have an SMD CC1 or something similar which will be more accurate if using the amplifiers x over
@MickeyMishra
@MickeyMishra 3 жыл бұрын
Head Unit all day long. Not sure what model, but some have something that is similar to Pioneer Network mode. Where you can select 24/dB per slopes for the front High and woofer(Midbass) and of course levels and so much more. TIme alignment as well as basic E.Q. (Some per speaker, some per system) There are a Few limitations, but they are pretty minor as you just have a simple 2 way setup for most folks. Doing a 3 way is a bit of a band aid as your crossover points just don't suit something like the system shown here in the video, but it can be done with some compromise. If you are on a tight budget, stay with what you got until you can get one of these units that has the same up front controllers that Peters videos often feature. They make using the system a joy and ease in daily driving. The Budget options are EXTREMELY FLEXIBLE! But come with some VERY real headaches you have to Iron out. Like the custom Linux Distro's that can be used in a Car PC DSP/ Audio situation. (asus Zonar I think is a GREAT USB DAC to use btw) Basically, its for the Audio Geek people who have more time than money or like to build things to suit for a special application or goal. And the cost? It an be often as much as Turn Key DSP/Amp combo. Never mind the Car realtated heachaches. MiniDSP is the budget defacto with a Nano Digi with 8 outputs and that still needs a Good DAC (topping level or better) to really make it shine. And by that time? Your already in a stand alone DSP price range. Dayton and others have good parts but sound and problems with use are hit and miss. I hope that helps.

Thinking of using now two 8s in each front door and one in each rear door. Subs will be two 12in sundown NSV4 ran with a 5k sundown sfb. I will also run the mids off a sundown sfb 8k for now. Mid range and highs will run on two Zapco 150.6ll. I will be using nav tv and a JL Audio twk88 for sound processing. Not to sure what to use for tweeters as of yet. Still not to sure if I can use lithium cells (cibs or yinlong) or a upgraded alternator as of yet. Use of lithium and a upgraded alternator is truly my hold up.

Hi Peter, I know you are very busy, but if you don’t mind can I ask your opinion? I’m running for quite a while two Mac Audio Aliante’s black limited 12 in sealed enclosures. Very happy with them. How much I desire to go true IB the construction of my car doesn’t allow it. I know you don’t advertise on brands but I had to ask it; I’m thinking as replacement for the Aliante’s two Esotar’s 1200 or the Scan Speak gold 32’. Is this a wise choice or are there other subwoofers you would recommend. Or do you think, “ you’ve already got one off the best, don’t change a winning team”? Main reason is that I want a little bit more umpf on the lowest notes (p.s. the Esotars have a huge X-max on relatively low RMS with a low FS just as the Aliante’s). I am told that the Esotars are very musical. Thanks and have a good weekend.
@pssound9749
@pssound9749 2 жыл бұрын
If you can’t do IB, then you need lots of cone area and big box. Swapping 12” to another 12” is not gonna change too much, especially if you already have Aliante subs, which can play very low.
@umtbozkr2358
@umtbozkr2358 2 жыл бұрын
@@pssound9749 thanks Peter for your answer 👍. I was just thinking Esotars I’m the back and one off the Aliante’s as front woofer in a small sealed box. It’s a 5 series station wagon. A front woofer would be a solution in avoiding rattles of under seat woofers. I have a third brand new Aliante, but it has an rattling issue I couldn’t solve (has opened it but couldn’t find the problem). If that was ok, I wouldn’t bother other brand woofers.
@pssound9749

@@umtbozkr2358 how would you use an Aliante upfront instead of the underseat ones, which are not subs, but kickbass drivers, which have to play higher than a front sub should?
@umtbozkr2358
@umtbozkr2358 2 жыл бұрын
@@pssound9749 no, you misunderstood me. Off course an Aliante upfront would not replace the under seats. What I mean is that you can crossover the under seat higher, as a result the rattle issues will be less. It’s just thinking ahead. Off course with midranges that can play low enough..

Not that I’m interested in buying them. But I’ve been waiting to hear a honest opinion on the STEG brand of speaker. His pillar build looks just like mine. The shape location and aiming is almost identical. My tweeters are in custom mirror sails.
@umtbozkr2358
@umtbozkr2358 3 жыл бұрын
I was lucky to try, and still own quite a lot of Steg speakers. For the price you get a lot off equipment with a very good sound. 1. The ST650 in tree way; really nice build quality and good sounding speakers (not sold anymore). 2. The ME650 like in the Audi (by the way the SQ32 are not the original tweeters for the ME); very stout/powerful kick bass but the original tweeters are to mellow to my taste. The RE65 3 way; ceramic woofers and midranges and the original tweeters are the SQ32 like those in the Audi; very, very nice. Effortless playing woofers, clean sounding midranges and the SQ32 is a very good tweeter, especially seen the cost of it. Smooth but lacks a little bit detail and resolution. Maybe because off the size (32mm!). By the way; Ground Zero earned a EISA award with the cone of the RE65 on their SQ16 woofer in a three way configuration.

@@umtbozkr2358 thank you for the detailed response. I’ve watched a lot of Fred and sound videos on the Steg brand. However he gives VERY biased reviews of them in his comment section. Always claims that they are the best you can get.
@umtbozkr2358
@umtbozkr2358 3 жыл бұрын
@@myboy051 you’re completely right. “Fred” like he calls himself is biased, I assume he is compensated for his “reviews”. Indeed, Steg speakers are wel made nice sounding speakers, but not the reinvention off speakers. For example, I wanted to use my SQ32 for my build, but was very interested in the more ten times more expensive Reference gold tweeters off Ground Zero. I took the risk and bought them; night and day better then the SQ32. Other issue I have with Fred is his lecture of beware off fakes, beware off Chinese knock offs; what fakes? There are no fakes. And I bought them from the official importer off Steg (and Zapco!), who personally told me that they are made in China. Fred denies it. If you know the right adres to get your equipment, you pay much less. I can buy a Zapco 6.150 AP for €1349.-!!!

A local shop in my state takes Care of me cause I do the same for them. Im a automotive tech of 19 years. I do mostly electrical diagnostic work, computer coding and programming. I’m currently running the Hertz Mille legend tweeters 280.3 and 700.3 mids. Also the Audio Development W800neo 8” midbass. I’m currently shopping different mids and tweets. I’m not sure what I want yet. I do like the sinfoni grandioso opus but they are out of stock for a while. I wanna get a chance to listen to the focal utopia M, Accuton , hybrid audio X line, I wish I had the space to run the Dynaudio Esotar 430.
