Audi A8 Air Suspension Repair Easy DIY D3 2004-2010 Residual Pressure Valve Replacement

If your D3 A8’s air suspension is stuck in lift mode, it’s likely that you have a defective residual pressure valve. The A8 has one of these valves on all 4 corners and if just one of them fails, the car will raise the other 3 corners and make the entire car sit higher. You will know that a valve is stuck or defective when removing the air line to the strut. If only a small amount of air comes out, then the valve is likely stuck or defective. You should replace the valve but you may get away with just removing it and reinstalling it. If the issue comes back then just replace the defective valve. Hey was driving down the road heard what sounded like a pop noise from passenger side; moments later the suspension lights popped on hooked the code scanner up nothing came up. Now the front end is low but Rear is still high. Any clue on what it could be?

Scan it with something like obdeleven, it could be many things, maybe air line got damaged on that strut or the strut itself failed

I’m having same issue with my A8 d3, on the mmi it shows it’s on dynamic but the car is way to up from even the lift mod. Specially the rear axle. I’ve got 01400 error: upper limit exceeded. How did you knew which vale to change? Thanks!

Hey its not the worst problem to have lol at least it’s not leaking! 😂 but jokes aside it’s normal for the whole car to be stuck high even though just one valves may be defective. I was able to narrow it down to one specific corner just by seeing which one was sitting the highest. If I was you I would remove the valve on the wheel sitting highest. Just let all the air out carefully, reinstall it and see what the car does when it airs back up. It may regulate all 4 corners just by doing that. Sometimes the valves get stuck in a wierd position and you may not even have to replace it, just try removing and reinstalling it. Let me know how it goes!

Thanks a lot. I’ve tried that, manually took the air out. When I started the car, it went up to the sky again and gave me the same error. I’ve ordered all 4 residual pressure valves. I will change them and if the problems will be still there, I’ll change the valve block as well. Thanks again for your information!

@@georgecostea97 Wow that’s tough to hear lol, the only other thing I can think of that can throw the whole system off as well is 1 bad level sensor. That is another thing you can try swapping out on the highest corner if the pressure valves and valve block doesn’t fix the issue. I have also heard of a faulty compressor causing weird issues like this but that is less likely. If none of that works you can try an adaptation with an obdeleven, it may let you bring it down that way as well. Best of luck!

Make sure there is no leak in the system, if one side is leaking air then the car raises the opposite side as much as possible to compensate for the leak that way the car is still drivable.

What if it's too low in the front it will not go up the compressor comes on

Most likely it’s one of the front struts. When it happened to me it was the right front strut but I ended up replacing both front struts

Sorry it was my 1st time with the GoPro! I basically just replaced the part I showed. Just turn it left and it will come right off. To reinstall it, just do the opposite.
