Audi Q5 Centre Console Trim Replacement

Replacing slightly damaged (dented and scratched) brushed aluminium trim from the centre console of my dads 2012 (possibly 2013) Audi Q5
For what the trim is its a slightly fiddly job removing it, and slightly disappointing that on a car like this the trim would damage so easily in the first place. Nonetheless, it is something that can be done DIY and it is not too difficult.
I think this process should be vaguely similar on the A4 from a similar vintage.

Great video, after watching most of the video I decided it was easier to just set fire to my q5 and claimed on the insurance to buy a new one...saved me from having to take the car apart. Well done audi for over engineering but using trim with the rigidity of play-doh!

Do Not waste your time EBAY has $50 to 80 Trim pieces that stick right on top And look AMAZING they are a carbon fiber look What a disaster to take all the apart!!!!

I very much doubt that on closer inspection they look amazing, possibly akin to stick on fake wood trims from the 90s but in carbon fibre because modern

Great video -really useful but the two bolts at 4:16 are easier to remove if the back trim is removed-they do not hold in the trim. Easier to put back in as well with the trim off. My car has an AC duct running under the console and there is a small section which is suspended from the console on three tabs. When putting the duct back in make sure it is located in the three tabs then the power socket will not end up going into the duct. But very useful video and I would not have found all the bolts otherwise. Made the job so much easier and less bad language too!

Hi, own an SQ5 and at the moment having problem with Airbag Module.. is it true that it sits under the carpet there under the middle console? Can i reach it from the back part just by removing the handrest without having to do all this? Very helpful video btw 👍

Hi there I think the parking brake switch is removed from behind, its not a case of popping it out from the top, the trim needs to be removed first.

Hi there im not too sure to be honest, Audi/VAG isn't really something a work on a great deal. I would assume they have their subtle differences. Best to join the owners club facebook pages for the specific car and asking on there.

Hi any advice on running a USB cable into the armrest and upto the stereo. I'm buying an Android stereo and would like to use it for Android Auto but my car doesn't have a factory USB.

Hi there, when you have this central trim area out there should be ample space to run a usb lead into the arm rest area, you might need to drill a hole for it to pass through. Have a google for in car usb ports or terminology to that effect it would be tidiest to terminate it in the arm rest area with a usb socket that you can then plug any lead into. As for going up to the new headunit that i am not sure about but would say when you have the factory one removed there will be a clear route to pass the cable to the back of the headunit.

Thanks for the video! I may have to swap out my automatic gear selector since it's not electronically indicating it being in park too easily. It resulting in my key being stuck in the ignition sometimes. This will certainly help get me access to where I need.

it is undoubtably a fair bit of effort for what it is, i cant say it wont happen to it again, perhaps if the trim was plastic with a textured effect such as wood or carbon fibre then it would be more resilient to scratches/dents than this aluminium.

It might work although in the long term the edges will be more inclined to peel up whereas if the bit of extra time is taken to remove the panel getting the wrap to go round the edge will significantly improve its adhesion with the trim.

Interesting video, I just bought a 2014 SQ5 from an Audi dealership with a bashed up one and I said I wanted it replaced.... don't think they were too impressed but they are doing it before I take ownership of the car! Now I can see why he screwed his face up... I wonder what they would have charged to do this job!!!

I wouldnt be too keen on having to pay dealership prices to get this done, its a shame the material is prone to damage. Regarding the SQ5 nice :) the 2.0 TDI in this one felt quick enough the SQ5 must be quite exciting.

I think if i recall correctly my dad got the replacement trim from ebay. At the time it was still price about £130.

Unfortunately not this was just a 2.0 TDi diesel I think about 170-180 Bhp.

Thank you for this video, it really helped particularly so I knew where to pry to remove the rear plastic trim before unbolting the armrest. Next I’m going to remove the large trim piece from the centre console and refinish it in carbon fibre.
