Small tip, run the engine for 3 mins before taking the oil out, so the oil is warm, which makes it come out easier.
@HarrysHikes5 жыл бұрын
Yes I forgot to mention to bring the engine to operating temp to make it easier to drain, at least 10 mins really

Great video. Just one observation, you use a power tool on the sump plug. I'd be too scared incase l cross threaded it!
@HarrysHikes4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Yes well observed, I did use a low powered tool. Like you said it's not a good idea to use the larger power tools for this for the exact reason you state.

Hi, thanks for the video. It maybe a daft question but how do you log a manual oil/filter change for the service history? Cheers
@HarrysHikes2 жыл бұрын
As it’s all electronic you can’t really. As I do the major services with a dealer that gets logged. But with my minor service (oil/filter change) I just log myself in my diary with mileage and date.

Great video. I am not sure if I would be happy with using a power driver to remove and replace the sump plug. Also I would place the filter in the housing first.

I bought all the oil and filter directly from audi and it was less than £60
@HarrysHikes3 жыл бұрын
@@sentinal_uk That's pretty good, I bought enough for 2 old changes (due to the size of the oil containers) and spent £100

You're right, but luckily I set the torque on low so not to damage the plastic.

Just done oil and filter change on my 2018 8v tdi. Except the undertray everything is different. The oil plug is metal screw the filter is at the bottom of the car (you spill oil no matter how hard you try). Can I ask how did you secure your car on axle stands ?
@HarrysHikes4 жыл бұрын
Matt oh that is very different. With axle stands just jack the car up half way each side and put the axle stand under, then jack up each side more and raise the axle stand to desired height. You can’t raise it straight to full height, coz as u jack up it affects the other side.

Hi Harry Did you buy 8 litres of oil. I seen you had a drum of 4 litres and used over 5. Is it also necessary to replace the sump plug? Can the old one not be used? Cheers
@HarrysHikes4 жыл бұрын
ThunderMk2 there was an offer on the 4L oil so I in fact bought 3, enough for 2 oil changes. I had a 6L oil pan to drain the old engine oil (approx 5.7L). You can reuse the sump plug but as they are so cheap it’s good practice to replace or at least have them handy in case you break it when removing. Last thing you want is something like that so stop you from completing the oil change and have to get that part. Hope that helps.

Harry's Hikes sorry for harassing you again. Ive just been told I have to replace the oil filter with a genuine part if I’m to keep my warranty. Do you happen to know what filter that is?
@HarrysHikes4 жыл бұрын
ThunderMk2 it doesn’t really matter which manufacturer as long as it’s OEM for your car. I have enclosed links, descriptions and OEM codes for all the parts in the info section

Thank you for this video! I'm doing the oil change next week, I guess it is the same in the 2015 RS3 8V. By the way, do you have a dashcam? I hear the same sound when it starts recording :)
@HarrysHikes4 жыл бұрын
Best of luck with the oil change, it’s pretty straight forward and will be much the same process for your 2015 model. I do have a dashcam, it’s the Viofo A119, great dashcam! A tip in case you don’t already know is to connect the dashcam to the cars MMI usb rather than the 12v. That way it starts up earlier and stays on for longer after you switch off the ignition 😉
@jansolanellas4 жыл бұрын
@@HarrysHikes Thanks! It will be easy with your help. Good idea! Mine is connected to the 12V, but can be always on since I moved a fuse. Only starts recording when something crosses in front of the car, with motion sense.

Dont the tfsi hold 5.7L of oil ?
@HarrysHikes5 жыл бұрын
Yes that's correct, hence I fill up 5L then turn engine over to circulate oil, then fill 0.5 - 0.7L after that and check the level. This accommodates for any oil left in the system and makes sure you keep the oil level on the dipstick in the middle.
