In the USA A3 and CLA250 start at the same price and the S3 and CLA45 are within a few thousand of each other Should be: A3 vs CLA250 OR S3 vs CLA45 This video is like comparing a 4 Cyl Toyota Camry to a V6 Honda Accord and then complaining that the Camry is under-powered

I'm glad you mentioned the road noise in the S3 - it was horrendous. For that reason alone I would reject it. Surely Audi could do a better job of noise suppression for that money.

hawkesworth1712 sorry pal I own a amg cla250 its a noise box, drone ,engine noise its a car not made for every day maybe for 400m drags its all its good for but put a tune through the audi its gone my husband owns a golf r 2015 same engine as the audi with a tune and it blows me in the weeds and yes I have a tune in the amg still beats me I have squeaks' and rattles in mine as well my husbands golf r not one biggest mistake buying this car should have bought a m235i better fit and fininsh and refinement......

For all you who don't know, in Australia,the S3 saloon and CLA 250 is priced at around 75k. Hence the reason why they don't use the CLA45 AMG which is priced at around 100k. Blame Mercedes for being overpriced here.

Pricing there is so weird! Here in the states the CLA250 starts at 29K and is far less cheaper than the S3. I wonder what that's about? I assumed that prices were higher for you guys, but why are they similarly priced when they're about 10-15k difference here.

MB CLA 250 is the entry one with 208 hp or 155 kw power. It can be compared to A3. In the US, the S3 is compared to MB CLA 250 AMG. Based on the US spec sheet, S3 has 292 hp or 218 kw power and CLA AMG has about 355 hp or about 265 kw of power. As you mentioned CLA starts at about USD 30K, but CLA AMG starts at about USD 47K. On the other hand, CLA 250 is FWD, at least in the US. Here, they are talking about the AWD one.

S3 is a "performance" version of A3 and "performance" version of CLA is CLA 45 AMG. People who buy S3 are never looking at CLA250 as an option they consider CLA45 AMG as an option if they have the money. People who buy CLA250 may consider Audi S3 as an option in terms of price. But the fact that they bought CLA250 shows they didn't really care about "performance" anyway. So I'm cool with what people prefer to buy with their own money. Just saying it's not a good comparison.

The point is that this reviewer, did compare the two German compact luxury sedans and the real point here is that the Audi performance version, is still more reasonable than the Merc. Now I'm taking it that you prefer the Merc. and that fine but to rubbish the comparison is a bit unfair. On your other point, there some people who can afford the CLA250 but would buy the Audi A3, not even the S3 because they just prefer Audi rather than Mercedes. Your explanation is all conjecture.

The S3 has around 300hp, but depending on the country the HP might decrease due to the climate conditions to protect the engine and the turbo. For example, on Mexico the S3 comes with 285 hp.

This video is like comparing apple with orange instead of comparing Two apples or two oranges. It is favor for Audi. He should compare the s3 with CLA45 AMG. because letter "S" in Audi is the highest performance in the class and "AMG" the highest in Mercedes Benz. And if you compare the two, CLA AMG will be the obvious true proud winner that can have up to 360 hp and does 0-100KM/H in 4.5 seconds.

No it's not. Handling is more dynamic and exciting than golf r. The new golf r is trying to steal it's spot, getting closer to audi's style of steering, but still not as good. S3 more expensive than golf r, and it feels and drives better. Exterior I'd be embarrassed to be seen in a vw.
