Hi Peter, it‘s a pure pleasure to watch you at the wheel and see your driving pleasure immediately. I would take the JCW clubman for a drive when I was in a bad mood because the interior has a far greater cheering-up-factor. The Audi is more decent, it has the going-to-the-opera appeal, it’s more businesslike. What about practcality, boot space? Can you fold down the passenger seat in any of the two cars? It was a great idea to do this head-to-head race. And I‘m eagerly looking forward to the next edition of Peddlerz Rides.

Funny, for me I went to Carvana and bought a convertible 2015 Audi S5 which I thought was a dream car, and indeed it was fantastic except that it arrived with no oil. After a long aggravating week in the shop, turned out it needed a new engine and no way I was going to take a refurb engine in an Audi - so I swapped it in for a 2017 Mini Cooper JCW Convertible which has been a BLAST and my family loves going for quarantine escape drives. Different, yes. Not quite equal, but both excellent. A lot more positive attention in the Mini, everyone always waves and smiles at you :) With the top down, there's a bit more wind in the Cooper but I have absolutely no regrets so far. Though if I had to do a long road trip, it would be better in the Audi but that's not common - and it won't be as useful come the winter but fortunately I work from home anyway. I did just finish adding the Koni Special Active shocks since mine was also missing dynamic dampers, and I'm happy to report they DID make a great difference over road seams and other aggravations that typically rattled my teeth in the Mini. But I don't believe there's any car besides Miata that could top the fun of the Mini.

Just to see you in your element reviewing cars was good to see, its mad how lots of people take things for granted but as soon as it's taken away you miss it so much, I've been lucky in the fact that I have been able to go back and fore work but for people like us, driving is more than just something we need to do, it's what we love to do.

I've always liked "normal cars" to be either dark blue, silver (Or grey. Which is almost silver!) and possibly black. Depending on the car. As for interiors, that depends on the exterior. If it's a black exterior, then a dark brown always works. But I find it odd how many manufacturers do not do a grey seating interiors. If you don't opt for black, then you're left with cream or even worse, white. When I was working I had a lease car. Renault Laguna. Dark blue. Grey seats. As for other "sportier" cars, then the world is your lobster for colours. Red is always good now as the colour doesn't fade to a dark pink. But Ferrari do a very dark, almost blood red (Rosso Fiorano.) that looks stunning on the GTC4 Lusso. A car I could easily lust for :-))... I was surprised that the weight difference was only 5kgs!!?? :-\\... As for the love or hate relationship with Minis. I love Minis. :-))... But I really hate my Cooper S. :-((... Great video as always Pete :-))... However... I have a simple question; You can only have ONE of the cars. Which one would you keep? The Mini or the Audi?

Would take either of these cars out for a drive. Both have a nice kick of acceleration and both have a usable space. The S4 has more headroom for performance though, with an appropriate ODB unlock of the top end.

I've only just recently subscribed to your channel and have been binge watching you over the last few weeks....I actually think you're more entertaining than the current Top Gear series....Anyway to this vlog I would say your JCW wins for me for 2 reasons. Firstly the JCW has so much more character than the S4 and looks so much more fun to drive, which leads me to the 2nd reason, is I have had 2 Mini's myself my current one is a R53 and goes like the clappers. I'm pretty sure that the Audi has a sound actuator to improve the engine tone. I believe you can pull a fuse to compare if this is the case. Out of the two cars I would certainly take the mini its a proper sleeper car that you don't expect this car to have that much power. The estate version of this generation mini is without doubt also the best looking.

Reminds me of my clubman and how much fun it was to drive, although the previous Audi A3 could munch through miles no problem. It could do my 36 mile cross country commute in 45 minutes. That B road is fabulous, been down it a few times on holiday. We have some similar up here in the Yorkshire Wolds, just a little too straight for my liking. Show me a bend and I tend to drive a bit faster! Just the issue that my car isn’t that fond of bends compared to the Clubman.

I took a JCW out on Saturday! A car that made me smile very much ! My current car is a S3 convertible which also makes me smile when I drive it......... Do I change my current for the new mini? Technically I would need the Audi because of the better ride and I like 6 cylinder engines but....yes...I am an old Mini driver...as you might recall...1966 old....so in the showrooms, if Mrs HQB could stand the ride with adaptive suspension, I think the Mini might well win...and it would be called “Beeb”...in memory of my old friend and neighbour Mrs Stokes who had that Cooper S engined Minivan, old DBH 942B....so yes...the Mini wins!!! Hi Ped Very fair, honest and interesting comparison.🤗 The two cars achieve similar remits but in totally different ways. Mini cheeky full of character and brings a smile to your face. Audi understated elegance without drawing too much attention. Maybe it’s my age but it’s Audi for me. Going back many years my Cooper S first mod was white Fablon stripes down the bonnet, looked good on green body colour & white roof.😎😎

I haven't owned an Audi but owned VW Passat B5&B5.5 based on Audi A4. I would chose the Audi S4 Quattro. My VW Passat 1.9TDI 130bhp SE 2003 was a 4 motion.

Two great cars Peter, as you know I have a B9 Audi A4 S line but 2.0 TFSI S Tronic the same colour as yours, brilliant car fully loaded with Matrix headlights which I think in one of your previous videos you said your Audi didn't have the Matrix headlights and mine is not four-wheel-drive. On a 370 mile Drive back home from Perth in Scotland maximum speed set at 65 mph in economy I managed 58.5 miles to the gallon I took a photograph of this absolutely incredible . Well if I had never driven a Mini, I probably would have gone for the Audi here, although like you sir, I'm no fan of the ipad on the dash. Happily I have owned a couple of Mini's and therefore, you can keep your Audi, it can't come anywhere near close to the fun factor the Mini gives. Just the thought of going for a drive puts a grin on my fave, and no Audi is ever gonna do that. Anyway must dash, I decided my good lady needed a lift to work today, so off to collect her......she doesn't finish for another hour but hey..there are country lanes calling!!!

For me it would be the Audi. It's the better sounding which is an important part of the experience, there's nothing exciting about a high-revving straight-four. The Mini dashboard looks a mess and I couldn't accept that red rim on the centre dial especially at night. I fully understand the Mini fun factor but I would think the Audi provides the more relaxing journey to Cornwall? No roof box on the Audi, either? But, hey, a very professional review and it can't be easy to choose which on to go out in unless the Mrs has the keys to one already. Happy Partly-Lifted Lockdown Driving!

Both are good on a long drive and I do put the roof box in the S4 every now and then. I know what you mean about the Mini dash 👍

Nice one Pete My Cooper S is auto but not sport box but when driven hard (as usually is) it really revs to red in every gear before changing up Kinda seems like you're over-reving but by God its fast and fun

Great video as always mate and just the comparison I was looking for. I thought the JCW exhaust would be a bit more lively, pops, etc than the Audi? Also, any idea if the exhaust note is that much better on the 306bhp compared the older 228bhp model?

Pete, glad to see restrictions lifting a bit and that you're able to exercise the cars. Interesting comparison, especially the minuscule weight delta between the two. To deal with your clean but dusty cars I have 2 words: California Duster.
