Glad to learn that 51c is about oil temp, since I knew that it’s indeed about the engine temp, but wondered where was the sensor. And, even if the coolant temp fluctuate a lot, 51c is rock solid on 90°.

Always keep it locked on 90! Thanks for the comment buddy!

Good video, well done on the graphics. I would like to add, these cars use "dummy" stepper motor gauges, which will display 90c on the dash while the coolant temp sensor (which 49c will display) reads an actual temperature of anything between around 80-100c.
@renedewael9703 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I think it’s more between 85/95, but anyway, I have read that this average reading is designed to not frightning the driver, seeing the temp constantly moving up and down 😅

I already investigated about the coolant leak… on mine it’s just under the bumper at the right. And what’s above ? The auxiliary water pump! I noticed that it leaks only when I turn of the engine, I think it’s leaking from the hose not sure yet. PS: love your videos!👏🏻

Thanks, enjoyed that. 😊 In one of you vids you mention you might work on your rear subframe at some point. During this refurb, I found the rear headlamp levelling sensor and rod were virtually seized. Pricy parts too! Thought I’d warn you as I did not think about this item.
@andycharger3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the heads up Bob! Yes I only discovered there was one at the rear recently. I found the one at the front during my CV boot replacement video. It’s only of those parts that gets overlooked and it’s not built to take the weight of the subframe. If you leave it attached it tends to break from what I have heard. I still have that to do. It’s off to the garage today as it’s developed a rubbing or catching belt type noise since I had the timing belt replaced and I want to make sure it is ok! Thanks for your feedback as always 👍

Quick update, if you use the hidden menu (49c) and you are getting a reading on the lcd saying -10 , and the dash temp gauge is not moving, your temp sensor is the thing that is faulty as it’s not giving a reading at all

Quick question for you dose the temp gauge on the dash send the signal to the ecu to tell the fans to start working with overheating as my dash sits at 90°c while the 49 code saying 112°c once its gets to 115°c then it will move just before the red then the fans kick in
@andycharger3 жыл бұрын
Hi Callum. I am not sure if the gauge is instructing the ECU but it does sound like it. Otherwise your fans would be on much earlier than 115 is my thought. Otherwise your coolant is just constantly boiling away. Your thermostat may be faulty or have you had your cluster looked at/repaired? This cluster seems to be a bit of an issue on Mk1s.
@MrTwoZZT2 жыл бұрын
The coolant temp sensor on the TT is a 4 wire type and I believe that there are 2 different temp readings output from it, one for the dash(G2) on pins a and b and one for the ECU (G62) on pins c and d.

@@MrTwoZZT thank you guys we changed the thermostat new genuine sensors temp an fan switch all running right now :)

@@MrTwoZZT thank you sir!
@renedewael9703 Жыл бұрын
@@MrTwoZZT Correct ! And moreover, the reading on the climatronic depend of the cluster temps. Unless the gauge motor begin to fail, it will be the same reading. A good thing to compare with the infos sended to the ecu is to connect an OBD real time scan, and monitor the temp. I do that with a car scanner on my phone, the readings are not the same, so I tend to suspect a bad temp sensor, an aftermarket one :/

Hi mate, 49 shows as 80 when car gauge reads over 100. Would this mean dash is faulty?
@andycharger2 жыл бұрын
May well be. How is your instrument cluster in general? Might be worth getting that looked at 👍
