My suspension route started in April 2020 to fully change from 18 year stock 225 Quattro to bilstein B14 however the supplier (ECP) failed to honour my order kept my money eventually PayPal refunded. I now have decided to go the bilstein B4 route (6 week delivery) and very happy. Lesson always have a plan B.

That’s very annoying. I’ve found over the years that anything car related when it comes to ordering parts no one ever seems to have it in stock, takes ages for delivery and there is always a hold up. The b4 shocks like I said in the video are a great option if your not planning on rallying that car 24/7 and they are made by a quality brand almost as old as audi is 👌🏻. I'm running 40mm lower springs Bilston shocks on my Mk1 TT the front is actually 50mm due to 10mm knocked of the pollys on the top mount front tyre wear is fine but I'm running the inside of the rears but done 6000mile cheep tyres can't complain

I definitely find them comfortable, but I'm trying to get used to it because I bought my car with Koni coilovers in 2010. On your Springs only line up. I'm shock that you don't have Neuspeed Springs in the line up. My mechanic swear by them and he is a car enthusiast plus mechanic. I too, would have welcomed a Parrott bros. vote of confidence on Neuspeed springs. Neuspeed is located in California and claim the springs are made in Germany from the highest quality material. I think this product is available in France and I am surprised they would not want to be present in the well known UK TT mk1 enthusiasts market.

Nice vid, mate. I already switched to a Bilstein B12 some months ago. My intention was to improve the handling and make the 18" wheels look more harmonic with the car by lowering it slightly. My budget was limited too. Moreover, driving through potholes has always been a pain, although the original shocks were not that old (~67000 km). It just felt like the hole car would break into pieces any moment. Later it turned out that they had no gas pressure left... 🤔 Since genuine S-Line shocks and springs were no option cost / benefit wise I went for the B12 because I heard that Eibach springs are much better in terms of comfort than H&R for example. Also I found a shop where it was available for 600€ (£ 545). Quite cheap imo. :) It's an FWD by the way. Fitting the front shocks without a lifting platform wasn't easy for somebody who has never done that before BUT it was absolutely worth it! Of course the car is not 'low' now... Looks decent though and handling as well as comfort are better than before. Mission accomplished! In Germany we say 'it's lying like a plank on the road'. 😁

Funny that all the gas had gone from the shocks, was it a 1 careful owner car by any chance haha never raced or rallied. Your right the b12 kit had been proven as a nice mix between performance and comfort. There is a few little tricks that make the job easier to release the shock from the hub but still not a super easy job for someone who’s not done before. Thanks for watching and commenting

I am thinking about pulling the trigger on some new shocks for an APX 225 2000 TT. Everything on the car is original, the shocks, control arm bushings, etc, it's really worn and loose feeling in the steering. Almost everything is in need of replacing. I am struggling to make a decision which to buy, or even if I should bother restoring the TT, and maybe buy another car altogether. I wouldn't really want to lower it a lot, maybe just 25mm. I'd prefer comfort over sport. I can't decide what to do >___

It all’s expends if your planning on keeping it long term, if you decide your keeping it long term then refreshing all bushes for stock replacements you will notice a good difference, the Eibach pro kit springs offer a mild drop without affecting the comfort too much. I weigh nearly 15 stone and when I open the tailgate and bounce my weight up and down there's no movement at all. Is that normal ? Or has it seized up. Front very similar if I try a bounce test there no movement. Last MOT advised rear shock tops very corroded. Stock springs can be very stiff, odd that you have very little movement when pushing down. I would give the shocks a visual, if they look corroded and rusty chances are they are past there cell by date. You can always take one off and compress it and see if it pushes back out. A new set of bilstein b4’s and Eibach springs will give you a subtle drop and better handling without leaving eating beans for a year ;)

love your channel, great input for my 8n fwd, love the car, comfort is reasonable even on 18inch wheels, but i really hate the constant understeer, do you have any recommondations to reduce understeer and improve cornering? i dont necessarily need to lower the car, more like better mechanical grip on the front. Have to admit, i should properbly look into decent tires, cause mine are freaking old tbh
@TheParrottBros

Funny you should say that, rubber is the most important part of it, get your self some good tyres like Michelin PS4’s that transformed my s4. Had Pirelli’s on it before and they were awful. You can also look at changing anti roll bars to more the feel around, loads of options available but easiest place to start is tyres haha :)

Yeah 18's on a tt are fine, you can run 18' Wheels, wheel spacers and weitec are a known brand so depending on your country they may be one of the better ones available

My suspension is original 170. 000 km (which I will change asap) do you think is a good purchase the black top mounts from power flex? Cheers!!

The black ones are very very firm and are for track / racing use. Most go for the purple ones. To be fair if your fitting Coilovers won’t make a massive difference

I ordered 40mm springs yesterday as was reading that is as low as you can go without needing to replace arms etc. Now having done a bit of research it seems replacing the arms with adjustables is pretty much a must?! My car is pre facelift which was higher ride height by 20mm from what I've seen, so surely lowering by 40mm would only be the equivalent of a facelift car being lowered by 20mm? I really don't want to have to fork out £200+ for new arms!
@TheParrottBros
@TheParrottBros 2 жыл бұрын
It all depends on the rear wheel camber, they are meant to have a certain amount, all it means is youll have less surface area of tyre on the floor so less grip and more inner tyre wear, see the link attached for what it should be dependant on height from floor www.ttforum.co.uk/threads/rear-camber-setting-when-lowered.426114/

@TheParrottBros
@TheParrottBros 2 жыл бұрын
It all depends what your after, uprated shocks would be beneficial as lowering springs on old stock shocks will reduce the remaining life of the shocks and be bouncy. Uprated shocks, front wishbone poly bushes increase steering feel, you could get adjustable control arms but probably not needed with a 25mm drop

steam buns most will fit straight on, the only thing with coil overs is like I say in the video, the spring comes down lower therefore the straw is wider at the bottom so you may need spaces for the wheels to clear on the inside. You may need to do a test fit or offer it up and have a look. Also when they check your top mounts I would recommend replacing them if you’re fitting new suspension

Main thing is to check all bushes while your there, make sure nothing is on its way out. As fitting lowering springs may help old bushes fail prematurely. Upgrade your top mounts on the front to poly bush will add some feel,
