Hi, I have an iD22 and this month, I'm hoping to expand it with the ASP 880. My project studio is all home-based, so I'm forced to be mobile if I want to record a band, then there is the question of providing headphone cue mixes for the performers. In this vid, you touched upon the low latency features of the drivers, and, there is a further facility that allows ultra-low latency when using cue mixes and the routing matrix options available within the iD app, which bypass the DAW. Now, not being gifted technically (I have contacted audient to get some clarification) I've found following the process for low latency cue mixes, still a little confusing. It's a big ask, but would you please consider doing a video on this aspect of the iD app's functionality?

You've almost sold me on it! I was thinking about going with the Focusrite 6i6. I need 4 outputs (sending to tape, reamping eventually as well probably). The price is a little higher than I was expecting but it seems like the quality is there. The control room/monitor volume section is a really nice feature and those sends would be incredibly handy further down the line. I wish it had two more inputs though but I guess that's where the 44 comes in.

I'm late to the party, but I think I'm becoming an Audient guy as well. The preamps sound SO good compared to other much more expensive pieces and the features are flexible enough that you can integrate any outboard gear you've collected. ALL HAIL AUDIENT!!!

Good vid. I really appreciate your comparison using the insert jacks vs the line input jacks when comparing external sources. I can hear the difference. However in your test did you use TRS jacks going into the line inputs? If so perhaps the loss of punch you are hearing is due in part that you went through the balancing transformer. I wonder if a simple unbalanced cable would yield better results. I just purchased am id14. I am worried about being able to use my external preamps as I do not have insert points. I wasn't worried until I saw your vid. Lol. Thoughts? I have 29 days where I can return for an id22

Hi Adam great video, thanks. In this instance are you saying that it would be better off to use the iD22's in-built DI compared to a separate DI box? Like you say in the video, I can definitely hear more clarity with the in-built DI compared to the Groove Tubes DI box.
@adamsteelproducer
@adamsteelproducer 6 жыл бұрын
Hi Roger! It’s a tough one for sure, I almost always recommend a separate DI box for several reasons, including electrical isolation (less chance for interference noise) and a loop output, but in this case the iD22’s own DI really did stand up to the test. My Groove Tubes DI has its own flavour (and apparently there’s a mod to improve it) but until now no inbuilt DI on any interface I’ve used has come close in terms of quality. The iD22 has me impressed.

Opinions on the AKM converters vs. the Burr Brown converters?
@adamsteelproducer
@adamsteelproducer 3 жыл бұрын
They’re both converters. The circuit designed around the chip has far more bearing on the results so I’m not bothered, and also in my experience directly switching chips gives completely negligible results
@ricardoprieto6401
@ricardoprieto6401 3 жыл бұрын
I have both the ID22 and ID44. They both sound extremely different due to their converters. AKM and Cirrus on ID44 and Burr Brown on ID22. The 22 sounds very bright, crystal clear and LOUD. It’s very punchy with plenty of low end. My 44 sounds very dark and thin in comparison. With the preamp volume on max gain the 44 doesn’t sound nearly as loud as the 22. Some people prefer dark, others prefer bright. I also have a Grace design M101 microphone preamp and the ID22 comes very close to that level of clarity and quality while the 44 is nowhere near it. The ID44 does have slightly lower preamp noise floor when cranked but that’s only because its nowhere near as loud as the 22.. By the way, the headphone amplifier sucks on both devices when tracking vocals. Very weak output.

Hi! I think the iD22 is a great pairing with the ML1, but for the ultimate combo you can use the VMS preamp into the return of one of the iD22 channels (straight to the converters). Just want to make potential buyers aware of that the ID22 has a known issue with the PSU that that's putting a high risk for overheat and eventually failure. Audient will not compensate if the unit fails after warranty. Mine failed after about three years and had to be sent to repairs for 180 € + shipping. The ID22 is a great sounding desktopinterface with neat features but it will potentially fail and Audient will turn a blind eye when requesting help for this well known issue. Over and out.

Solid, enlightening review, once again (I watched your iD44 overview just before this). This is an interface that's caught my eye as I research a more current, higher quality set of features for a new interface purchase. I'm also looking at the Focusrite and Presonus products that are in the relatively same financial ballpark as well. One difference I noted between the 22 and 44, unless I'm mistaken, which would't be the first time 😵, is that your voice sounded clearer through the 44's pres. The 22 sounded a bit "muffled," for lack of a better expression. This sent up a bit of a red flag as the pre-amp for the singing voice is the most important feature for me in a recording interface. (Price in the US is $500.)

@adamsteelproducer
@adamsteelproducer 6 жыл бұрын
That’s quite a tricky sounding setup, but it might be possible, just not in the way you’re thinking. The send/return loop is straight after the mic preamps so is off the table here. You might be able to use input 1 for guitar, line up your VSTs, send the audio out of output 3 into your delay pedal then back into input 2. Convoluted but it would work!

Just throw away the ID 22. Absolute rubbish. Here's my experience with it: 1st of all master 1 & 2 stopped to work. Thomann took it back to repair but it took 2 months. when I got it back I had no 48v phantom on one channel. I decided to keep it cause I couldn't afford to be without it. Eventually I have witnessed Audio drop outs, no phantom power on any channel, and it wont work at all when connected to my laptop, and it will only work on my desktop with a specific cable. Support with Audient was positive until the warranty ran out. Shocking bad product.
