To throw off the investigation - the candidate stages it to look like the gunman intended to kill the candidate himself, but mistakenly killed his campaign manager instead.

It's great to be able to hear the classic Columbo stories. The 'Prescription murder' is equally good. My partner doesn't like me reading next to her in bed when she's trying to get to sleep. I put in earphones and listen instead. I love audio books and dramas. I always like the way Columbo acts like something is an afterthought, ''Just one more thing'' . Classic!

Thank you very much for the link. I just had a quick peek and it's definately my kind of thing. I like Law & order but have never seen LA Dragnet. I lived in the US as a kid in the 70's and they used to show the old original Dragnet episodes. I got some on DVD as I find it hilarious. People in England don't have a clue about 'Gilligans Island' or 'The Brady Bunch'(except for the modern film). Moving to England and finding there were only 3 tv channels was a serious shock. DUDE - KEITH! I'm honoured; thanks man. I think this programme, *_Candidate for Crime,_* was my second such audio project(?) You'll notice I removed Larry Storch's cameo and the DMV Safety Inspector, and i took a few liberties with his encounter at the gas station. Shhh. Don't tell! ;-) I love Storch - but his scene was too difficult to convey in narration. LoL. Truth be known - or was a little far fetched on TV and darn near impossible (at least for me) to narrate in a way that would sound believable. Wherever Mr Storch is - respectfully, I hope he'll understand! If all goes well, our next programme is due out this Labor Day / 5 Sept. 2022. Personally I enjoy them all, and I think this one ("Candidate") is my favourite. You'll notice I took some liberties where Columbo gasses up his car. SABINE!! My friend from the other side of the world! Hope you're well amiga! of the dozen or so audio dramas i've done - this is my personal favourite. If you've recently "SEEN" this episode, you might have noticed I took some liberties with the plot. ;-) FUN FACT! (at 26:02 on the timeline) - Columbo's at his Dentist & they're listening to opera music. The TV SCENE begins in the middle of the opera RIGOLETTO - which is in the original TV soundtrack, so I could not remove this music. Immediately *BEFORE* this Dentist scene (25:25 on the timeline) - for my narration I used my own copy of RIGOLETTO as background music as I narrate that "Columbo is at his dentists office in Santa Monica, and yadda, yadda, yadda....") i "synched up" "MY RIGOLETTO" with the "TV RIGOLETTO" in the TV soundtrack, and the illusion is just one fluid transition (we hope "transparent"). :)

It's been a while since I have actually seen a Columbo episode. But why would you want to remove the music? Beautiful opera and clever you for editing in the extra. All adds to the listening pleasure. Its the middle of the night and I shall now listen to another of your contributions. Will comment later.

Ooops! You're totally correct about Rigoletto. Beautiful music, & I'd never remove it. I did say that - but (tired) that wasn't really what I meant. My bad! A better way to say it is "even if I'd wanted to, i couldn't remove it." Even though you've not seen it recently, you might recall the scene in which Columbo gets stopped randomly by Calif. Highway Patrol for a vehicle maintenance inspection. Of course, his Peugeot 403 convertible fails and they give him a citation to get it fixed. He takes his car to a mechanic, and while the mechanic's working on his car, Columbo borrows his tow-truck so he can scan the roads around Hayward's beach house. (Really....?) Profound respect to COLUMBO whose writers can do no wrong - *on VIDEO.* But as *AUDIO DRAMA,* this part of the story was just too wildly unbelievable. No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't narrate this and keep it believable. I just couldn't include this, so instead - in this audio drama, i have Columbo pump his gas, & only then realise he forgot his cash so instead pays by check.

As always, you paint beautiful word pictures and improvise where necessary, not at all detracting from the story line. Have now listened to a few of your Columbo adaptations and find them more enjoyable than having to sit and watch. I am now able to indulge and do something else at the same time, so no need to feel guilty for being idle. Great.

I LOVE that episode. I love Johnny Cash almost as much as I love Columbo. But here's the problem: I cannot stand to see Johnny Cash get arrested ("again"). This is the same reason I cannot do that wonderful Ruth Gordon episode where she locks the guy in the vault. I LOVE RUTH GORDON so much that I can't do an episode where she's the villain! (though I would guess both Ruth and Johnny Cash LOVED their parts as villains). PLEASE Don't hate me for being beautiful! ;-) My wife wanted the Ruth Gordon episode, and only recently has she started speaking to me again. LOL. Don't know if you got the message - but there are at least two feature-length programmes on my personal site which are 'NOT' here on KZbin (NBC Universal said "NO DICE"). Right on, Bobbie! I think this is my favourite too. I did take a few liberties in removing the CHP inspection checkpoint. It might work "visually" - but in terms of narration - as a writer - I just couldn't verbally *_explain_* that scene nearly as well as Irv Perlberg & Irv Pearlberg and Alvin Friedman wrote it. Probably why Columbo is such an amazing experience all 'round.

Hiya Pearl! "THE FORGOTTEN LADY". Very perceptive of you! I'd not noticed that. As you probably know - that music was part of the original TV sound track. But SOME of the music - I put in myself. Since you like the music aspects - I hope you'll check out (approximately) 26:02 where Columbo is at his dentist. At 26:02 you hear the opera RIGOLETTO in the background. RIGOLETTO is part of the original TV soundtrack (I didn't put that in; it was already there). . But BEFORE THAT, at 25:25 as I begin narrating, you can hear RIGOLETTO Before. That part of Rigoletto I put in, and SYNCHed it so it would match the Rigoletto in the TV show. That way from my narration - into the dental scene - the Rigoletto is steady & continuous. Fun! :)

Hey Frank! First - the short answer: "the garage sequence" wasn't believable. Lengthy answer, and I've been wanting to talk about this for a long time. Please read as much or as little as you deem appropriate. Nearly all of my answer is rooted in my personal opinion / not gospel. ANSWER: As the producer of this audio, my goal is to take you out of the real world, and transport you back to 1973 L.A. As with all the best story telling - Columbo DOES require some "suspension of disbelief". Some of the stuff is just too unbelievable. Now if we "WATCH"" it on video - this is not an issue because our eyes never lie. Spock using the Vulcan nerve pinch, Luke blowing up the Death Star, Indiana Jones jumping from horse to truck, you name it. If we "see" it happen, our mind registers as "this must be true." * H O W E V E R " . . . . With "AUDIO DRAMA" - it''s very different because your eyes are not involved. Instead you must trust me - a stranger you've never met before. If you cannot trust me, then your experience of the audio drama fails, and suddenly you come crashing back to reality. As I was WRITING my narration for the garage scene, I just couldn't find a believable way to write that a young, long-haired garage mechanic (presumably a pot-smoker) would lend his tow truck to the fuzz. I also couldn't find a believable way to say that he would take a personal check for so much money. Mr. Newberry, I read and enjoyed your complete explanation. Indeed, some of the plots and denouements are a bit hokey and not quite up to snuff. It's funny that you mentioned the loan of the truck because I have watched that episode many times and that same question was always there in back of my mind. That and the 'counter cheque'... Although I still smile at 'Are you undercover or something?' 'I'm underpaid'. There are several episodes ending with 'evidence' or entrapments that would be destroyed by a skilled attorney. At the end of the day, Columbo appeals to me largely due to Falk's artistry and the complementary characters and recurring actors. These shows are fun and strangely wholesome compared to much of more modern fare. And with that statement, I suspect I have given away my relative age. Indeed, your narration gives one a new perspective on many scenes and actions of the participants. What you do is a labor of love and I'm sure brings to many people the same enjoyment I get. "Undercover?","Underpaid" - notice THAT part, I was sure to leave in! I love that one too. :) Falk's artistry - ABSOLUTELY!! Humble, self-deprecating, and unlike Tom Selleck or Sean Connery - Columbo was a sort of "every man" with whom we mortals could all identify. Wholesome - YES, absolutely - and that's one of the things I look for when I choose an episode. 1. It has to be family-friendly. 2. The good guys need to win. 3. Has to have at least one especially fun / funny line. Also - in each audio - there's one "especially rich" segment - usually requiring extra research or fancy editing on my part. "the Vulcan from star wars". LOL - I love Leonard Nimoy, but No! *LEONARD NIMOY* isn't in this Columbo. However - Leonard Nimoy *_was_* in another Columbo. I think Nimoy played an evil surgeon in *COLUMBO: Stitch In Crime*.
