I love this series but, to me, the biggest takeaways are probably understanding the intention of what we are trying to achieve (I'm guilty of playing with the tools to try to get a 'good sound') and the symbiosis (listening to the effect of actions on the mix and other elements of the mix). A really great, enjoyable series. Thank you 🙂

Enrique, I’m absolutely loving your tutorials. Compression is by far the most difficult area of mixing to master and this really is a great explanation along with all the other tutorials in this series. Thanks very much!

theres always a huge difference between pre and post compression, you naturally want the compressor to compliment and regulate changes that needed to happen up to that point.

Thanks for this wonderful series! I noticed that this episode seemed to have a lot less to cover than the one about EQ, where there were extensive moves made across many tracks in the mix, while fewer moves were being made with compression. Does that reflect the relative importance of EQ and compression in the mixing process? Or more that the tracks for this song were recorded with a lot of great compressors on the front end, leaving less need for compression in mixing?

What is the difference between when He uses the Compressor from Nuetron and when he uses the Compressor from Ozone? I am sorry about the question.

is it just me or does the youtube compression make it hard to hear the compression comparisons on this video?

It's probably you, this video is just compress by 0.2db by KZbin. Compression can be really subtle when use on one element, but it's the addition of every little detail that makes the big picture. iZotope got some ear training exercices on their website, with different thing like subtle EQ and comp training, to teach you ear how (and what) to listen. It's kind of a long process, like going to the gym, but those skill will developpe more and more if you take the time. (also it could be your listening system/environement that make it hard to hear those differences)
