Great tutorials !!! You ARE my new hero ! Funny that at 1:41 as you describe ‘amplitude’ a car horn outside gives us a real world example of volume !!! 😊

found myself watching the whole thing so far - even though I already knew all this. that's how good the teaching is. Can't wait for actual examples of 'best practice' on different signals with different compressors, but I hear it's coming

This is brilliant, I don't have a clue when it comes to compressing and stuff, I kind of play around until I like the sound without knowing what the hell i'm actually doing. This is great. Many videos on this topic gloss over terms that beginners like myself do not know. Keep uploading please.

Seems obvious that basic audio concept tutorials for compressors and the like would have been done many times - though I can't think of any. Certainly not as well broken down as this. Yet again we're indebted to Dancetech

just wow, to be honest, you are the best teacher ever. I watched too many videos about compressors but any of them could help me realize the topic thoroughly. Appreciate it. By the way, your snare sounds awesome =)).

+Todd Laskowicz yeah, more to come, but we just had a huge office cleanout and the imac broke and has to go for repair, so a bit of a delay.

DAMN... i finally understand why some instrument require faster attack and release than others... this is so well presented! However, those same settings can be used to affect tone and position (in your face, or far away) if i'm not mistaking. So if i get it, the comp will always affect the amplitude whether you work on the tone or the position of a track, but then the make up gain brings it (amp) back to a sustain level that matches the overall mi, is that right? My next question would be: if the previous paragraph is correct, how can you affect tone without messing up the amp of a track using a compressor? is that actually possible? this channel is the truth!!!

Very good and informative - you are the first person to properly explain ADSR envelopes - thank you I've got a Scarlett 2i2 audio interface - is it any use downloading that Focusrite compressor or are the ones in Logic pro better?

I really have a clearer visual of attack and release (the envelope) now. I’m curious to see when to use shorter or longer times. It appears that longer release times must compress the signal while it is under the threshold.

Ahhhh so the first hit of the note or clip doesn't always get affected by the compressor, because that is not always the highest peak of the transient. Makes sense
