Now this is the best recording of the 93’s I’ve ever heard. Clear and you can hear every gear. I can just remember sitting in the first seat watching the driver turn that big wheel with the one finger

It's nice to hear more recordings of these long gone buses. I sadly never got to ride MDT back then, but I'm glad I saw these buses at all. Thanks for posting.

With what I'm seen these days, These old recordings bring a smile to my face. I do film today's newer city buses, coaches and school buses but is not the same. I don't find them as exiting as most of the different brands that used to be around. Most of today's city buses are all the same platforms with different parts here and there added to them to make them look different and sadly is just plain boring. Don't matter the manufacturer.

@@MarcosAR You have no idea how right you are. I'm so glad Lynx had a foresight to retain one Phantom, even though it uses an ISL engine, it's an older high floor bus that is now 14 years old. Although I wish they had picked up the 1996 Phantom that Gainesville had. They still have Ex-Palm Tran units from 2000/2001.

I miss riding on the flixibles
@MarcosAR6 жыл бұрын
Me too. Back in the days the Flxibles and the MC-9's were my joy rides. If I had a bad day, a ride on couple of Flxibles or MC-9 would take care of that.

I miss driving them. They were quite fun and I rarely had a bad day while behind the wheel of one.

@@knightclassic1 Same in Miami in the 90s and early 00s. I was a young kid in the 90s and I remember begging my mom and dad to take me on these buses. The fare back then I remember was 60 cents for minors and 85 cents for adults.

I miss those loud engines. When they were repowered, the new engines were a little less loud but still screamers.

1994 was a great time to ride buses in Miami. The golden years.

First gear has an interesting sound tbh. I've never heard a C8.3/Voith in a Flx before.
@MarcosAR4 жыл бұрын
Lol. I never heard of the Cummins C 8.3L engines until these arrive. Shortly after I learned these engines were regular on rear engine school buses and Gillig Phantom transit buses but I knew them as the Cummins 6CTA not knowing at the time that it was the same engine. After I got used to the C 8.3L / Voith combo, I went to New Jersey to record the 1980,81 NJT Grumman Flxibles, I also saw the 1993 Flxibles with the same engines but to my surprise with ZF transmissions. To me that was rare. BTW you should have seen my reaction the first time I heard a Series 50 engine, never heard of it before. It was MDT bus 9371. At the time I thought it was a C8.3 engine that just went bad.

@@MarcosAR Makes sense. I think the C8.3 didn't start popping up in transit buses until about 1992 or 1993, but you're spot on about it being in schoolies. The 1991 Thomas's I rode as a kid actually had C8.3's and I never knew until I was an adult lol. The 6CTA name makes sense since it was 6cyl, C-Series block, Turbo, Aftercooled. The 1993-1997 Gillig Phantoms had the model "6CT" in their name too. I agree the C8.3/ZF seems kind of unique. Even the ISC/ZF is a little uncommon too. I wish I could have seen your reaction lol. That's hilarious.

I love your classic sound recordings. Do you still have recordings of any GMC RTS buses you have not uploaded yet? Great video.
@MarcosAR6 жыл бұрын
Yes most of them are the MDT 1980 RTS's with the 6V-92TA engines and maybe two or three of the San Antonio VIA 1977 GMC RTS 8201's with the 8V-71N engines that I haven't uploaded yet but I'll have to check on that. This is mostly do to lack of pictures.
