A great turntable. I’ve upgraded the stylus to the red one (£130 microline one) and it sounds fantastic. Although the stock green stylus is still great. Believe all the numerous reviews about this turntable and ignore the occasional hi-fi snobs who are distrustful of anything at this price.

Great video and production quality! Could you possibly make a video on upgrades for the lp120x. I'm interested in what different mats would do (acrylic, cork, etc.) as well as the cartridge, preamp, and other factors. Also how would you say this compares when it comes to DJing vs the Technics?

@robsemail3 жыл бұрын
I’m a former long-time club deejay, and I bought two of this turntable’s bigger brothers, the AT-140XP. The only thing I regret is having said, in comments on another video, that I could not ride the pitch on these tables like I used to do back in the last century on my Tech 12s (doing a long mix without need to manually maintain speed). I need to correct that now, because it turns out the problem was just one of familiarity. As my memory has it, my old 1200 mk2s had slightly less torque, and apparently that affects the “feel” of the pitch adjustments. So it just took some getting used to. The AT-LP140XP is a superb turntable, about as good as my old Technics’ but perhaps - time will tell - not as durable. Although the build-quality is quite good, these don’t feel quite as top-of-the-line as did the Mk2s. If you’re a serious deejay, I would definitely recommend spending the extra cash for the 140 over the AT-LP120X as your entry-level model. If you play your music loud, you’ll appreciate the dampened platter, and also the more deejay-friendly cartridge that comes with it. If you just want a simple setup for cueing and playing records continuously, radio-style, the 120s are fine. If you’re using them in any kind of club or large public area, definitely get some good-quality external preamps and use the phone-out jacks. The built-in preamps don’t handle heavy bass well, from what I understand. The 120s are actually an excellent choice for new deejays in one respect: the torque of the direct-drive motor is rather weak, which will require you to develop a super-light touch if you mix or scratch. That light touch will serve you very well later on when you upgrade to higher-torque tables, and it’s worth noting that the Technics SL1200-Mk2s had lower torque than most of the superOEM tables available today.

They know if they can appeal to the masses, not only will they get more views on the video, but they'll be getting a higher number of subscribers as well. Hey Mike, the buttons, apart from use as a gimmicky DJ tool, this option is useful for dedicated 78 users who know that 78rpm discs rarely run exactly at 78rpm. Different record labels cut their discs at different speeds. For example, British-made Columbias tended to be recorded at a speed between 78 and 81rpm, those made in America often played correctly at 76 or 77rpm :)

Hi Buddy, no problem. Once you have adjusted the counterweight so that the arm "floats" you then turn the front dial only to zero, making sure you don't turn the counterweight. you can then turn the counterweight so that the dial is then on 2 (this is if you are using the standard cartridge supplied) I hope this makes sense. The SL-1200 isn't just a higher end turntable. It's the father to all SL-1200 imitation direct drive turntables. Especially considering the original 1979 mark II design is the same design that Technics stuck with over all these years. So I would preface that as the very reason for the very existence of all other imitation turntables made by audio technica, stanton, numark, reloop, gemini, etc. etc. They're all cheaply made hollowed out plastic turntables where manufacturers cut corners left and right. @@TechUnboxedWithDan Is it possible that it (stylus?) just needs time to break in and find it's groove and sound? It seems to be sounding better the more I listen.

@@TechUnboxedWithDan there's so many. For example a Yamaha yp701. Was top of the line at time of manufacturing. One on eBay now for $145. Pretty much any 70's and 80's Japanese if it's over 8 kilos in weight. Used planar 1 or 2. Even a 60's elac is far superior. Tons of sixties gear, equipped with a New cartridge will slay it. I bought a VPI plinth Denon dp75 with a Syrinx arm for $250 US a true giant killer. weighs 25 kilos. Far superior to a real Tecnics 1200 any day. (Technics have lame arms, really no comparison) Literally any day there's a thousand better tables on ebay for $250 or less. Kick that up to $500-$750 and you can get a fantastic table. Why would you even want Chinese junk built by slave labor? Be responsible. Recycle for the win!

@@hip360hop I bought my vpi locally. Far better deals are available locally on Craigslist or facebook than prices on ebay. You'll pay more on ebay but still better deals than Chinese junk.
