I think the AspenMics HQ-S performed the best. The second best was the Rode SmartLav+, and third place was the Sennheiser ME-2. I think the Sennheiser was a little loud.

I have a Sony a6500, and I am filming interviews. Among the three mics, which one would you most recommend? Also, do I NEED to have a zoom recorder? or can I just plug it directly into my camera?

Hi. Recently found your channel and love the content, energy and humor that you put in those videos. Regards from Brazil! Quick question: when using lav mic, how do you set it up to get the crispy/clear sound? I got a sony lav system and been fighting with it to get that kind of sound, but i've been getting some sort of stuffed weird sound out of it and i have to use dehummer to make it a little better in post. Halp? Thanks in advance!

Super beginner here-- I understand that you can plug Lav mics direct into your camera. But if you want to Mic multiple people at one time, what are the best ways to capture that sound? You'd need something external right? And then how do you get those to sync up in the editing room? Love your content! Please keep it going!
@SidneyDiongzon
@SidneyDiongzon 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, you'll have to use an audio recorder like the Zoom H5 to record multiple people. It's easy to sync in post. Using Premiere Pro, just put the video and audio on the same timeline, highlight them, right click, and select Synchronize Audio. Done!

Dude im really digging your videos. Had a couple questions for you. Do you color grade these videos or use straight out of camera standard profiles? Also what are you using to light your videos. Love the aesthetic.
@SidneyDiongzon
@SidneyDiongzon 7 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, I really appreciate it! Yes, I do color grade my videos with my own FILM JOURNAL LUTs (link in video description). And I use a diva ring light with a pillow over it. It's the only light I have right now, so I just made it work with stuff laying around my house, LOL. Hope this helps, and thank you for watching!
@TausifHussain
@TausifHussain 7 жыл бұрын
no way! so even your talking head shots are graded? Thats effort. Good job man. I want to do that for my videos as well, but color correcting and then grading is effort lol. And with 2 kids, a full time job, and a business, trying to work on this passion of video creation is already tough as it is 😂😂
@SidneyDiongzon
@SidneyDiongzon 7 жыл бұрын
+Tausif Hussain There's a little hack that I do that speeds up the color grading process, and that's by using an adjustment layer. All you have to do is add an adjustment layer over one of the clips, then do you grading on the adjustment later, then place that adjustment layer over the clips with the same scene! So for example, the same adjustment layer is placed over every monologue scene that I'm in. This hack saves hours of time! And I'm in the same boat too...full-time job, kids, and business, so I totally empathize with you! Hopefully this tips helps you out man! Thanks for watching too!!
@TausifHussain
@TausifHussain 7 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the quick replies brother. I use FCPX so i think i'd have to approach that slightly different. May have to play around with compounding clips etc. Glad to know someone else is going through the same grind like myself haha! You've got a good lineup of 95 videos! I only have about 10 up right now and my growth is slowly starting to pick up. Just about to hit my 1000 subs so pretty stoked! You're getting damn close to that 10K bro. Keep at it. Want to see us both succeed. Love your content and would love meeting/working with you too. If you're ever in Toronto give me a shout! I got you covered haha.

I have a Sony recorder and a Lav mic, but even in very quiet environment it catches ambient sounds a lot, even when they are subtle, and amplify them quite significantly, even if my recorder is set on low sensitivity, and no auto sensitivity adjustments. Is there something to do about this, or should I keep interviewing people in the most quiet room I can get (which is often not possible)?
@SidneyDiongzon
@SidneyDiongzon 5 жыл бұрын
That may be due to the preamps of the audio recorder. Try lowering the audio record level of the recorder, while increasing the gain of the mic if that’s an option

Hi Sidney. First time watching your video, just stumbled across your channel. I must say, creative intro and your style is very laid back and fresh. I wouldn't be surprised if you hit 100K within the next couple of months. Just wondering what mic you used to record this video with? It was extremely clear, I am definitely interested in purchasing one for my channels. Also, what camera and lens were you using? I recently purchased the Canon 80D with a kit lens, but I am not very happy with the video quality the lens is putting out. Keep up the great work.

I have a course and I interview guests, I want to film the complete picture (me and the guest) and in the post production make cuts only on me and the guest as if I had 3 cameras. +楓 Productions Timing seemed to be perfect, lol! As far as vlogging mic, I would recommend the Rode VideoMic Pro for sure! Affordable and captures great audio! And as far as the other question goes, shotgun mics will always produce better audio results than lav mics. But with good tweaking in post, you can make a lav mic sound just as good as a shotgun mic. That's gong to be my next video by the way, so stayed tuned next week! Hope this helps!

Really useful tips! I have a smartLav+ too that I use with my iPhone 7, do you use any particular settings on Rode Rec and/or recommend some post production tips? I always experience low volume and what I usually do is normalize the audio, remove noise and then raise the volume being careful of eventual echo (all with Adobe Audition) but I am still not convinced about audio quality, the voice is not as warm as I would. Thanks in advance! 😊

Thanks! Do you use the RodeRec app? As far as editing audio in Audition, have you tried using Multi-band compressor? I always use that to get healthy audio levels, then I EQ, then raise the volume if I need to. Let me know how it goes for you!

Hey love the video!! I’m confused as to how exactly the lavalier mics work. Do you record the audio and then sync it up later? Or hook something to your camera’s input? Thanks love the channel!

Hi there, I have a 3.5mm Sony TS-125 lapel mic that works fine, but with the new digital audio recorder I have, it's distorted when recording loud concerts yet with my old Minidisc this wasn't an issue. What could I add in line to the mic -> recorder setup that would lower the volume by say 20%? I appreciate any feedback you may have.

Hi there, I know this video came out a while ago but I was wondering if you have tested a unique case with lavalier mics. Will the lavalier mics pick up T-shirt brushing noise or wind noise when walking outside. The use case I am thinking about in particular is vlogging on-the-go. I was also wondering if the lavalier mic can pick up audio from another person that is about 3-5 feet away?

If you place the lab right, you won't hear it. And it's not likely to pick up audio from another person at that distance. Hope this clarifies things!

I thought the Sennheiser had the best sound - slightly. But perhaps not enough better than the Aspen for the price.

Sidney Diongzon thanks! Do you have problems with your photoshop like lagging or crashing when you try to use the font? You know how in MAC the “font book” says there are errors. What can I do to validate the font or something I can do to use it.
