Good info. Finding the room modes for any given space is ideal. Harman has a free calculator But for the general population with a rectangular shape room, these are pretty proven. 2 subs: 1 at 1/4th and 3/4th front wall. 4 subs: 1 in each corner to take advantage or room gain for smaller subs. 1 at 1/4th and 3/4th front and back wall. Next level is REW and mini dsp but those placements will be great for general population

Hello Scott I have a question. I have an older Rotel rsp-1069 without the calibration feature but it does allow for manual adjustments as far as distance, speaker size and crossover levels. I recently purchased 2 more subwoofers, making 3 total. I have 2 sub outputs on the back of the Rotel so I am using a y adapter for the 2 on the right and left of the screen. But the third sub is placed close to the back of the room. The manual settings only allow for a single subwoofer adjustment. So the front 2 are roughly 17 feet from the listening position but the third is only seven feet. Should I connect the third subwoofer to the line in or the LFE sub input? Or does it make a difference? I don't want there to be a delayed response being that the third subwoofer is so close but miss calibrated at 17 ft. Hope this makes sense. Thank you

. It depends if the sub is audible or not. If it's audible, make sure it's playing a Mono signal, not just left or right channel but effectively both simultaneously and place it centered between the main L&R speakers with the sub's voice coil slightly ahead (further from the front wall & closer to the presumed listening position) of the tweeter's voice coil and with the sub's driver facing "out". If there is 2 audible subs, then use them as speaker stands for the L&R mains and again voice coils marginally "ahead". If there is 2 IN-audible subs (most LFE channels), than stack them centered between the main L&R speakers with the sub's voice coil slightly ahead. Acid Jazz, Funk & Brass 🔈🔉🔊

I have my subwoofers bolted to 15 inch heavy metal stands about 3 feet from the rear wall and 2 feet from the side walls. My small bookshelf full range speakers sit on top of the woofers with a combination of rubber feet and metal cones. This stops vibration from affecting the main speakers. My room is 90 percent absorbent with the ceiling being the only reflective surface. Some good advise in this video, but I disagree regarding two subs at the front corners. This will result in uneven coverage that can’t be corrected out with fancy software.
