I ordered from blue jeans four times from interconnects to speaker cables, and every time their product delivered great sound for me. And their shipping was lightning fast.

How do the octoquad cables compare to the iconoclast cable and BAV 1313A cable?
@MichaelAmster11 ай бұрын
Interested in some of their power cable. Already using them between my 8 channels of amp and my Linkwitz ASP 2.0. Over time I will rewire with their XLR interconnects - probably need a few pair of those.
@LuxAudio38911 ай бұрын
Wise choice. I use their XLR cables in my hometheater and they are phenomenal.
@JingoLoBa5711 ай бұрын
Yes going all XLR in an HT system is costly and worth it too. One piece per channel,

With a formal education in electronics, FCC licensed to design and run TV stations, a decade in the Audio industry from on the bench repair to repping products like Marantz,... I was a cable denier. If the gage was big enough.... Then one of my audiophile sons started comparing cables against his Blue Jeans Star Quad speaker cables. He found Blue Jeans Belden 5000 series to be far better. Then my other audiophile son replaced his with BJ 10 White with noticeable improvement. So I replaced my BJ Star Quads with DYI shotgunned Monster cables. I measured a 4-5db increase in dynamic range. My amp ran measurably cooler, did not shut down as much...
@dougbulldog994711 ай бұрын
That's interesting, what gauge/model Monster cable are you using? My latest DIY 4 meter cables sound (& look) great, utilising 2 lengths of good quality 14awg OFC per channel, first I separated the 2 lengths of cables to get 4 individual wires, then I carefully hand braided the 4 wires together, before covering them with single braided black nylon sleeving. The clear clad copper braided wires are still visible through the single braided black tech flex, fora bit of suttle gold/copper bling, the ends are finished with cable pants and terminated with diy banana plugs made from 30mm lengths of 4mm pure copper tubing, crimped over the wire. I cut a slit along the last 10mm of copper tube, they fit snuggly into the binding posts. For my next experiment I'm going to try removing the nylon jacketing and replacing it with tfp plumbers tape for improved dialectics

If you want to understand what hooking an amp up to a speaker does to the sound of the speaker, rap on the woofer when the speaker is not connected. Then connect the amp and rap it again. The sound will be completely different. Now disconnect the amp, short out the speaker connectors at the speaker and rap it. It will be different again. That difference includes the wire. I used this as a demo of Damping Factor when I did seminars on audio.

One thing not mentioned is impedance matching. Some would suggest this is an important factor. The cable is after all part of the speaker system. Any thoughts here?
@bluejeanscable721411 ай бұрын
I believe this was mentioned in the video. The impedance of a cable varies across the frequency spectrum, so the design is used to flatten that curve.

That was really cool. Great guy. I mean he's got a pinball machine right? 😁 I own a couple of pairs of low capacitance RCA interconnects from them. And they're really good sounding cables IMHO. They look good too. And certainly didn't cost a lot. I'm into the speaker cables you're showing here. But down the road. I'm using long runs right now (like 23 ft long!). So maybe after I switch this around to a much shorter run I'll grab some. I'm not a big cable guy. But like you were saying. If I'm spending all this money on nice gear. It only makes sense to buy some decent cables to hook it all together. And that includes power cables too. Nothing too fancy, but solid stuff. In my case I'm using Pangea power cords. And for anyone looking for another nice alternative. World's Best Cables are really solid too. Amazon sells them. ✌️

Damn, that is quite the markup for them. You can get custom-made ones with dual 4S11G (the OFC version) for under $150. The only difference is soldered instead of welded. It took him two years to figure out he could put two cables together into 1? Yikes. I am sure they are nice but ground breaking they are not. You could also DIY these super cheap and easy. The only real value these add is the Sonic Weld Connections which may or may not be better than solder and a thicker gauge if you are not biwiring. You would probably be just as well off running 2 of the regular BJC 4s11 if bi-wiring.

You can always save money doing it yourself, but the connections are often the most important part. You can be your own engineer, doctor, lawyer too and not pay for people's expertise and experience if you want... But many are happy to.

Jason - what wire is B.J. offering for the Octoquads? B.J. has three options on their menu for their other cables - Canare, Mogami and Belden. I think they are using Belden here.

I'll ask but maybe you can check out my website link where I have better pics of the actual cable. I don't recall what he's using, but good question.

"Impedance slowing frequencies down" (16:15)? I am somewhat puzzled by this phrase. What exactly does that mean?
@bluejeanscable721410 ай бұрын
It might be more accurate to say that velocity and impedance are interrelated, so that when impedance goes up velocity goes down. this happens across the audio spectrum, but the curve gets sharper in the low frequency end. That's about as good as I understand it, not being an electrical engineer.
@Random-kq4pz11 ай бұрын
I have found that Wireworld cables are high in capacitance. This can cause some amps to have problems.
@IliyaOsnovikov11 ай бұрын
What is considered to be a high capacitance for speaker cables?
@a3marketing99111 ай бұрын
Cables can and do have different sound signatures. It's not necessarily better, but different. It's much more than eye candy.

Please be careful with long speaker cable runs the MBL Xtreme mentioned in this video with the 60ft run has distortion at much lower volume than the MBL xtreme system at our store. I would definitely try to stay away from long speaker cable runs. At lower volumes speakers work well

For anyone wondering why a cable matters in audio. The electrons are one of the smallest building blocks of our universe. How small an electron is? It's like 1/100,000 of an atom or smaller. An electron is so small when an electron travels through a wire - to the electron it's moving in a vast empty space. Because from the perspective of an electron, even an atom is a vast empty space. So, what matter is the electro magnetic field in that space. Like a comet travels in the space is affected by the gravitational fields of other planets, an electron is basically traveling in an empty space and is affected by the electro magnetic fields of other atoms. That's why the grain structure of a wire or whether the wires are twisted together or not - they all matters. Everything in our universe has an electro magnetic field because an atom is kept together by an electro magnetic field. Therefore, every meta physical things in the universe have and are affected by the electro magnetic fields. An electron travels through a solid wire. But, to an electron - it's travelling vast empty space filled with electro magnetic fields from trillion atoms - just like a spaceship traveling in the space filled with gravitational fields from trillion stars.

And…they don’t travel either, they simply exchange energy like the balls on a pendulum collide energy is transferred. Your explanation is the first attempt I’ve seen to bring these ideas to the masses recently so well done.

This might be a good spot to bring in actual measurements of electron flow through wire that can help explain the differences in wires that so far have just been claims. Actual measurable causation. Not sure why it matters... It would be the same price or more. You actually heard Jeff say in the zoom that he was surprised at how low the cost the one dealer set. Dealers like myself and the one mentioned in the video can tailor the aesthetics, and BJC does lots of OEM work for others already. In fact, it's likely easier to get a discount from a dealer where you can package buy a system...or.. In my case, members of my channel get it for less than MSRP.
@Nonsense6236511 ай бұрын
John, Why Not? Have you had some very negative experiences with High End Audio Dealers? Besides Jason is a really good guy! He’s just trying to find solutions for people and help people!
@AudiophileJunkie11 ай бұрын
You're making a lot of assumptions and overreacting to one speaker cable. As he mentioned in the video, he was surprised how low the other dealer set the retail cost. We're not even talking mega dollars with these cables so sweating this to the extent you're doing is pretty odd compared to everything else in the hobby.
