Learned something new ! Just added a Music Fidelity dac to my set up!

Before we can consider the quality of mastering, we have to first determine whether the music itself resonates with us. Unless of course, it is possession itself that dominates. In which case, the music itself is not the primary consideration. For those for whom the music is the primary consideration, streaming provides an inexpensive means of determining whether we like the music enough to look for a superb recording.

You are so right. I have thought about the same issue for years and now I am resigned to accept ADC and DAC. I would like to have Wilkinson on every recording but, to compensate, I think the latest Dirac and DEQX DSP technology gives you much more than ever before, so no regrets.

Thanks Anthony for your thoughts , I ordered the Schumann as it has fantasiestucke on it I have an old pressing with Rubinstein which is pretty beat up, so thought this would be a change up as I love that music very much ❤

The Upper Macadamia Circle approves these albums 😁. Nice mix Anthony. Brendon was great on the show. I have the TRPTYK vinyl's in a shopping cart ready to go for June's music budget.

I should mention they are a very reasonable price at the moment !

@@Andrew_from_Oz_Vinyl_Landscape Saw that, so much music. However, I'm on my own so there is a fiscal responsibility I have to stick too, unfortunately 😆

I love your videos and this is a particularly fantastic topic. I am a working musician (tuba) and also have an OL tonearm on my main table 😊. Cheers.

Fabulous. Thank you. Where are you playing? Studies? Cheers

I’m a member of the River City Brass and am blessed to still have the opportunity to play with most orchestras in Western PA, and WV. I’m ESM ‘99 and Maryland ‘02. I’m probably the only tuba player who has ever studied with Arnold Steinhart and Michael Tree (My brass quintet was in residence at Maryland when Guarneri were teaching there, and they let us participate in their chamber music program. We were able to work with them on a regular basis for two years.)!

how would you compare the esoteric vinyl against their own SACD releases? While I have gotten back into vinyl (for jazz mostly), I have been very resistant to embrace vinyl for classical if there is a SACD release.
@AudiophiliaChannel7 ай бұрын
Great question. Vinyl bias, here, but I love both for what they bring each format. However, the four vinyl reissues are magnificent and I prefer them to the SACDs.

Thanks for the great presentation and last night's livestream. I am going to order some records from TRPTYK. How much postage do you have to pay?. I live in Toronto.

Thank you for the kind words. TRPTK postage, no idea? Don’t they have a calculator on their site?

What about the digital delay in actual cutting heads lathes?
@AudiophiliaChannel7 ай бұрын
Don’t know much about that, or digital delay lines, or many other variables in the digital domain. I’m listening for musical results. And these examples are superb, all accomplished by the skill of top mastering engineers.
@Domonkos.Siegfried7 ай бұрын
What about it? That simply makes a digital pressing, even if the lacquer/DMM plate was cut from an analogue master. That's a fact, often overlooked. But today, the few "major" cutting engineers (those mandated by the audiophile labels) who are prestigious enough to be given original analogue master reels all have a preview head installed on their playback deck. That ensures an "analogue delay". So the signal that goes through their cutting amplifiers to their cutting head is not converted to digital.

Hello, I'm new here Thanks for your video. I must say I was surprised (shocked?) when you mentioned Animals. The recording is great, I love the SACD but the vinyl.... I had to exchange it 4 times, there was so much distortion (especially side 2), the last one I got was not great but a tiny bit better so since anyway it was to complete the collection I figure I settle with that one. I'm curious, is it because yours is a Canadian pressing? Or because mine was the box set? Makes me wonder Mine was pressed in Europe I think Especially since my system is far from yours in terms of quality of reproduction so if it sounds bad on mine it should sound horrible on yours.. I'm intrigued.

Welcome, Bruno. Not sure where mine was pressed, but it’s pristine. All the very best…

Digital recordings can be good on vinyl - try the early Decca digital recordings by Dorati and Dutoit as well as Chandos Ulster orchestra recordings. However the LP sides are often too long for the best recording quality. In the early 1980s there was a naive view that digital was good and better than analogue and lots of poor quality digital recordings were made as well as poor quality digital transfers of analogue recordings. The limitations of CDs did not help the image of digital.
@russputin62943 ай бұрын
Speaking as an analogue supporter, and a critic of some aspects of digital reproduction, unfortunately logic dictates that once any master, be it analogue or digital file has been produced it can only be degraded from that point onwards. Cold, hard fact of life I'm afraid. One may prefer the reproduction via one's vinyl system, and well and good to you, but it's an artifact of added or missing information. Ditto with an analogue master tape; any playback system, starting with the mastering playback tape recorded, can only degrade the information contained in the tape; distortions. noise and speed inconsistencies (wow and flutter). It's a sorry state of affairs when we can, and often do, prefer the sound produced by dragging an archaic rock around a piece of plastic to the latest technology. As John Lennon once said: "How can we move forward when we don't know which way we're facing?"

the mastering on blue raincoat may be good but the music sucks imho dude. what's the point?
@AudiophiliaChannel7 ай бұрын
The point is everyone has different tastes, dude. And the mastering is beyond “good”.

Definitely a matter of opinion. Side one is one of the finest collection of songs ever assembled imo.
