I have a very surprisingly romantic attachment to Roland TR-626. Its very dry 8-bit sound becomes alive with experimentation. It's inspired a lot of works with layers of percussion and we went to the 626 with a band I was in from 2016-2017. Three decades later the 626 can make musical romance definitely with the umlaut accents. Thank you for highlighting how creative the 626 can be used in this video. All of the jams really hit hard.
@KennethDonnellyStargazer212 жыл бұрын

Had one, and the internal mixer of the 707 was really missed, especially for muting. It’s pros were the tuning, and per instrument accent which was amazing for techno with the toms and hats. If I find one again for a good price, I might hop on it, because it was inspiring to use, and it’s relatively compact to its brethren. Looks like the pros outweigh the cons! Great video as always! Brilliant video. In the 80's my first drum machine was the TR-505 then I upgraded to the TR-626. Yes I was in a goth band. I still have a fully working TR-626 and have acquired a 2nd one also in full working order both with original boxes and instruction manuals. Only today I synced up old 16 track reel tape recordings transferred to Cubase Pro 12 with a SMPTE time code stripe and fed it through a XR300 SMPTE Synchroniser and synced up my Roland TR-626 and W-30 Workstation. The 1980's meets the 2020's. Magical day. Now where did I put that black eyeliner pencil?

It was my second drum machine when it came out, and I had two of these. Your review is again spot on, as always. The sync tape feature was great to virtually add anything / anyone to rehearsal or live performances, as putting extra drums, strings, backing vocals, synths, bass, 2nd/3rd guitar or even samples, it allowed to use an audio mix on one output, unless having a multi-tracks tape/reel, that sync'd the 626 on the other/different output just like any other external clock; Great also to speed up or down a tempo at some point in a song. One more cool feature is its ability to play blocks of patterns. [edit] I've used it as a basic sequencer too.

Having the 727 kit onboard was a big bonus at the time, but it still has that thin kick from the 707 to deal with. I actually used a 626 a few times in a shiny Atari midi studio, but doubled the kick and clap with beefier sampled options from a Sequential Tom. The 626, to my mangled ears, was the best of the rudimentary Latin Percussion drumboxes of that era. It sounds much better with some fx to thicken up the sounds, which are a bit (very) dry and crispy when naked. It sounds fine through a 12bit reverb to give it some proper 80s vast room depth.

I've liked every episode but haven't commented for a while. This time though I have to say "Synthesizer-Liebe - Böses Getriebe" made me lol and I hope this becomes a meme. You deserve every single of your views and more.

The 626 is very special to me and I barely even use the sounds. It syncs with the rest of my midi capable gear which then keeps my juno six Arp in sync via trigger. Another neat trick is that the trigger is tied to the rim shot, so you can sort of program arpegiator patterns on the Juno.
