I like Jimmy Johnson but that team got the biggest boost from the Herschel Walker trade. Also, Jimmy won zero Super Bowls after leaving. Jimmy is good but he took over the Hurricanes after Schnellenberger got them their first national title. Easier to build off of that. Had a huge trade boost at Dallas and did nothing at the Miami Dolphins. Maybe they needed each other.

@@douglasdixon524Jimmy was 100% responsible for that Walker trade, and the subsequent draft picks that built the team. I’ll Give Jerry credit for hiring Jimmy and going along with his decisions for the years he did but that’s as far as I’ll go. Also Jimmy only coached in Miami for 3 more years, Jerry’s been a GM for decades and has run through like 6 other coaches in that time. Jerry is a parasite.

Jerry Jones purchased the Dallas Cowboys in 1989 for 150 million when they were losing money and had empty seats. The Cowboys as of today are worth 10 Billion making them the most valuable sports franchise in the world. At the end of the day Jerry Jones built the best economic machine in sports. Despite not making a Super Bowl in 30 years he’s been a massive success overall as the owner. When it comes to sponsorships, premium seating, merchandise, stadium (Jerry’s world) fan experience and revenue he checks all the boxes.

It was '92 but from 92-95 they were elite. The defensive line they had especially from 92-93 was tremendous. Such a deep rotation. Tolbert, Casillas, Russel Maryland and Haley were the starters. The second unit was no joke. It consisted of Jim Jeffcoat, Jimmie Jones, Chad Hennings and Leon Lett. People remember Lett for 2 big gaffs, but he was a hell of a player. LB's were fast and physical and the dbs were solid as well. So solid in fact that Darren Woodson didn't really crack the starting lineup much until '94. What an awesome team they were.

Jerry wouldn’t have never thought about trading Hershel for all those draft picks if it wasn’t for Jimmy. So yea everyone from the espn analysis journalists and even fans were going to give Jimmy the credit for assembling this team. You never hear The Hunt family, The Rooney family or any other owner acting like Jerry has been. Geez Jerry you own the team you hired Jimmy you had to approve of the trade and agree with the players that he drafted,traded or signed so yeah you was getting the credit but not like a coach or a player does. Jerry firing Jimmy prevented this team from possibly becoming like the patriots before the patriots 🤷🏻‍♂️

Jimmy made all the moves, made all the picks, coached all the players. The two championships are his, his coaches and the players. Jerry Jones was and is a rich guy who picked the right coach. When I was a kid in the 70’s and 80’s, people forgot that Clint Mercheson owned the Dallas Cowboys. He let Tex Schramm run the team, Tom Landry coach the team and Gil Brandt run scouting. All he had to do was sit back and enjoy the winning. Sadly Jerry Jones is the polar opposite. His ego won’t allow him to hire competent people to run the team or hire a real head coach who isn’t a boot licking yes man.

After the second Super Bowl victory, Johnson, and a number of other people were sitting around a table partying and Jerry Jones came up and tried bud in and the people at the table, pretty well ignored Jerry, and made him feel slighted, and so he went to the bar and started drinking, and a reporter was in there, and this was the point where he told the reporter that he was thinking of changing coaches and it escalated from thereafter it got out into the media and when they both got back in Dallas, Jimmy was furious and had a meeting with Jerry and they cemented the resignation

As a non expert football owner. You defer to the expert football coach and let him do his thing. The whole fault for that situation going left, was Jerry Jones. Troy Aikman said the absolute truth. But it is well known. And has been for 3 decades.

Jimmy built the team, and Jerry wanted all the credit. Jerry wanted more attention and more control, and the cowboys have been average ever since. Aikman was lucky to be on that team, he was an average qb and never would've won anything without those other guys.

They way Jerry Jones unceremoniously fired Tom Landry pissed off alot of people. Not saying he shouldn't have just that he could have done it with a lot more class. Firing Jimmy is unforgiveable and I haven't watched a Cowboys game since.

And the main reason was Jerry Jones' stupidity (and the Vikings). Add to that; the Cowboys were so good for so long was the Herschel Walker trade which many say Jimmy Johnson made happen. They built a team that everyone wanted to play for with the players they received via draft picks by giving up Walker. The rest was gravy. Herschel was a really good player. But no front office can give up an entire Pro Bowl team for him and still win. And the Vikings didn't!

It is simple...nothing more needs to be highlighted. Jerry Jones REFUSED to honor Jimmy in their "circle". The NFL recognized how great of a Coach he was enough to put him in the HoF. Only then...did Jerry pretend to give credit. It killed him. And now...all in baby...to show who runs the team.

Considering they came back and won a third SB after missing the year before, one would have to seriously think that not only could they have won 3 in a row, it could have been 4. Nobody will ever know of course because injuries sure do happen in football, as just one reason why they might not have, but it could be argued that they sure could have.

@@_DB.COOPER Barry won with a team built by Jimmy. The pieces were already in place. Jimmy and Jerry had to rebuild from practically nothing because the team had declined so much. That's no disrespect to Barry, or even Tom Landry who was still coach when the Cowboys were sliding into third tier. It's just fact.

@@oldgoat142 you should really study the Cowboys more. Barry won a Super Bowl, Jimmy wasn’t there. Barry inherited some players just like EVERY new coach in NFL History does. I suppose you’re going to tell me he coached them the same and ran the same plays as Jimmy also. Jimmy inherited Hall of Famer Dan Marino, how did that turn out?
@oldgoat142
@oldgoat142 9 ай бұрын
@@_DB.COOPER Marino's best years were behind him. He went to the super bowl twice with Shula, who had been coaching since the mid-60s, but they couldn't finish the job. That kind of thing happens. Not even close to being the same situation. Good try though. Just like every coach, sooner or later the game passes you by, or you simply get burned out. You want cowboy history? Okay. Barry managed to piss off A LOT of players, especially key players like Aikman, Smith, and others. Go back and watch some of their old interviews. Jerry and Barry banged heads just like Jerry did with Jimmy. Colossal egos do that. The difference is they couldn't put aside those egos enough to keep the dynasty going. Ditka and Ryan in Chicago should've had a helluva run. They didn't because they couldn't co-exist. Let's talk a little more history. How long did Barry last? That's what I thought.

And now the Cowboys live with The Curse of the Jimmy. Much like Boston lived all those years under The Curse of the Bambino. If there is a parallel then Dallas can expect it's next Super Bowl win around 2082. My grandchildren will probably live to see it. There is one thing. The Cowboys are the only team in the history of the NFL to win a Super Bowl (1996) without the benefit of a head coach. Jones was the author of amazing success for a few years and then the author of dismal mediocrity for a generation. Whatever he is or isn't he is an American original. Despite the fact that his football team hasn't won a second round playoff game in almost 28 years his Dallas Cowboys is the most valuable sports franchise on Earth and by a lot.

It's Jerry Jones fault. He is single handly the worst thing the cowboys have. His overwhelming desire to be more than a rich dude and interject himself into daily and game decisions has been the best weapon against the cowboys. The Achilles heel, he has had great coaches and staff and fucks it up trying to be the leader and final say.

Jerry couldn't handle the fact that Jimmy got all the credit for their success, in his mind he was living in Jimmy's shadow and that will eat up a narcissist like Jerry. And now look at Jerry, 30 years later and he's still getting in the way of the team's success.

As far as Troy goes, it really speaks-to the trickiness of a championship. How everything has to fall the right way: Injuries at a minimum (esp season ending), everyone sacrificing (Troy coulda broken every QB records that exists if it was just about Troy). Team before everything. Same with Tom Coughlin's 2008 and 2012 spectacular NYG championships - everyone working together. That's why I get this long stretch by the NYG (some teams have never won it all). I said back then if we never win another Super Bowl - I'll live in happiness remembering THESE two most recent NYG rings. And the next one will be here soon enough, and probably one right after that.

Did you happen to catch the Family Feud episode where Joe was on with his family? it is so classic JB that you probably won't believe this when I tell it and I won't blame you. He's on there with family, mostly if not all females, I think it was all females and him. Now as we all know he has all the time in front of the camera to do whatever. His female family, obviously do not; so it comes down to they need an answer where the whole family talks it over and then their leader, Joe, gives the answer. They come up with a winning answer and all Joe has to do is hand it over. Bang! They win! The girls look smart, get their moment in the sun. NOPE! Joe vetoes the winning answer and supplies his own, cause you know, Joe knows better than anybody else. Now he could have just given over their answer, right or wrong, let them have their moment. NOPE! Lol, Joe gives his own answer which is wrong! But wait my friend: this is Joe we're talking about. Its not over. He doubles down and does the same thing again and again, is wrong! And their answer is right. *the last part I think is right, but maybe I just remember it that way, I am sure others will confirm or deny but I think he did it twice. :)

The hubris and arrogance of Jerry Jones has been costing the Cowboys for 3 decades now. Jimmy was the last coach to stand up to Jerry and exert some real power. Parcells wasn’t on the same level. Instead, a country club atmosphere pervades that whole team, thanks to Jerry. It’s a circus.
