For the school I work as a music teacher (and making children choir) these are very good, and make's me more comparable to other gimnasium/high school music teacher 'cause, for me, it's not enough (when you have a children choir) just sing with voice. Question, if you record a full band this way with the sub 1-2 would you have to have just one track for everything or is there a way to record individual tracks to be able to mix and master later? Sorry if this doesn’t make sense beginner here
@AudioUniversity4 ай бұрын
To get a “multitrack” (where every track is separate), I would need an audio interface capable of that. There are some mixers that do this (like the TASCAM Model 12) and many stand-alone interfaces (like the Focusrite 18i20).

For multi-channel recording on this particular mixer, you can use a TS connector plugged halfway into an insert connector to get the audio for just that channel. Just make sure nobody mistakenly shoves it in the rest of the way or else your sound won't go anywhere else!

I have quite a weird mixer. It has two channels, that can be each assigned as either phono or line. Then it has a cross fader right at the bottom and even a DJ microphone input? I has been a lot of fun playing around with it. I even learned how to connect a single source to the two inputs such that the cross fader functions as a balance control Oh I totally forgot: it has no output level control. You set the output level with the two linear level sliders.
@BertGrink5 ай бұрын
That sounds like a dedicated DJ mixer; with those you typically have two turntables - either old-school vinyl players, or modern digital ones, but the principle is the same - and when you play your records/songs, you use the crossfader to smoothly blend from one song as it nears the end to the next one that you have cued in while the first song is playing. The microphone input is for announcing the title/artist of the songs as you play them, or for other messages that may be appropriate. I hope this helps.
@andreash39065 ай бұрын
While you covered inserts briefly, could you further explain on how to use inserts to feed a channel back into the next one (and do this possibly even several times) to use gain to distort a sound? The same way they created those mad distorted 909 gabber kicks in the 90's.

I use a Behringer Xenyx 802 mixer which has much more basic features than that Mackie but the video was still quite informative. I use effects pedals connected via the send/return inputs on the mixer. I notice that when I use an effect in a channel, if I pan the signal extreme left or right, the effect itself is still heard in both channels, which sounds pretty cool.

Even though I don't have much use for it, I'm enjoying learning about production analogue equipment from this channel! I've always found this stuff interesting. When I was in school, we had lots of mixer boards like this (but older and cheaper). Some in the music/theater building, and even one to control the gym audio system. The one for the theater was the most advanced by far. There was a booth in the back of the building that had all the audio equipment, as well as the controls for the stage lighting. There was a massive equipment stack in the corner, full of gear I couldn't even begin to identify! I was once in charge of this booth for a theater production. I figured out the mic levels and the lighting controls (I made a script for where each slider needed to be at each scene), but everything else was a mystery. I was told just to ignore the equipment rack, because there was only one person who knew how to use it! Unfortunately the building was left unlocked one night, and someone stole a lot of the equipment.

Thanks for sharing ... Here is my situation: I want to connect my Harbinger LvL 12 Channel unpowered mixer MAIN OUT, to a pair of Alto Professional TX310 350W 10-inch Powered Speaker INPUT. I'm using a pair of 1/4" to XLR cables but I'm getting a heavy buzzing sound on the speakers. If I use the CTRL RM OUT, to the Alto powered speakers INPUT, I'm still getting a heavy buzzing sound on the speakers. Without any input signal on the mixer and at 0db, I'm still getting a hum However, if I use my iPhone and connect it directly to the speaker there is no hum also if I connect a CD player directly to the speaker there is no hum. I also noticed that from the Harbinger mixer "phone" (headphone jack) there is no hum.. and if I bypass the harbinger mixer and go directly from my Pioneer/Serato Mixing board output to the speaker .. no hum.. From the speaker's documentation - The speakers are expecting a "Line Level" Signal .. it seems like the Harbinger mixer "MAIN OUT" or CTRL RM OUT, it's not delivering a "line level" signal.. The hum sounds like an old guitar tube amp with defective capacitors. Is there any diagnostic checks for the Harbinger Mixer? Any suggestions to prevent the loud buzzing sound on the speakers?

Excellent tutorial, however the one reason I watched is I want to use the USB for recording to my DAW, using the control room outputs. I have just bought a new profx12V3 of this mixer, and have struggled with the routing of this feature. Do I need to use only the left and right button, or also 1 and 2. Also disappointing that I’ll need XLR to TSR adapters for my studio monitor cables. I have 1 week left before I must return it to the music store. I’d then have to go back to my even older profx12V1, which is really easy to use but is less future proof.

I've got a question about the Musysic 6 Channel stereo mixer. The main issue I'm getting is only 1 channel out of an ipod hooked up through an Aux cable to this mixer. The mixer itself - I've got 2 stereo speakers and 2 large PA's (4 cables total) hooked up to the two outputs in the back (I bought a splitter so all 4 speakers can put out sound). The Aux option has 1 'Send' and 1 'Receive'. Initially I had the cable plugged only into the Receive option because the send does not put out any sound. This is when I discovered only 1 channel is playing from the songs I'm choosing. So I bought another splitter to plug into both Send and Receive, but I'm still getting only 1 channel output. When I play the ipod through another stereo, both channels come out, but when I plug back into the mixer I get only 1. Do you have any insights as to where I'm not connecting properly? Or perhaps it's just the mixer itself? Thanks!

So I just bought this exact mixer and I've been trying to find a straight answer about setting up two monitor sends. You're the first video to even mention it! Thank you. Just have a question though, if I use the FX Send as a second monitor channel, does that cancel out all effects being used? Since it's using the FX knobs for volume? Or did I misinterpret that. Basically I just want to know how to have two monitors on stage with this mixer AND if at all possible, two mixes, but I'd settle for just being able to use two monitors. Wish they'd label these a little better lol. My band mate uses a QSC touchmix 16 and the aux sends are clearly labeled. I got this to use for the trio but so far it's been a bit of a hassle.

@boutique535 ай бұрын
Thank you! This video was extremely helpful! I was struggling with getting my band's mix right (I am by no means a sound man, but since I own the PA equipment, I inherited the job). Interestingly, I used to use a Mackie ProFX12v3 mixer, but upgraded to a Yamaha DM3 digital board because I needed more inputs. BIG difference in the way they operate, but the basic principles are the same. Anyway, our powered speakers are two LD Systems Maui 28 column arrays along with two QSC CP-8's. I used to set everyone's gain, set the speakers to about 75%, set the master to somewhere around -10 dB, then and adjust everyone's sliders to get the volume we wanted. This sort of worked, but the sound was less desirable than I had hoped for. After watching your video, I tried setting the master and individual sliders to unity, then bringing up the speakers until the volume was right as you recommended. Sounds much better now, especially the electric guitar (running through a Fender Tonemaster Pro). You are a true expert in audio engineering and I appreciate the help you've given me and my band! 🙂

Any chance of a video to set up a soundboard mixer for a small church. No instruments just mics?

Thank you for this video. What ever they are paying you it is not enough! Your clear explanation of this unit should help them sell a lot of these. I have a tascam model 12 that is an awful lot like this and have watched a bunch of videos on its use. Your explanation was perfect and will help me. Might have chosen the mackie if I had seen this first.

Great explanation! As much as I have learned about mixers in the last year or so (primarily via Audio U) I learned some new things in this video. Thanks!
