I think auditing is hard. However, understanding the concepts is key and whichever method works for you, ultimately determines success. For example, I make sure I understand the concepts, answer the questions and when I get a question wrong, I assess what I didn't understand. Relying on rote memory will not help you in auditing or any academic pursuit.
