About a month ago I was put on Avail for a National commercial. I self submitted a tape...then got called back for a Zoom audition. There were at least 5 people in on that Zoom audition in two or three places (only one person on their team was from my city).I was personable and funny (had the whole Zoom casting laughing) and hit what I considered all the right notes in my reading.I got put on avail (yay Team Me)for one week. Long story short ,I didn't get the part, but I felt great that I had even gotten that far along in the audition process (especially over Zoom). Also maybe ...just maybe I left an impression on people who might be in the position to consider me for a future casting.That's the BUSINESS.. After all there were possibily hundreds of guys who never even got a call back and you've got to be grateful for that if nothing else.

🔥🔥🔥Wow thank you for this insight! I've been placed on a first for 3 studio pilots in the last 4 months alone just to be released. I ended up booking 2 films instead but such a roller coaster emotionally. Of course nothing to do but let it go and be ready for the next opportunity! Happy holidays to you AJB!

While I know you didn't sign up for a roller coaster ride, remember that millions of people go on roller coasters voluntarily all the time for the thrill and the fun of it. What if you could shift your POV to enjoy the thrill of the ride? #foodforthought

Thank you so much for being human. Some of these casting directors come across as ruthless and uncaring … it’s a love hate relationship because in some situations they push you all the way to provider sessions but then out if I where they call and say you didn’t make the role with no feedback. I never understand that. Is there a reason they won’t give feedback after getting so far into the process?

That’s for actors that got put on avail.. what about actors like me who hasn’t booked a single job in the last two years. Even when I have put out some of my best auditions… and I hear nothing.. no feedback.. no pin/avail.. nothing. That really makes it hard psychologically. What am I doing wrong then if I give it my all and I’m still not good enough.

as always you are absolutely correct 💯 also The sad truth is it has pretty much nothing to do with talent or the lack of there is a level of mediocrity that this industry settles for nowadays and there are so many ridiculous boxes they have to check gender and ethnic quotas and "representation" come into play and . Many times they have no idea what their looking for. it could also be a case where the Director liked you but the producer doesn't or vice versa. The point is and I'm sure Amy agrees there are all kinds of reasons why a production would ultimately "go another way" and there are just waaay too many to mention in a short video and even more nobody wants to admit let alone talk about but the fact is it has almost nothing to do with your ability , as long as you have a good audio setup, proper lighting and they can hear you and see you and you follow the instructions the best thing for you to do is to send in the tape and forget about it move on with your life you know you did everything you could it's out of your hands after that.

I was recently sent to the studio for approval for a really nice, fun bit-part in a major network series and I've watched this tape on repeat for the last several days. Your words have been very supportive and comforting, so thank you!I've also been refreshing my email every 5 minutes it seems just waiting to get word from my agent. It's only been a day or two, but I'm starting to get scared since I haven't heard back. In your experience, is it rare that the network blocks a casting decision? What are the chances I won't get it? 😕 Love your vids! Will keep watching, as always, with an open heart and mind!

I've just got put on a Watch & Advise for a network show. Is that pretty much the same as being pinned? I'd appreciate the input. Thank you!

I’ve got an avail check about a month ago for a pilot. Didn’t hear anything until yesterday asking is I was still fully available? The project doesn’t start until early/mid June. Any advice of where my tape might be haha?

Does studio approval come per project or are some people approved by all studios or is it a case by case basis depending on the project?
@TipsOnActing3 жыл бұрын
Per project.

Keep getting callbacks/director/producer sessions but not booking .. 😢 do you think there’s a specific reason why?

I did an Audition for a father who had just been told he had cancer by a doctor, I knew my performance of the character was good as I had been in this position when I was told I had cancer. I didn’t get booked but I got a text message to say that the Director loved my performance but they went with the other guy and I wondered if they went with the other guy why are they sending me this text, Amy Jo your explanation has satisfied my curiosity.
